What is the Trump regime planning on doing with those kids? Selling them for adoption, human trafficking? There is some wicked EVIL going on. Some folks need to be jailed over this.

It’s monstrous what Trump, Jeff Sessions, and Kristjen Nielsen have done to innocent children. Abusing little kids just because they can & because they’re little Brown children. Racist mofos! Take’em to the ICJ for human rights abuse. Where are our leaders? Somebody stop this monster from hell!

    According to RadarOnline.com, the country star’s 22-year-old daughter has landed herself an eight-year prison sentence at West Tennessee State Penitentiary after leaving a drug recovery program last year and violating her probation.

    The troubled superstar’s child has reportedly been in and out of prison in both Tennessee and Alabama for drug-related charges over the past two years.

    Washington (CNN) — Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill suffered a broken rib after choking at a Senate lunch Thursday, where her Senate colleague Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, performed the Heimlich maneuver to save her.

    The story was first reported by The Washington Post.

    “She started choking. People cough, you think, well. And then started getting real red. ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,’ ” Manchin said Monday. “I was big enough and tall enough to get some leverage on her and pick her up off her feet.     Elections have consequences

    Back in the waning days of the 2016 election, when everything hung in the balance, and Bernie-or-Busters / Jill-not-Hills were having their temper tantrums, the rest of us were reminding them about the courts, Supreme and otherwise. Almost to a jack man of them they said “Don’t threaten us with the courts!” (Also, more than a few were under the impression that we could just vote out judges we didn’t like. Yes, they’re morons.)

    Well, that attitude has born fruit today.

    Your vote is not just your vote. It impacts your family, your friends, your neighbors, the community. When you vote out of pique, or huffily insist that both parties are the same, this is what we get: a Supreme Court which is the most conservative in decades, issuing rulings which will make progress all that much more difficult. But, you know, you got to stamp your feet and hold on to your purity.

    The left refuseniks and the right MAGA voters are of a pair. They don’t look beyond their own immediate needs. They don’t think about the future, or about how their actions affect others. They are islands unto themselves. And if the world burns, a glorious new one will arise in its place. Or they’re willing to take that gamble, at any rate.

    All of you who didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton: This court’s on you. Own it. We’ll be living with it for years.

    Fintan O’Toole: Trial runs for fascism are in full flow

    To grasp what is going on in the world right now, we need to reflect on two things. One is that we are in a phase of trial runs. The other is that what is being trialled is fascism – a word that should be used carefully but not shirked when it is so clearly on the horizon. Forget “post-fascist” – what we are living with is pre-fascism.

    It is easy to dismiss Donald Trump as an ignoramus, not least because he is. But he has an acute understanding of one thing: test marketing. He created himself in the gossip pages of the New York tabloids, where celebrity is manufactured by planting outrageous stories that you can later confirm or deny depending on how they go down. And he recreated himself in reality TV where the storylines can be adjusted according to the ratings. Put something out there, pull it back, adjust, go again.

    Fascism doesn’t arise suddenly in an existing democracy. It is not easy to get people to give up their ideas of freedom and civility. You have to do trial runs that, if they are done well, serve two purposes. They get people used to something they may initially recoil from; and they allow you to refine and calibrate. This is what is happening now and we would be fools not to see it.

    One of the basic tools of fascism is the rigging of elections – we’ve seen that trialled in the election of Trump, in the Brexit referendum and (less successfully) in the French presidential elections. Another is the generation of tribal identities, the division of society into mutually exclusive polarities. Fascism does not need a majority – it typically comes to power with about 40 per cent support and then uses control and intimidation to consolidate that power. So it doesn’t matter if most people hate you, as long as your 40 per cent is fanatically committed. That’s been tested out too. And fascism of course needs a propaganda machine so effective that it creates for its followers a universe of “alternative facts” impervious to unwanted realities. Again, the testing for this is very far advanced.

    But when you’ve done all this, there is a crucial next step, usually the trickiest of all. You have to undermine moral boundaries, inure people to the acceptance of acts of extreme cruelty. Like hounds, people have to be blooded. They have to be given the taste for savagery. Fascism does this by building up the sense of threat from a despised out-group. This allows the members of that group to be dehumanised. Once that has been achieved, you can gradually up the ante, working through the stages from breaking windows to extermination.

    It is this next step that is being test-marketed now. It is being done in Italy by the far-right leader and minister for the interior Matteo Salvini. How would it go down if we turn away boatloads of refugees? Let’s do a screening of the rough-cut of registering all the Roma and see what buttons the audience will press. And it has been trialled by Trump: let’s see how my fans feel about crying babies in cages. I wonder how it will go down with Rupert Murdoch.

    To see, as most commentary has done, the deliberate traumatisation of migrant children as a “mistake” by Trump is culpable naivety. It is a trial run – and the trial has been a huge success. Trump’s claim last week that immigrants “infest” the US is a test-marketing of whether his fans are ready for the next step-up in language, which is of course “vermin”. And the generation of images of toddlers being dragged from their parents is a test of whether those words can be turned into sounds and pictures. It was always an experiment – it ended (but only in part) because the results were in.

    And the results are quite satisfactory. There is good news on two fronts. First, Rupert Murdoch is happy with it – his Fox News mouthpieces outdid themselves in barbaric crassness: making animal noises at the mention of a Down syndrome child, describing crying children as actors. They went the whole swinish hog: even the brown babies are liars. Those sobs of anguish are typical of the manipulative behaviour of the strangers coming to infest us – should we not fear a race whose very infants can be so devious? Second, the hardcore fans loved it: 58 per cent of Republicans are in favour of this brutality. Trump’s overall approval ratings are up to 42.5 per cent.

    This is greatly encouraging for the pre-fascist agenda. The blooding process has begun within the democratic world. The muscles that the propaganda machines need for defending the indefensible are being toned up. Millions and millions of Europeans and Americans are learning to think the unthinkable. So what if those black people drown in the sea? So what if those brown toddlers are scarred for life? They have already, in their minds, crossed the boundaries of morality. They are, like Macbeth, “yet but young in deed”. But the tests will be refined, the results analysed, the methods perfected, the messages sharpened. And then the deeds can follow.

    Quickie: In 2010, Republicans Won Because of Incivility and Anger

    Let me take you back, way, way back, all the way to the ancient age of 2009 and 2010. A black Muslim man was uppity enough be president. Evil Democrats had majorities in both the House and Senate. And a brave rebel named Mitch McConnell was willing to stop any legislation from ever being passed again. Simpler times, man, simpler times.

    A noble band of patriots called “the Tea Party” decided to take their country back or make it great again or something because the black Muslim and the evil Democrats had dared to give them health insurance. So they took their righteous anger to town hall meetings held by the Democrats and any Republicans who dared to want to work with the black Muslim, and they ranted and raged until they silenced anyone who wanted to talk about issues until many members of Congress decided to just avoid town halls with their constituents.

    And, of course, the media condemned the incivility, and Republicans lost because they couldn’t control their more radical voters.

    Oh, no, wait. The media, for the most part, wanted to understand the rage of the tri-corner hat-wearing yokels, and the 2010 blood red tide turned the Congress Republican. Yeah, that happened.

    Rage works. We’re angry because they want to take away health care, imprison children, and gut the government. Learn to ride the wave, Democrats, or you’re gonna just ebb and break before you ever reach shore

    Six years after a police officer mistook me for a criminal and shot to kill, it’s happened again, only a few miles from where I live.

    This time, the victim was 17-year-old Antwon Rose Jr. The police shot him in the back as he ran from a stopped car.

    There are no formal statistics of police brutality in the United States, but the organization Mapping Police Violence tracks reports of police shootings. This year, it found, 466 people have been shot dead by police. Last year, the number was 1,147.

    Six years ago, I was almost a devastating statistic.

    At the age of 19, I was on the way to my grandmother’s house when a police officer pulled me over. He told me that I had run a stop sign and at first, I believed that if I just explained that he was wrong and showed him all of my information, everything would be OK. My car was registered and I quickly produced my driver’s license. At worst, I thought, I would get a ticket that I could fight in court. I didn’t expect the officer to get so angry so quickly.

    For 20 minutes, I sat on a dark road as officers questioned and cursed at me. They thought I was a gang member. When they tried to pull me out of the car, I panicked. Before I knew it, my foot was on the gas pedal. That’s when Officer David Derbish jumped in the passenger seat and shot me five times in the chest. The wounds didn’t kill me, but they left me a paraplegic. I’ll spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair.

    Officer Derbish claimed during the trial that he thought I had a gun. When that proved to be wrong, he changed his story, stating that I dragged him with my vehicle. After that detail was also proved wrong, he hid behind the blue wall, trusting that his colleagues would have his back. They did. They falsified reports and lied under oath. In the end, the all-white jury said it couldn’t reach a verdict on Derbish’s culpability in my case.

    This year, the City of Pittsburgh settled my case for $5 million. People congratulate me on this as if it were a win.

    When it comes to protests, mean words, civil disobedience, boycotts, public shunning, we may disagree when one or other is wise or called for. But these are entirely legitimate tools of political action, civic action. Many calls for civility are simply calls for unilateral disarmament from those protesting injustices and abuses of power.

    One might further note that it is simply too comical to be lectured about social decorum by a party whose members shouted “You lie” at a President during a State of the Union address and made Donald Trump their party leader. But even that is really beside the point. What does matter is where we draw the lines of what’s legitimate and what’s not. Most of the civility talk isn’t about any real red line, any boundary that is critical to the kind of free society we want to preserve and build. It’s more a wet blanket meant to tsk tsk legitimate protest and legitimate resistance to corrupt government, misrule and injustice.
