Monday Open Thread | Happy Birthday, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is the federal observance of the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We used to have a President who observed a day of service to others on this day. But, we know that ended on January 20, 2017.

Thank you for everything, Dr. King. Thank you for helping me and millions of others.

  3. If Nick Sandmann had been taunting a dog on video both white Democrats and Republicans would have been calling for his expulsion. But since the victim was a Native American who had the GALL to say “this is indigenous lands”, they HAD to find an excuse for the little rabid racist.

I remember being a teenager in Macon, GA, and having to stand outside at a special window to place an order at a downtown Krystal’s restaurant. While standing out there placing my order, I could look through the window and see white citizens sitting at the counters. Black workers took and prepared orders for myself and for those who were permitted to sit inside at the counters. There was no real difference in the handling of the orders and the preparation of the food, but there was a whole lot of difference in who could and could not enter that restaurant, sit down and eat that food.

Right-wing “Democrat” Tulsi Gabbard is now placing blame on her own Democratic Party for the shutdown. Just a reminder that Tulsi Gabbard is a piece of fucking shit, and if you haven’t yet denounced her 2020 campaign, you’re part of the problem. https://twitter.com/PalmerReport/status/1087230648669085697?s=17

Yes; the way to truly know who is who is to watch what they do, not what they say.

This means, are these folks calling out their racist, evil ass relatives, checking their own privilege and standing up for policies and legislation that eradicates racist policies that affect POC.

In other words SYSTEMIC WHITE SUPREMACIST RACISM

This is why the right invests so much time attacking AOC: they fear that her near pop culture status will make people listen to her ideas who normally wouldn’t. The irony is, the more they attack her the more they elevate her. https://t.co/ku3p2Gswjk https://twitter.com/JoyAnnReid/status/1087345350103519232?s=17

I’ve been watching videos all day. I have one thing to say (in a bunch of tweets, so hold on): The videos BACK UP/STRENGTHEN Mr. Nathan Phillips’ account of what happened toward the conclusion of the #IndigenousPeoplesMarch on Saturday. They also reveal how it all happened. 1/
