Josse Andres… I love this man.

Who is he?

José Ramón Andrés Puerta (born 13 July 1969), known as José Andrés, is a Spanish-American chef often credited for bringing the small plates dining concept to America. He owns restaurants in Washington D.C.; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; Las Vegas; South Beach, Florida; and Dorado, Puerto Rico. Andrés is chair of the advisory board for LA Kitchen, a social enterprise in Los Angeles, California that works to reduce food waste, provide job training, and increase access to nutritious food. He was awarded a 2015 National Humanities Medal at a 2016 White House ceremony.

Career

Early in his career, he trained under Ferran Adrià at the restaurant elBulli. Beginning in the fall of 2010, Andrés taught a culinary physics course at Harvard University with Ferran Adrià.[5] In May 2012, Andrés was named dean of Spanish Studies at The International Culinary Center, where he and Colman Andrews developed a curriculum in traditional and modern Spanish cuisine, which debuted in February 2013. On 29 October 2012, he announced he was heading back to the classroom, and would teach his first course on how food shapes civilization at George Washington University next year.

In response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, he formed World Central Kitchen which provides healthy food to families and individuals touched by disasters. The organization operated in Southern California during the December 2017 wildfires to assist firefighters and first responders including the huge Thomas Fire in Ventura County. The organization also provided food to families affected by the fires.

Trump Hotel restaurant

Andrés planned to open a restaurant in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, in 2016. However, after Donald Trump made disparaging comments about Mexicans in June 2015, Andrés withdrew from the contract with the Trump Organization, which then sued him. Andrés counter-sued, and the parties reached a settlement in April 2017.[10] Andrés remains an outspoken critic of Trump.

Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria response

Andrés emerged as a leader of the disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria in 2017. His efforts to provide assistance encountered obstacles from FEMA and government bureaucrats, so instead, “we just started cooking.” He organized a grass-roots movement of chefs and volunteers to establish communications, food supplies, and other resources and started serving meals. Andrés and his organization World Central Kitchen served more than 2,000,000 meals in the first month after the hurricane. WCK received two short term FEMA contracts and served more meals than the Salvation Army or the Red Cross, but its application for longer term support was denied.

Personal life

Andrés is married and has three daughters. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in December 2013.

    “…A representative for Melania Trump criticized the panelists of the “The View” after the women addressed the first lady’s response to the anonymous op-ed submitted to The New York Times by a senior official within the Trump administration.

    In the segment of Friday’s show, Sunny Hostin read the statement Melania put out after the op-ed was published, saying in part, “Unidentified sources have become the majority of the voices people hear about in today’s news. People with no names are writing our nation’s history.”

    The statement added: “Words are important, and accusations can lead to severe consequences. If a person is bold enough to accuse people of negative actions, they have a responsibility to publicly stand by their words and people have the right to be able to defend themselves.”

    Hostin alluded to the idea of Melania being hypocritical in her statement, based upon some of the first lady’s previous actions.

    “I recall that Melania was also a birther,” said Hostin, referring to a group of people who believe President Obama wasn’t born in America. “Weren’t those words very important and accusation very important?”

    Host Joy Behar also mentioned the fact that Melania wore a jacket with the words “I Really Don’t Care Do U” while on her way to visit immigrant children in Texas.

    Well, my theory is she won’t come clean as long as law enforcement is protecting her and, BTW, who is bankrolling her defense and PR consultant?

    DALLAS — There were more protests in Dallas on Wednesday over the fatal shooting of a black man inside his own home by a white off-duty police officer. The family of Botham Jean, the man who was killed, is demanding answers.

    — Two other stories also show why you should pay more attention to what Trump does than what he says:

    The Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday that it will more than triple the size of a tent city for migrant children in El Paso. The camp at the Tornillo-Guadalupe Land Port of Entry will grow from 1,200 beds to as many as 3,800. “The Trump administration established the camp in June as a temporary shelter because its facilities elsewhere were running out of space,” Nick Miroff reports. “Widespread condemnation forced Trump to reverse [his family separation policy in June], but since then HHS has taken in greater numbers of underage migrants. The number of families illegally crossing the border jumped again in recent weeks … [HHS spokesman Kenneth Wolfe] said the agency has 12,800 minors in its custody, the highest number ever. Minors spend an average of 59 days in HHS custody, up from 51 days in 2017.”
