I hope you enjoy the music as you rest, prepare for the holidays with family, or journal, or entertain friends and guests.

“Colorado passes Amendment A, voting to officially abolish prison slavery
Two years after a similar amendment failed, voters approved a measure that will remove state language allowing forced prison labor without pay.”

So amazing that a museum is offering sign ups to buy a Thanksgiving meal! The National African American Museum is doing just that at their cafeteria! Looks delicious!

The Voting Rights Act has got to be fully re-instated. Citizens United has got to be overturned. Gerrymandering has got to be outlawed. And the various other GOP voter suppression / disenfranchisement strategies in the states have got to be exposed one by one and outlawed.

Democrats cannot hope to simply outvote GOP voter suppression.

Unwanted subject’: What led a Kirkland yogurt shop to call police on a black man
    Danny Westneat / Columnist

He turned out to be supervising a parental visit, and is also a nine-year Air Force veteran. But the employees were scared of him and the police asked him to leave anyway.

    By Danny Westneat
    Seattle Times columnist

When I play the 911 call for Byron Ragland — the emergency call about him — I study his face. I expect that maybe he’ll get angry.

Instead he looks sad. When it ends, after three minutes, he sits back across the table and his eyes mist up a bit.

“What’s my reaction?” he says, after I ask. “My reaction is that this was just another Wednesday.”

    Good morning, y’all,

The Plains video reminded me of my ESCAPE FROM REALITY movie of the week.

Do y’all remember the Sarah Plain and Tall trilogy from the 90s?

I watched the first one which is the best of the three, I understand. I never saw it before, I don’t watch too many Hallmark made for TV movies. But this one was really good. I was skeptical at first, thinking they would romanticize a very harsh way of living (Kansas, 1910) in the interest of making a feel good movie suitable for family viewing.

But there was more to it than that. Actually kind of a tight little story about a spinster from Maine who answers a mail order bride advertisement from a widowed farmer in Kansas and decides to give him a 30 day trial run.

My favorite scene is when the woman gets off the train in Kansas. She looks around and sees these two guys waiting. One is overweight and the other very unattractive. She goes straight to the ticket window and buys a return ticket home. But then she turns around and guess who rolls up? The sweet, hunky, emotionally unavailable widowed farmer (played by Christopher Walken). And that changes everything.

I remember when everyone was answering personal ads just before the Internet became commercially available. So I guess it was in the 80s, early 90s. Everyone I knew did it, even my sister did it, but I never had the nerve.

Good Morning, Liza It’s interesting when music evokes a particular time or experience in our lives.

Music does become soundtracks in our lives.

I don’t recall the Sarah Plain and Tall trilogy. Now you’ve peaked my curiosity. Occasionally, I watch a movie on Hallmark channel.

Yeah, these days I’m feeling the need for more entertainment that either takes me back or takes me entirely to another time and place.
