Monday Open Thread | Susan Collins stabs women in the back

Susan Collins ignored Americans — and the residents of Maine — to support Brett Kavanaugh, despite his record of hostility against women and their rights.

Sen. Susan Collins joined her fellow Republicans — and rejected the pleas of her Maine constituents, particularly women — to announce she would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Protesters in the gallery of the Senate pleaded with Collins to “vote no,” but she turned her back on them and millions of Americans.

“I will vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh,” she said Friday after an extremely long speech.

Collins paid lip service to what she called the “compelling” testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who described in excruciating detail how Kavanaugh tried to rape her, but ultimately, Collins dismissed those allegations and sided with Kavanaugh and the rest of the Republican Party.

With the announcement of her support for Kavanaugh, Collins, despite her repeated claim to support reproductive rights, is casting a vote that will surely undo those protections.

For Collins, the protests didn’t matter. The groundswell of opposition across the country and in her home state fell on deaf ears.

From early in the process, Collins lashed out at critics who said support of Kavanaugh undermined her supposedly moderate stance. Despite the serious underlying issues, she remained dismissive throughout the entire proceedings.

Newspapers in her home state said Kavanaugh was unfit for the court, but she simply did not care.

HOW INSULTING

Instead of listening, Collins did what conservative ideologues like Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sens. Orrin Hatch, Lindsey Graham, and others wanted her to do. They backed Kavanaugh to the hilt, praising him even as details of his alleged hostility surfaced.

Even after former justice John Paul Stevens said Kavanaugh’s vitriolic appearance before the Senate had disqualified him in his eyes, Collins was undeterred.

Trump smeared Ford at a campaign rally, and Collins said she was “appalled”… and then she backed Kavanaugh anyway.

After it all, Collins turned her back on women, on Maine, and on America.

She sided with Brett Kavanaugh and has forever added his legacy to hers.

Dangle carrots so that ambitious female attorneys jostling for a spot as SC clerk, will “vouch” for you..

And still as blatantly guilty and manifesting every arrested development and sociopathic qualities previously on display ..

    Nothing changed..

    I am so livid..

    Ugh..

This is a gaslighting political event… something that was obvious to any thinking person once it was announced this morning…

Why are Ginsburg, Sotomayor, Kagan – supporting, validating, endorsing – and unbelievably, most importantly, normalizing and legitimizing this rubbish headlined by a treasonous buffoon and his political cohort..

These folks who never extended the 2-term legitimately elected historic president respect, and wouldn’t even show up for the historic President’s SOU speech as required…

    WTF???!!!

Why are Justice Ginsburg, Sotomayor, and Kagan validating a treasonous buffoon and his shit-show.. a stolen SC seat and a forcibly entrenched accused sex assualter ..WTF!!!

    WTF???

This is NOT an obligatory event…

Why are they lending credence to this disgrace..??

When their fellow SC justices wouldn’t even show up for obligatory national events by the historic President… ?

    WTF???!!!

Collins lies/diversions/missing parts – She makes no comment that Republicans totally blocked President Obama’s nominee. She does not mention that Democrats did not go after last nominee from Colorado. She carefully crafted a false argument and will be responsible for countless assaults and rapes encouraged by GOP discarding Dr. Fords words and experience. She knows she is wrong but does not care, since she has become not different from other politicians who will do anything, say anything to continue to disdain the worth of other humans who believe differently then her. Vile is not strong enough to describe her abetting rape and murder of women in the present and the future!

“If you’re a voter in Georgia, there is a 1 in 10 chance that you were purged from the voting rolls at some point in 2017. Thanks to journalist Greg Palast, there is now a website where you can type in your name and find out if your constitutional right was stripped away from you. The bad news is that you’ll only have until Tuesday to reregister — which is why the journalist wants the news about Georgia’s voter purging to spread as far as possible, as fast as possible.”

In her speech, Senator Collins sounds like an addled old woman. And for her to say that Dr. Ford is mistaken about the identity of her attacker is a truly horrible accusation.

Collins looks to me like she’s ready for assisted living.

      Truth.

The Republicans showed up at my door to kindly ask me to vote for Martha McSally.

I told them I was wasn’t voting for that despicable lyin’ ass bitch and they could get off my lawn. The Republicans who call me on the phone get a similar message.

I really think that is message that needs to be conveyed.

I’ve got no use for civility. Martha McSally et al is running a dirty, dishonest campaign against Kyrsten Sinema. And Doug Ducey’s campaign against the Democratic candidate David Garcia is extremely negative.

But they talk about civility. GTFOH.
