    ATLANTA — A Black doctor is upset at a man who she says racially profiled her when he blocked her from entering the community that she has lived in for about eight years.

    A part of the nearly 30-minute exchange was captured on camera.

    A police report indicates that Nnenna Aguocha stated she was attempting to enter the Buckhead Townhome community after just coming off an overnight shift

    when another property owner stopped her at the gate entrance. She said he parked his car under the gate arm and refused to move forward to let her in, despite her repeated requests.

    “He got out of the car and threatened to call the police on me because I was trespassing,” she said in the video recording taken at the scene. “This is racial profiling at its finest.”

    They may not be torturing babies just to play symbolic politics with their base. And I use “they” to make the point that it is not at all clear who, if anybody, is driving their immigration policy. Trump really seems to me to be demented. Of course this doesn’t mean we don’t have to worry. He may be too impaired to be the Hitler in what is unfolding, but he could serve as the Hindenburg. The very absence of a firm hand at the top enables some group of junior courtiers (led by Stephen Miller?) to run things using Trump as their front man.

    The real issue for their party and their movement is what to do about the 11 million. That’s the demographic tide that faces them with the prospect of losing FL, TX, AZ, NV, and more, and with that loss, everything. The Ds get the trifecta, forever, if just TX and FL flip. Everything else is gravy and overkill.

    One thing this latest baby-torturing ploy has done for the “they” we’re talking about here, is that it has committed their party to getting rid of the 11 million as its only viable alternative. No more flirting with the idea their “moderates” have of reaching some sort of deal with the Ds for a pathway to citizenship that will de-blacken the reputation of their party enough to make them competitive again with Hispanic voters. “They” burned that bridge. No more effective moderation on this issue within their party, well, not unless the moderates break with “them” clearly and decisively. That’s not going to happen. Such moderates will assimilate, get primaried or self-deport from Congress. The one thing they won’t do is even try to wrest control of the party back from “them”.

      It was a wink at the 27%, to assure them that even though she was visiting the children for a photo op, it was just a con. She was letting them in on the joke.

They don’t have the personnel to cover down. And they can’t give more work to their existing indefinitefinite duration/indefinitefinite quantity (IDIQ) omnibus contractors because they don’t have the money to pay the new contracting fees. So something has to give.

    Yeah, where did the money for all this shyt come from? Point out the line in the budget where it was approved? Cause, if it had been in the budget before, don’t you think some budget nerd would have pointed it out?

    Anyone who works in government is going to be extremely pessimistic about this. This shit is seriously hard to do right, and even with years of planning is almost certainly going to be off a bit.

    I work with a generally well documented population. One that typically has a good identity trail. Understand that ‘identity’ is a much more ephemeral thing than people realize. Virtually every form of identity is merely a proxy for some prior form of identity. At the end of the day, your identity is almost entirely dependent on a single form filled out in the hospital where you were born, from which every other form of identity is derived. We might validate that somewhat via DNA tests against other people and their identity chain, but that’s it. And even in a setting where have great documentation and are dealing with a population of 10s of thousands of people, you have mix-ups of people with identical names, ambiguity in a person’s status, and the like. 3 times per year we take a definitive snapshot of the population and the first pass is about 99.9% correct, and the last 0.1% takes days and hundreds of man-hours to correct. And that’s in a system where employees are personally motivated to get this right, the population being counted is personally motivated to get this right, and everyone speaks the same language and is old and capable enough to speak on their own behalf. And what happens if our census misses somebody? Well, there’s a temporary financial inconvenience until the person points it out and we fix it. Nobody dies. Nobody vanishes down a human trafficking hole. Nobody has long term psychological problems.

    With 100% certainty, at least one child has already died as a result of DHSs inability to properly account for everyone. They’ll blame language, lack of identity documentation, and so on. But this is a situation where all of the incentives are aligned against success. You have employees that are highly motivated to cover up any problem. You have people being counted that cannot speak for themselves, and are in many cases motivated to not cooperate. Refugees are an administrative worst case scenario because by definition of the population, every thing that usually works in favor of success is lacking. And in this case, if you had an employee population that was highly motivated to get this right, you might stand a fighting chance, but nobody signs up to work as a border patrol officer with this goal in mind. The job is about keeping people out, not taking care of those that are in. Toss on top the politicization and inevitable ass-covering when this thing goes tits-up and I’m predicting at least hundreds of children will simply vanish, and more than that will never be reunited with parents because the government fucked up so badly and is unwilling to release a child to their rightful parents because some form doesn’t line up with some other form.

    From the viewpoint of a high-level administrator, you never, ever, ever agree to do a system like this because the likelihood of failure is so high, and the consequence of that failure is of such magnitude, that you just never go near it. From an administrative standpoint, by keeping children and parents together, you solve so much of the accounting problem because child and parent are mutually and actively invested in ensuring the accounting is right. If your worry is human trafficking, that too will be revealed in that interaction provided you keep them together. Hell, you can do a cheap and easy DNA test to help verify that the adult’s story checks out. Once you separate, there’s no fucking way you can tell who was and was not trafficked, and because of that, if trafficking is your real concern, there’s no way you can ever reunite the child with the parent, because any mechanism that you might have had to ensure that relationship is valid was lost in the separation process.

    If someone had come to me with this idea, with me being responsible for implementation, I would advise them to toss out any pretext that there would be a reunification process, and make clear from the outset that this is an orphanage project where reunification is a desirable exception rather than a realistic expectation and construct around that and see if the concept and motivation to pursue it still holds. If nobody did that then they are utterly incompetent and should be fired and go to jail. If they did that, and the policy was pursued anyway, than everyone in the chain should be fired and go to jail.

    A lot of these kids will never be reunited with their parents. I would be willing to bet that at least a few are either dead or missing with effectively no way to identify them. Some of the abuses elsewhere in the system are probably being documented now internally. My guess is that reality has started to work up the chain and they’re dealing with at least some level of administrative pushback from professional staff that don’t want to face criminal charges. Note that they aren’t ending the practice, just that they’re going to pause things while they find bigger prisons.

    The other possibility is that the pushback is jeopardizing other efforts that they care more about. Microsoft is starting the feel the heat for having ICE contracts, with employees furious. The airlines are ending their work with ICE. At some point less controversial federal programs are going to be affected, and the folks in charge of those efforts are going to be livid that ICE is fucking things up for everyone.

    GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Some of the children who have been separated from the parents at the U.S.-Mexico border are being cared for in Michigan.

    Children of these unauthorized immigrants, caught up in a zero-tolerance policy directed by President Trump’s administration, cannot be housed with their parents in adult detention centers.

    They’re transferred to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to be placed in foster care, with U.S. relatives or in juvenile facilities, including placement in Michigan.

    The Detroit Free Press reported the average age of these children is 8. Michigan foster-care agencies are having difficulty handling the increasing number of children who arrive in Michigan at nighttime, the newspaper reported.

    Arbulu said in his statement the department has received reports that some displaced children arriving in Michigan are infants as young as 3 months old and “completely unable to advocate for themselves.”

    “We have received reports and are very concerned that the children arriving here are much younger than those who have been transported here in the past,” Arbulu said in the statement. “While we commend the work of resettlement agencies in Michigan attempting to serve these children with dignity and compassion, nothing can replace the love, sense of security and care of a parent.”

    He went on to say the only reason he knew about the girls is because it was leaked to him.
