Tuesday Open Thread | So, Kamala Harris Being a Prosecutor is Supposed to be Disqualifying to Black People? Really?

Senator Kamala Harris announced that she is running for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President. Thought that it was coming….and so I wasn’t surprised to wake up on Sunday to this foolishness:

What is this foolishness?

She really is a simpleton.

Folks had her number, though.

Along those lines,Kim Foxx, the Cook County States Attorney that brought charges not only against the officer who murdered Laquan McDonald, but also the officers who falsified reports for said murderer.

Or, the young man who just won in Missouri, and fired the prosecutor who wouldn’t bring charges against Mike Brown’s executioner.

Or, I’m not supposed to be happy for the new DA in Philadelphia, while not Black, has different ideas when it comes to the Prison Industrial Complex…

Or, I’m not supposed to be pleased that the entire judiciary in Harris County, Texas- the state’s largest county, has had a complete turnaround in representation in November 2018…
Or, the same for Hinds County, Mississippi…

Folks get it twisted when they see Black people protesting the police. Like that means we’re against all laws, and have no use for police or prosecutors…

Not true. We have use for the law…we just want it to be applied EQUALLY….

EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW…

That means something to the Black community.

So, these simple azz simon attacks on Senator Kamala Harris because she was a Prosecutor and Attorney General, as if that disqualifies her..

Um…no.

No, will she have to defend her record, absolutely. Have no problem with it.
But, her existence in those jobs IS NOT disqualifying.

Uh huh
Uh huh

No less than 2Pac said this about Black people and their relationship to law enforcement:

Oh, yeah, and this too:

I don’t know how Senator Harris will do in the Democratic Primaries, but this nonsense of her being a Prosecutor is supposed to get me and other Black folk to discount her….Nope.

  1. Pay Black people reparations for their enslaved ancestors working and enduring untold sufferings for over 200 + years for free just like you’ll pay federal workers back pay for working for free. Time to pay up!

  3. How long must we endure this suffering, Lord?

  4. There is a culture of racism in this country. The country was founded upon it. Genocide & Enslavement. That’s why a person like Trump can get into the Oval Office and wreak havoc on the country & the leaders allow it. They are elevating & glorifying racism

Box of also rans who helped hand country to GOP dolts and shills for KKK, White Nationalists, Anti-Vaxers, Anti-woman, Pro-Russian and other dictator wannabes!

@trollhattan: It goes beyond that. If this new McConnell Rule, that the Senate will only take up legislation if it is assured in advance that the President will sign it into law, actually is effective, then McConnell will have turned the US Congress into a parliament and effectively repealed Article II of the US Constitution.

    • nedhamson says:

McConnell rule #1-#99 do, say anything to promote himself and his mate Trump and diss anything that a Democrat says or does! Rule #100 don’t do anything if you don’t get bribed/paid lots to say or do it!

    SG2,

Silverman at BJ has done a second post about the lies of Dolt45 and The Turtle on the Immigration Fake Ass Proposal:

And, the damages to DACA are broken down into a fraction. In essence, they want to end DACA, and replace it with something that everyone already in DACA wouldn’t be guaranteed of getting into the new program.

    Nothing but a goddamned fraud!!

-Army tells NYT it needs to be more creative about recruiting
-Pentagon “pleased” its narrowing its own enlistment pool https://t.co/MUpUqwHJC5

  12. rikyrah says:

Silverman at BJ has a breakdown of how much Dolt45 and The Turtle LIED in the ‘compromise’ Dolt45 put forth.

    Sigh….

The Senate Majority Leader and the President Lied About the Contents of Their Immigration and Border Security Compromise Bill

I know you all will find it hard to believe, but both the President and Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell lied about what was in the compromise immigration and border security bill that was negotiated between Senator McConnell, the Vice President, and Jared Kushner. It is not a combination of The Bridge Act for the Dreamers for three years, a renewal of the Temporary Protected Status Program for three years, funding for a variety of border security initiatives, and funding for about 200 miles or so of the Maga-Dope Line/the President’s border wall. Rather it is a simple three year DACA extension with none of the Bridge Act language, the Temporary Protected Status Program fix for three years isn’t actually a fix or for three years as it excludes all African countries, funding for the various border security initiatives and the Maga-Dope Line, and a major revision to the Immigration Act that narrows and restricts asylum.

The bill that McConnell will bring to the floor outside of regular order – no committee and/or sub-committee drafting, markup, debate, and/or vote – appears to have been written by Stephen Miller. On Saturday I wrote that neither the President nor Senator McConnell could be trusted to negotiate in good faith. The bill that McConnell is going to bring to the floor is a prime example of why they can’t. I’m relatively sure McConnell agreed to this so that he can use it to provide the President with more ammunition to blame the Democrats. I would be very surprised if he releases any of the members of the GOP caucus in the Senate from the whip with the exception, perhaps, of Senator Murkowski. The point of this exercise appears to be:

Make it look like like Mitch McConnell is actually doing something.

Set up a vote on a bait and switch bill where all the Democrats vote no, all the Republicans vote yes, so the bill dies because it can’t clear the 60 vote cloture threshold.

Blame Democrats for being unwilling to meet the President halfway, accept a compromise offered in good faith, and, as a result keep the government shutdown.

Continue to blame the shutdown on Democratic intransigence.

Continue to work the political reporters in the news media so they won’t report on this accurately because the granular details are boring.

Allowing McConnell to escape any blame and be rewarded once again for having no compunction in being an unfaithful interlocutor who has no compunction, and faces no consequences, for breaking every norm, violating every tradition, and stretching every rule and law to breaking in order to achieve his own objectives.

“James Baldwin thinks MLK’s dream can be fulfilled if we all work together…”

He might not think that if he were around today.

I sure as hell don’t. Whatever idealism I once had has been lost in that long tunnel of time.

      Just look around.
