Brett Kavanaugh withdraws from teaching at Harvard Law this winter, as graduates gather signatures objecting to his role

More than 750 Harvard Law School graduates had signed a letter asking the dean to rescind the appointment of U.S. Supreme Court nominee as a lecturer.

Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh will not teach at Harvard Law School in the winter, as he was expected to do, the university announced Monday night in an email to law students.

“Today, Judge Kavanaugh indicated that he can no longer commit to teaching his course in January Term 2019, so the course will not be offered,” Catherine Claypoole of the law school curriculum committee wrote in an email to students Monday night.

Hundreds of Harvard Law School graduates had signed a letter calling on the school to rescind Kavanaugh’s appointment as lecturer at the school, following sexual misconduct allegations against the U.S. Supreme Court nominee.

They had not sent the letter to the school’s dean as of Monday evening.

“People are coming together to say, ‘This isn’t the type of person we want teaching at Harvard Law,’” said Jessica Lynn Corsi, a law lecturer and 2010 graduate of the school. It’s an incredibly important job, she said, to shape the minds of students destined to become Supreme Court justices, legal scholars and other leaders.

Rod Rosenstein is Kavanaugh’s pal …he was even at the initial confirmation to support him..

  2. How did they get away with this for so long? How is it their crimes are just coming to light? Authorities dropped the ball here. Jamycheal Mitchell, a Black man was jailed for a $5 theft & died in jail but this fraud went untouched for years & is now in the Oval Office. #Amerikkka

    Post Card Patriots

Hoping you could feature the just-launched website PostCardPatriots.com in a post.

It was inspired by the Balloon Juice Top 40 Candidates – plus John Cole’s favorite Kendra Nesser, who responded most enthusiastically – as a way we could all do something meaningful to flip the House.

Even those of us who are too busy – or physically unable – to canvas.

We can Armchair Activist and boost turnout. We can write personal PostCards to Dems encouraging them to vote Nov 6th.

The site has some free postcards to download and print. Some examples of things to write. All people have to do is use the email form and tell me how many addresses they’d like for which House Candidates. I’ll send them the addresses and they can start writing.

I contacted all 40 campaigns. Am still hearing back from them. But have a wide enough group of great candidates that we can go.

And if people can get voter addresses from any of the next 46 BJ candidates, will happily add those campaigns, too.

    We can flip the House.

    We can save the Constitution.

    We can have affordable HealthCare.

    We can stop Trump.

All we have to do is Vote

Republicans reach the ‘triage’ stage of the 2018 midterm election cycle

    By Steve Benen

Ask party officials at the various campaign committees about their expectations in any given race, and in nearly every instance, you’ll hear a stock answer. If they expect to win, partisans will say something like, “_____ is running a great race, and we feel good about his/her chances.” If they expect to lose, they’ll say, “It’s an uphill climb, but we think _____ is going to surprise people on Election Day.”

It’s why I think it’s best not to even bother asking party officials what they expect to see happen. Instead, I find it far more useful to follow the money. Slate reported yesterday:

In the past several weeks, House Republicans – either via the National Republican Congressional Committee, which serves as their official campaign arm, or the Congressional Leadership Fund, a big-dollar super PAC aligned closely with Paul Ryan – have nixed plans to spend big in defense of at least four incumbents in races that had been widely considered competitive: Reps. Mike Coffman in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, Mike Bishop in Michigan’s 8th, Keith Rothfus in Pennsylvania’s new 17th, and Kevin Yoder in Kansas’ 3rd.

Analysis finds 290 hours of ‘private’ meetings on Chao’s calendar
BY EMILY BIRNBAUM – 10/01/18 09:35 AM EDT

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has spent more than 290 hours in meetings labeled “private” during her first 14 months in the position, according to a new Politico analysis of her calendars.

Documents obtained by Politico through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) indicate Chao has spent a large amount of time in “private” meetings, which have usually taken place on Fridays after lunchtime.

One Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesperson told Politico some of the “private” time was spent traveling, while other blocks involved appointments ranging “from doctor’s appointments to meeting with personal friends to tending to personal needs or regularly sharing meals with her husband.”

Chao is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

    A RIGHTEOUS RANT

Kavanaugh, Graham, Grassley, & Co. Rage Against the Dying of the Whites (Ferret/ShowerCap)

This one was hard, friends. For the first time, shit was so abominable, I didn’t WANT to blog about it. The news has been like a cheese grater, slowly, painfully, eroding my brain into a pile of taco toppings. I wanna stick my head in a sauna till it sweats out the memory of every single moment of the Kavanaugh hearing.

It seems like a decade ago, when we enjoyed a little chuckle watching the Hairplug That Ate Decency belch up his usual dogbowlful of self-aggrandizing nonsense at the United Nations, only to have the world laugh directly in his sharty little face. All the fear he imagines he inspires, the respect he so desperately craves, and he was roundly, openly, mocked without a second thought. And though you’d normally feel a twinge of patriotic anger to see your President so humiliated on the world stage, with this bloated assclown, your only regret is that you weren’t there to take take the diplomats out for a beer later.

Oh, and the Velveeta Vulgarian, who has of late been test-driving various excuses for his imminent midterm spanking, accused China of meddling in the elections because hey why not? One thing I’ll say for MAGA nation, it must be fun having your Bible written and re-written in real time. “What do we believe today? Who are we supposed to love now that we hated a week ago?” George Orwell seriously underestimated how much FUN it could be to resculpt reality to suit the fleeting needs of a moment.

Speaking of pathetic Republicans who get no respect largely because they deserve none, Rand Paul’s shady little proposal to lift sanctions on his new BFF, Vlad Putin, over that one thing when Russia INVADED UKRAINE AND SEIZED CRIMEA, of course went down in flames. One of these days, us taxpayers should bill Rand for all the valuable government time he wastes with these little stunts of his. I’m sure they impress the college libertarian clubs, though.

Damaging new details emerge on Trump’s response to Stormy Daniels
    10/02/18 09:20 AM
    By Steve Benen

Donald Trump has said quite a bit about his alleged extra-marital affair with Stormy Daniels, but very few of the president’s claims have stood up to scrutiny. A new Wall Street Journal report puts Trump in an even worse position, explaining that Trump was “personally” involved in an effort to silence the porn star.

In a phone call, Mr. Trump instructed his then-lawyer Michael Cohen to seek a restraining order against the former adult-film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, through a confidential arbitration proceeding, one of the people said. Messrs. Trump and Cohen had learned shortly before that Ms. Clifford was considering giving a media interview about her alleged relationship with Mr. Trump, despite having signed an October 2016 nondisclosure agreement.

Mr. Trump told Mr. Cohen to coordinate the legal response with Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, and another outside lawyer who had represented Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization in other matters, the people said. Eric Trump, who is running the company with his brother in Mr. Trump’s absence, then tasked a Trump Organization staff attorney in California with signing off on the arbitration paperwork, these people said.
