If there’s a candidate that I sooooo want to be triumphant in November, it’s Beto O’Rourke.

Beto is a the man who has Ted Cruz running scared in Texas.

As always, Beto could use your help. Texas is an expensive place to run.

About Beto:

Beto O’Rourke is a fourth-generation Texan, born and raised in El Paso. After graduating from Columbia University, Beto worked in New York for a few years before deciding to move back to his hometown and start a small technology company. El Paso wasn’t the most likely place to start a company like this, but thanks to the work of some really talented El Pasoans, the company was a success. Over the years Stanton Street hired dozens of people in high skill, high-wage jobs that one might not expect to see in a border community.

Outside of work, Beto became deeply involved in the civic, business and community efforts in El Paso. He ran for El Paso City Council in 2005 and served for two terms before running for U.S. Congress in 2012, taking on an eight-term incumbent and winning. He knocked on thousands of doors and had real conversations, face-to-face, with the voters in El Paso.

In Congress, Beto serves on the House Committees for Armed Services and Veterans Affairs. He has made it a priority to work across the aisle to secure bipartisan support for his legislation, because Beto knows our country is at its best when we can put party aside to work together, build consensus and find common ground.

Much of Beto’s focus has been on improving the ability for veterans to get the health care — and other earned benefits — that they need. He’s also been focused on curbing the influence of corporate money in Congress. He helped introduce the “No PAC Act,” which would stop candidates for federal office from relying on PACs to bankroll their campaigns.

 

Accountability and responsiveness are critical to excellence in public service. Beto has made it a priority to host monthly town halls in El Paso to hear directly from his constituents. For nearly five years he hasn’t missed a single one. And that’s exactly how he’s running his campaign for U.S. Senate.

Beto is traveling to every part of Texas to meet with Texans in their communities. Whether they’re Democrats, Republicans, Independents or even non-voters, all Texans deserve an accountable, full-time, full-service Senator who’s committed to working tirelessly for our state. Now is the time for Texas to step up and lead.

Beto and his wife, Amy, are raising their three children, Ulysses, Molly and Henry, in El Paso.

    When Jocelyn Bell Burnell began her doctoral studies in physics at Cambridge University in 1965, she was convinced that they had made a mistake by admitting her. “I’m not bright enough for this place,” she now recalls thinking.

    It didn’t help that she was one of only two women in her graduate program. And Cambridge was far more affluent than anywhere she had lived before. Both factors likely contributed to her impostor syndrome, she told The Washington Post, “although of course we didn’t know that term then.”

    Bell Burnell’s response was to work as hard as she possibly could. If they threw her out anyway, she figured, she would know that she wasn’t smart enough to be at Cambridge.

    Her diligence ended up paying off. Two years after she arrived at Cambridge, Bell Burnell discovered the first pulsars — a groundbreaking revelation that on Thursday earned her the $3 million special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, which was previously awarded to Stephen Hawking, among others.

    It’s a recognition that many feel is long overdue. Bell Burnell’s male PhD supervisor won a Nobel Prize for the same discovery — in 1974.

    Obama speech to urge big Democratic turnout in November elections

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former U.S. President Barack Obama will warn Democratic voters in a speech on Friday that the stakes are too high to sit out November’s elections when the party is seeking to wrest control of Congress from President Donald Trump’s Republicans.

    Obama has largely avoided the spotlight since Trump succeeded him last year. But Friday’s speech at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will mark the start of a flurry of activity as he hits the campaign trail in coming weeks on behalf of Democratic candidates.

    On Saturday, Obama will appear at an event in Southern California for seven Democratic candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives in Republican-held districts that backed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016, putting them high on the Democratic list of targets.

    Obama travels next week to Ohio to campaign for the Democratic candidate for governor, Richard Cordray, a former Obama administration official.

    Later in the month, he is expected to campaign in Illinois and Pennsylvania, the latter state being critical to Democratic hopes of picking up the 23 seats needed to win a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and put the brakes on Trump’s agenda.

      Some Americans are always trying to take others’ accomplishments away from them and award them to others or belittle them by saying, “Oh, s/he got what s/he got because of affirmative action.” Hell to the no. When I was at UGA, there were only a few blacks on campus in 1971, and I never had another black student in my classes until my Junior year. I graduated in three years. Guess who some of my white classmates asked to help them? Me. They knew I had the brains to do it. The same thing happened in graduate school. I never refused to help them, but I could have. I always remember what my parents used to tell me and my brothers:”People can take a whole lot of things away from you, but they can’t take your knowledge.” All of PBO’s detractors know he’s wicked smart, ethical, a good husband and father, and is a major contributor to society to make it better. They want so badly to take these things away from him, but they can’t because his life shows every one of them every d@mn day. He lives his beliefs. They can’t rebut that no matter how hard they try.
