Thursday Open Thread | Video captures man’s racist rant at Dunkin’

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man was caught on camera this week making a racist rant while accosting an employee at a Miami Beach Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins store.

Maggie Gaitan said she was at the restaurant Monday when a man walked in and started demanding to be served.

“It was just absolutely horrible,” Gaitan said.

Gaitan said only one employee was working at the time, and she was helping another customer.

“The attendant, she was giving an ice cream to a kid,” Gaitan said. “So he walks around where the line was where I was and he started to say to the lady, just like, bad words.”

Gaitan said the man kept muttering to himself under his breath, so she decided she needed to speak up.

“I said, ‘Hey, if you don’t like it, go out. There’s other places,'” she said.

The woman at the shop also told him he needed to stop cursing or he would have to leave. That’s when Gaitan said he blew up, hurling racial slurs and obscene hand gestures at the employee before walking out the door.

Before he left, he banged on the window and showed his middle finger to the camera.

“I can’t believe, (in the year) 2018, we’re living things that my mother and father (were) living,” Gaitan said.

Whether or not Trump is wholly talking out of his humongous ass on this particular matter, his administration is counting on the existence of a dutiful, subordinate press that prizes scoops above principles…

    Jonathan Swan and I are both immigrants in the U.S.—he is from Australia and I am from Britain. We are both very privileged and can pay for immigration lawyers. (Swan could pay for five green card applications with one speaking gig.) We are not migrant laborers, nor terrified mothers fleeing violence; we are not Iranian students affected by the travel ban, or Afghan teens being detained by ICE because of a racist algorithm. With that privilege comes responsibility … it’s a thousand times worse for people who are not as privileged as we are. We have a responsibility to stand in solidarity with the classes of immigrants that are the targets of policies like this. Letting Trump use your HBO show to promote his next anti-immigrant gambit is the opposite of that. Have some fucking shame..”

    Beware the beholden, slimy enablers in the media …weasels like David Chalian Jake Tapper, Willie Geist who on behalf of their own personal allegiances, and armed with their marching orders from their Alt-Right and dubiously racist Zionist oligarch owners, always find a way to weasel right through to save the day on behalf of white supremacy.. no matter how corrupt, substandard, dumb, greedy, callous, mediocre, treasonous, murderous..

    As David Chalian actively talks up and continues to actively elevate and provide cover for a treasonous buffoon and his corrupt cohort.. And Willie Geist once again tries to tear down Democratic candidates with manufactured ‘scandals’ – even as he, Jake Tapper etc. have never had the guts to take on or even call out the actual brazen criminal and treasonous activities of republicans playing out right before our eyes… We must stay alert and never let our guard down no matter how often some of these media folks throw a bone our way or keep having folk believe they’ve finally seen the light… and are finally ready to do the right and patriotic thing on behalf of the truth and this once great country..

    It isn’t always necessarily the instantly recognized raucous racist traitors in the right-wing media who pose the most threat or do the most harm to our democracy and union (though they also certainly do) …or even the recognizably right-wing callous alt-right types now mainstream interlopers – such as Noah Rothman, John Podhoretz, Jonah Goldberg etc. (they also most certainly do) …It is those sly, mealy-mouthed ones who present themselves as and pose as ‘reasonable’, ‘non-partisan’, ‘centrist’ and even ‘progressive’, embedded in what’s supposedly ‘mainstream media’, that slyly and not so slyly constantly muddy up things, step all over every credible smoking gun, provide cover, as they try again and again to uphold, validate, legitimize, normalize this corrupt, treasonous abomination..

    Democrat says Project Veritas infiltrated her campaign in Va.’s tight 7th District

    RICHMOND — A conservative group that creates undercover “sting” videos infiltrated the campaign of Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat in a tight race with Rep. Dave Brat in Virginia’s 7th District.

    The campaign said a young woman working for Project Veritas posed as a Democratic volunteer and spent every day over the past several weeks in Spanberger’s suburban Richmond campaign office, performing basic office tasks — and peppering her office mates with questions that eventually raised red flags.

    Campaign staffers on Wednesday confronted her and asked her to leave, a video released by the campaign shows.

    … Spanberger’s campaign said [Ms.] Jorge showed up a few weeks ago and said her name was Monica Nelson. She said she was five months’ pregnant and looking for something to do after overcoming an illness early in her pregnancy.

    In an email sent to the campaign’s deputy director Sunday, she pressed for a one-on-one meeting with Spanberger so she could pitch her idea for a website “to encourage moms to follow their political passions.”

    The campaign grew suspicious and found her image on a website that identified her as Marisa Jorge, a veteran of several previous Project Veritas stings.

    In a video provided by Spanberger’s campaign, Bye confronted Jorge on Wednesday.

    “We understand that you are here under false pretenses, and that we need to ask you to leave, and that your name is Marisa Jorge, and that you’re with Project Veritas,” Bye says.

    Jorge calmly says, “Okay, thank you,” and leaves immediately.
