Thursday Open Thread | Welcome Back, Madam Speaker

They have been demonizing Nancy Pelosi for at least a decade. But, it doesn’t bother her. The foolish believe it’s because she is weak, but the opposite is true.
Nancy Pelosi was an extremely effective Speaker, and that terrifies the GOP.

It should terrify Dolt45, if he had any sense.

They always make the mistake of caricaturizing Pelosi as a ” San Francisco liberal. ”

The truth is…at her core…
She is Nancy from Baltimore….but, they will learn.

So, what does it seem to be their strategy?

I don’t think much of Chuck, but I think he’s smarter than that.😒

This is how I feel.

What will the new Congress bring us?

YES YES YES👏👏👏

I said what I said😊😊😊👏👏

Yes👏👏👏

This has nothing to do with Speaker Pelosi, but, it has to do with the American Experiment, which continues:

Feds charge powerful Ald. Edward Burke with corruption
    by Jason Meisner
    Chicago Tribune

Longtime Ald. Edward Burke, one of Chicago’s most powerful figures and a vestige of the city’s old Democratic machine, has been charged with attempted extortion for allegedly using his position as alderman to corruptly solicit business for his private law firm.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story indicated Burke had already turned himself in. He is expected to do so Thursday afternoon.

The 37-page criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court comes five weeks after the FBI carried out a stunning raid on Burke’s City Hall office, working for hours behind windows covered with brown butcher paper before leaving down a back staircase with computers and files.

According to the one count, Burke in 2017 tried to extort a company that owns fast-food restaurants in the Chicago area and needed help with permits for a remodeling job.

The evidence includes numerous recorded calls from Burke’s cell phone as well as emails and other documents, according to the complaint, which was filed Wednesday and unsealed Thursday.

The complaint also alleged Burke illegally solicited a campaign donation from an executive with the restaurant company for another politician, who is not named in the charges.

WI Governor Will Ignore Republicans Lame Duck Legislation Curbing His Power
    January 3, 2019 at 4:15 am EST

Incoming Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) signaled “he would not go along with parts of lame-duck laws that curb his powers, suggesting that GOP lawmakers or their supporters would have to sue him over the issue,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The Democrat’s stance changes the dynamic in the fight over the lame-duck legislation by prodding Republicans into initiating litigation instead of doing so himself.

I don’t believe the story about the guy snatched up in Russia.

At first, I thought that he was CIA or some other intelligence person who got caught up. But, after looking around twitter at what folks have discovered about him..

Nope. Uh uh. He’s not genuine intelligence. I think it’s part of a scam to get Butina returned.

    snicker snicker snicker

Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she wouldn’t rule out President Trump being indicted while in office, describing the topic as “an open discussion.”

During an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, the House Democratic leader said it’s possible that special counsel Robert Mueller could seek an indictment against the sitting president, despite Justice Department guidelines against such action.

“I think that that is an open discussion. I think that is an open discussion in terms of the law,” Pelosi said, on the eve of reclaiming her former title as speaker of the House. She will become the first lawmaker in recent history to hold that office twice when the 116th Congress convenes Thursday.

  14. rikyrah says:

    From Jennifer Rubin:

We’ll have to see how Pelosi manages Trump’s temper tantrums, lies and incoherence but so far the approach has been four-fold. First, engage the president publicly and correct him/fact-check him in real time. This reminds voters that Trump is not operating in the real world and his positions aren’t tethered to reality. Second, make certain Trump is on the wrong side of public opinion. In the case of the border wall and the shutdown, voters oppose both. This further diminishes Trump’s leverage and puts pressure on Republicans to split from him. Third, make clear, concise statements of policy. This gives voters a sense that she is in command while Trump blathers on for days, changing his mind and contradicting his advisers. Finally, don’t negotiate against herself. Trump, as she wisecracked, has gone from a wall to slatted fence to “a beaded curtain.” Mocking Trump and pointing out his weakness infuriate him, demoralize his cult-followers and delight her base.
    ………………………….
In sum, Democratic pols, progressive pundits and ordinary voters should follow Pelosi’s example. Don’t get mad. Get even — and keep pounding away at the truth. Voters can figure out between Trump and Pelosi who’s operating in the real world.
