The timing of the administration’s proposal to roll back fuel standards is downright villainous.

Look at the non-political news these days: Deadly wildfires burn out of control in parched California. Unusually heavy rains cause devastating floods in parts of Asia. A punishing heat wave kills scores in Japan, South Korea and normally temperate parts of Europe, pushing the mercury into the 90s in Scandinavia. Can anyone fail to see a pattern?
With increasing confidence — and growing alarm — some leading climate scientists attribute this summer’s bizarre weather to human-induced global warming. Meanwhile, the Trump administration wants to make it all worse.  This week we saw a juxtaposition of events that you couldn’t make up.     White Woman Snatches Protest Sign From Black Woman, Cries to Police When She Gets Punched in the Face

    A white woman found herself participating in the time-honored ritual known as the “catching of hands” when she decided to boldly go where few Beckysapiens have dared to go before by publicly disrespecting an angry black woman.

    It all began when a white woman, who closely resembles a gallon jug of whole milk, decided to wander into a Black Lives Matter demonstration as crowds gathered to protest the shooting of Thurman Blevins, a black man who was shot and killed while running away from police.

    The white woman tried to walk through the protesters because … well, that’s kinda what white people do. Genetic biologists have theorized that melanin deficiency also comes with a lack of the “step aside” gene common in most other human beings. But the Amber-American likely had no idea that this particular crowd was composed of people who had an abundance of the “not today” gene.

    So when the Dusty Rhodes-looking woman decided to snatch the sign of a random black woman protester, the obviously community-minded black woman decided to take the opportunity and address hunger in the white community by promptly delivering a two-piece fist sandwich directly to Sally Sign-Snatcher’s mouth.

    Woman Shot and Killed Abusive Husband In Driveway, Now Faces Murder Charges Even Though Alabama is a ‘Stand Your Ground’ State

    We all know who “stand your ground” laws protect, so perhaps it is not surprising that a 38-year-old black Selma, Ala., woman is behind bars and facing murder charges despite the fact that she insists she shot and killed her estranged husband in self-defense.

    Jacqueline Dixon fired the fatal shot at her husband, 44-year-old Carl Omar Dixon, on Tuesday morning. Carl Omar Dixon was found unresponsive in the front yard of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene, AL.com reports.

    Jacqueline Dixon was taken into custody at the scene. She told officers that her husband had charged at her in an aggressive manner when she fired what Police Chief Spencer Collier described as a small-caliber handgun.

    Interestingly enough, Coller and the Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson acknowledge that Jacqueline Dixon did have an order of protection from abuse against her husband, however, according to authorities, she did not seek to enforce the order at times.

    Arrested, jailed, charged with a felony — for voting.

    GRAHAM, N.C. — Keith Sellars and his daughters were driving home from dinner at a Mexican restaurant last December when he was pulled over for running a red light. The officer ran a background check and came back with bad news for Sellars. There was a warrant out for his arrest.

    As his girls cried in the back seat, Sellars was handcuffed and taken to jail.

    His crime: Illegal voting.

    “I didn’t know,” said Sellars, who spent the night in jail before his family paid his $2,500 bond. “I thought I was practicing my right.”

    Sellars, 44, is one of a dozen people in Alamance County in North Carolina who have been charged with voting illegally in the 2016 presidential election. All were on probation or parole for felony convictions, which in North Carolina and many other states disqualifies a person from voting. If convicted, they face up to two years in prison.

      The problem that I’ve always had with him is that, if you want to spend millions on the Democratic side…the money needs to be spent on voter registration and getting Voter IDs in those voter suppression states. Just seems like a vanity project by him, and we don’t need those vanity projects on our side. We got work to do.

    Trump administration tells ACLU to find deported parents
    08/02/2018 11:33 PM EDT

    The Trump administration on Thursday informed a federal judge that it isn’t responsible for locating deported parents separated forcibly from their children at the southern border.

    DOJ said in a court filing that the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit over family separations, should instead take the lead in reunifying deported parents with their children.

    “Plaintiffs’ counsel should use their considerable resources and their network of law firms, NGOs, volunteers, and others, together with the information that defendants have provided (or will soon provide), to establish contact with possible class members in foreign countries,” DOJ said.

    The administration suggested that the ACLU find out whether the deported parents wish to be reconnected with their children, or whether they waive that option.

    DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has stated repeatedly that no parents were deported without first being given the option to take their children with them. But a Trump administration official told POLITICO on July 25 that an estimated three-quarters of the parents who left the country alone left no record behind that they ever consented to leave their children in the U.S. “We don’t see it in the documentation,” the official said.

    O/T? Was just prowling around on Facebook and came across this great story in a friend-of-a-friend’s feed. I have no idea where it took place, assuming the story is even accurate. True or not, it’s LOL-worthy.

    There’s this 24-hour sandwich kiosk near my job run by a Muslim guy and during prayers, the Central American dude working at the pretzel cart next to him will step in and take over for a bit to help him out. When the pretzel guy can’t, regular customers respectfully wait in line until they can be attended.

    This morning some tourists wearing fanny packs and crucifixes were bitching about having to wait three minutes (he was almost done) and a freaking nun in the queue turned around and said “my brother is praying, show some respect” and before the mouthiest of the tourists could respond, this ENORMOUS Armenian construction worker who is the absolute nicest man and says good morning to everyone every single day turns around and says “Are you gonna fuckin’ argue with a fuckin’ nun? Fuck outta here! Yo, Sister, ‘scuse my language, but Christ. Oh shit, I didn’t mean that. I’ll stop tawkin’ now.”

    AND the Sister gave him a very sly fist bump and now I have coffee in my nasal passages.

    I. Seriously. Love. This. City. Sometimes.

    From the Jane Mayer New Yorker story about the riff between Dolt45 and Charles Koch:

    Most of the media coverage of the “ugly public feud,” as the New York Times called it, between President Trump and the Koch brothers has taken the Kochs at their word that they may have to give up on the Republican Party of Trump and start backing Democrats, so disgusted are they with the President’s protectionist trade policies. But history suggests that the Kochs’ threat is about as believable as that of a parent threatening to “just plain leave” if a balky toddler doesn’t behave.

    Despite the brothers’ record as among the country’s largest and most consistently partisan financial sponsors, the Kochs’ pique at their own party is nothing new. For decades they have complained bitterly about Republican politicians whose fealty to their libertarian agenda has rarely, in their view, been absolute enough. This dissatisfaction with the Grand Old Party was evident as far back as 1980…

    … In fact, it was the Kochs’ disappointment with George W. Bush’s expansion of prescription-drug benefits, among other issues, that inspired them, in 2003, to form their political-fund-raising network with like-minded conservatives. Since then, the group has grown into a private political machine that arguably rivals, and by some estimates overpowers, the Republican Party itself. Earlier this year, the network announced that it planned to spend four hundred million dollars in the coming midterm-election cycle, to help preserve the Republican majority in both houses of Congress. But last weekend, somewhat unexpectedly, at a meeting in Colorado Springs, of some five hundred members of this group, all of whom have pledged to contribute at least a hundred thousand dollars annually to the cause, Koch officials attacked Trump, in all but name, as “divisive,” and threatened to start backing Democrats in some midterm races….

    On the surface, the cause of the rift is their opposition to Trump’s protectionist trade and immigration policies, which clash with their free-market preferences—and Koch Industries’ bottom line. The policy fight runs deep, reflecting a larger rift in the Republican Party on these issues. Exacerbating tensions, Trump and Charles Koch are both headstrong billionaires who are accustomed to buying, and then getting, their ways. Both were sent to military schools by their parents, after having disciplinary problems at home, and both have high regard for themselves as self-made men, despite both inheriting vast fortunes from their fathers.

    Beyond this, both appear to think that the Republican Party in particular, and American politics in general, should be theirs to dominate. Yet, if you parse last weekend’s complaint from Charles Koch carefully, what you see is that his ire wasn’t so much directed at Trump, whom he didn’t name, as at the Republicans in Congress for having fallen in line with the President instead of with him….

    As Stephen Bannon, Trump’s former chief political strategist and an architect of the nationalist and nativist policies that the Kochs oppose, put it, “the donor class controlled the Republican Party—that is, until the rise of Trump.” Now, the Kochs’ real problem, he said, was that they “see that being ripped away.”…
