Monday Open Thread | Robert Mueller, III, Played the Long Game

This past week has been very interesting indeed. For those of us who believe in the rule of law, and were hoping that we would finally see some justice come our way, it seems that we were rewarded.

One of the pundits on MSNBC said that it’s rare, but finally, the law caught up with the politics. The law usually grinds at a slower pace, but when action finally comes, it’s stunning. That’s what happened last week.

And, it happened because Special Counsel Robert Mueller, III, has been playing the long game.
There have been no leaks from his office. He hasn’t been playing footsie with reporters. He has no delusions about the landscape. Anyone with eyes can see that, not only is Dolt45 crooked, but also that an entire other branch of the government – the GOP -led Congress, has no interest in performing their Constitutional Duty check on Dolt45. That they have abdicated their role, and will not stand up for the rule of law.

We don’t know what Mueller completely knows. We only know a fraction of what he knows. But, he has systematically put fail safe switches all over the place, just in case he was fired. He did this by farming out, case after case, to other jurisdictions. To jurisdictions where the President holds no sway and can’t fire people. Robert created his own legal octopus.

Next Manafort trial will likely make Trump more uncomfortable

Rachel Maddow points out that while Robert Mueller has referred pieces of his investigation to other divisions, he has kept Paul Manafort’s trials to himself, and the second trial is about Manafort being an unregistered agent of a foreign power while he was running the Donald Trump campaign, a case Trump may not enjoy watching play out.

The only case that we know of that Robert Mueller hasn’t farmed out has been the Manafort case. And, last week, we saw the results of that. Manafort was one juror away of being put away on ALL 18 counts. And, even the MAGA-head on the jury voted in favor of conviction in ALL 18 counts. What’s the likelihood that Manafort will get a MAGA-head on the jury in DC? Slim to none, since Dolt45 won a whopping 4% of the vote in D.C.

And, the mistrial votes didn’t do Manafort that much favor, because they set him up to be charged for those same crimes in Virginia. A mistrial doesn’t mean double jeopardy is at play, and, so, those state charges are NON-PARDONABLE. So, yeah, it sucks to be Paul Manafort…LOL

    An inspector general report finds President Trump “was more intimately involved in the debate over relocating the FBI headquarters than Congress was told,” Roll Call reports.

    Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, a Democrat representing parts of Northern Virginia, said the report he requested from the General Services Administration IG confirmed his suspicions that the president was involved in the decision to scrap plans to vacate the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, and move the agency to a campus location in either the Maryland or Virginia suburbs.

    Said Connolly: “When we began this investigation, the prospect that President Trump was personally involved in the government-led redevelopment of a property in close proximity to the Trump Hotel was dismissed as a conspiracy theory. Now, the president’s involvement in this multi-billion-dollar government procurement which will directly impact his bottom line has been confirmed by the White House Press Secretary and government photographs.”

    We don’t need to tell you that weddings can get expensive. Even with the most meticulous budgeting, a few unexpected costs are bound to crop up. While most brides tend to accept this as fact, one Canadian woman, who is only known as “Susan,” attempted to circumvent all wedding costs by asking her friends and family to pay up to attend her wedding. It went about as well as you’d expect.

    “Susan” is causing quite the debate online after posting a bizarre Facebook rant about her now-canceled wedding. Yup, the couple called off the wedding just days before their I dos, after their guests refused to pay the $1,500 attendance fee Susan was demanding in order to pay for her CAD $60,000 ($46,020 USD) dream wedding.

    In her long-winded, expletive-filled explanation, the (former) bride accused her friends and family of ruining her marriage and her life. “How could we have our wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding? We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true,” she reportedly wrote on Facebook. “My maid of honor pledged $5,000 along with her planning services. We tearfully thanked and accepted. My ex’s family offered to contribute $3,000. So our request for $1,500 for all other guests was not f***ing out of the ordinary. Like, we made it clear. If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once and a lifetime [sic] party.”

    Rikyrah, I can’t thank you enough for stepping up and covering for me. I’ve just been sick and lost without my computer. It’s gone to the shop to see if it can be fixed. I used Josh’s computer to take care of some business and I was lost trying to figure things out.

    He has turned porn star Stormy Daniels into Joan of Arc.

    He has brought Robert Mueller’s protectors to the defense of the horrid Jeff Sessions, who may well be a racist and is definitely a monster for conducting the policy of family separations at our southern border.

    He has made foul-mouthed, bullying Michael Cohen, Trump’s “fixer,” emerge as an antihero.

    He has made Senators Bob Corker and the Tea Party darling Jeff Flake appear as valiant crusaders for integrity, unafraid to put principle above party.

    In this dramatic opera of demons, the lesser evils are part of the phalanx standing between us and the greater evils: Trump’s corruption, possible criminality, and definite rage, racism and cruelty.

    They are also what has helped to buy time for Mueller to complete his investigation before Trump can end it.

    After Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) passed away Saturday evening, President Donald Trump vetoed the release of a glowing statement on the former congressman and prisoner of war, opting to instead post a mere 21-word statement on Twitter expressing “sympathies” for the family, The Washington Post reported.

    According to current and former White House aides who spoke to the Post, top White House officials like press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Chief of Staff John Kelly pushed Trump to sign off on a pre-written statement that praised McCain’s military service and career as a senator, calling the decorated Vietnam War POW a “hero.” That statement, which was written Saturday, was ready for Trump to sign off on this weekend, but Trump rejected it.

    “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!” he tweeted Saturday.

    White House aides scrambled to post glowing statements from a slew of other officials instead, according to the Post, including Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and most other members of Trump’s Cabinet.

    Earlier in the evening at a campaign forum here, he had yelled, unprompted, about Medicare for all. During his introductory statement, he had bellowed about dentures.

    Now, as the audience groaned at his attacks on other candidates, he snapped.

    “Excuse me! Excuse me!” he thundered. “I’m here to talk, O.K.?”

    The moderator threatened to turn his microphone off. And then Levi Sanders — the son of the Vermont senator this neighboring state knows well — shouted some more.

    Bernie Sanders declined to comment for this article. In an interview in May, he snapped at a question about his son before requesting to go off the record.
