beautiful-christmas-candles-2The Christmas Song (commonly subtitled “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” or, as it was originally subtitled, “Merry Christmas to You”) is a classic Christmas song written in 1944 by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé.

According to Tormé, the song was written during a blistering hot summer. In an effort to “stay cool by thinking cool”, the most-performed (according to BMI) Christmas song was born.[1] “I saw a spiral pad on his (Wells’) piano with four lines written in pencil”, Tormé recalled. “They started, ‘Chestnuts roasting…, Jack Frost nipping…, Yuletide carols…, Folks dressed up like Eskimos.’ Bob didn’t think he was writing a song lyric. He said he thought if he could immerse himself in winter he could cool off. Forty minutes later that song was written. I wrote all the music and some of the lyrics.”

The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song early in 1946. At Cole’s behest – and over the objections of his label, Capitol Records – a second recording was made later the same year utilizing a small string section, this version becoming a massive hit on both the pop and R&B charts.

    Vitamin, where you at? Are you working until dark? Daughter was still delivering packages tonight at 6:45pm. It was dark. She needed lights on. Wow!

      I found this ‘review’ strange..

      The ‘review’ was not only rather dry and long-winded, but weirdly, too often unnecessarily lifts and inserts huge chunks of the book in the review …giving away far too much, but in the driest way possible, that it’s all so boring and unappealing.. A far cry from the actual book..

      It reads less like a review and more like a boring, long-winded college paper on Mrs Obama’s memoir.

      Thank God! most people read the book before this ‘review’ came out, because if one read this ‘review’, they’d not only be bored to death, they’d be less inclined to actually want to read the book ..

        NYT’s attempt at co-opting FLOTUS’ work & success. I’m surprised at Isabelle W. Her book 📖 Warmth of Sun was a huge success. I enjoyed it.

        Michelle Obama can tell her own story lshe doesn’t need washed up newspapers like NYT to rehash her book. She’s very savvy, she knows folks games. I hats why she’s touring & speaking. We get it from the primary source-Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama.

    Trump says approval rating would be 75 percent without Mueller

    President Trump claimed Thursday that his approval rating would be 75 percent if it wasn’t for special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

    “Without the phony Russia Witch Hunt, and with all that we have accomplished in the last almost two years (Tax & Regulation Cuts, Judge’s, Military, Vets, etc.) my approval rating would be at 75% rather than the 50% just reported by Rasmussen,” Trump tweeted.

    Trump blasted Mueller’s probe as “Presidential Harassment!”

    The White House Has No Plan for Confronting the Mueller Report

    Nobody knows how the White House plans to respond to the Mueller report—including the people who work at the White House.

    The special counsel is reportedly nearing the end of his probe. Sentencing memos are dropping. Plea deals are being struck. The president’s legal team expects a response to his written interview “soon.”

    When the report will hit is the question. That it will hit, and that it will contain at least some new problems for President Donald Trump and those close to him—especially as House Democrats take the majority—seem certain.

      They have some other director in mind, so didn’t include Ryan Coogler in director category.

      Remember Barry Jenkins directed 2016 movie “Moonlight” and he wasn’t nominated in the DIRECTER category either. AND…. Moonlight was BRILLIANTLY directed.

    Judge denies LePage stay request in Medicaid expansion suit, but delays enrollment deadline
    The ruling effectively means the expansion will happen, but not until after Gov. LePage leaves office.

    The judge deciding the Medicaid expansion lawsuit has denied a stay request by the outgoing LePage administration, but set a new Feb. 1 deadline to enroll people in the expanded health insurance program.

    From a practical standpoint, the latest ruling makes the lawsuit a moot point. Gov.-elect Janet Mills, who assumes office in January, has vowed to begin enrolling people as soon as possible after her administration takes over.

    Maine voters approved Medicaid expansion in a November, 2017 referendum, but Republican Gov. Paul LePage, an expansion opponsent, has refused to implement it. About 70,000 low-income Mainers, mostly working-class childless adults or parents, will be eligible for Medicaid under the expansion.

    The advocacy group behind the voter referendum, Maine Equal Justice Partners, sued the LePage administration this spring, arguing that the Maine Department of Health and Human Services failed to follow the law by refusing to implement the expansion.

    Despite winning in court, the delays caused by having the court process play out has delayed implemententation, and with Mills taking over in January, Maine will be complying with the law.

    The ruling by Superior Court Justice Michaela Murphy on Thursday agrees with Maine Equal Justice Partners but pushes off the requirement that enrollments begin from Dec. 5 to Feb. 1.

    GOP and What Army? A Modest Proposal on How to Defy the Wisconsin Power Grab

    In Wisconsin, the Republican power grab is virtually certain now to get the signature of the outgoing Governor Scott Walker and become law. The Republican-controlled legislature in the state has voted to strip the Constitutional powers of the incoming Democratic governor and Democratic Attorney General (specifically, his power to withdraw the state from litigation against the Affordable Care Act), as well as shorten early voting, weaken the new governor’s power to issue regulations on WI’s voter ID law and the state’s economic development agency.

    Democrats have signaled that should the disgraced and outgoing Gov. Scott Walker (R) sign these subversions out of spite for the man who beat him, they may not get the last word. Lawsuits are a certainty, and of course, appropriate. The legislature cannot simply erode the powers of independently elected constitutional officers, and the voter suppression tactics have seen a rather successful level of resistance from the courts.

    The lawsuits should fly fast and furious. But that does not have to be the Democrats’ only response. The incoming Democratic administration – Wisconsinites elected Democrats to every statewide office last month – should simply govern as if the power grab had not happened.

      This touched me.. I don’t care how old or stoic a woman is, her husband being attentive to her and her needs and doting on her publicly and privately, is always, always a really good thing .. In this case, even more so..

      Look how vulnerable she gets when he holds her hand and looks into her eyes..

      He’ll have to spend the rest of his life making up to her for what he’s put her through – as far as I’m concerned, but this is a good start..
