Breaking: Mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand

What we know so far…..

A gunman has entered the crowded Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand at about 1.45pm local time.

A second shooting has been confirmed at Linwood Masjid in Linwood, Christchurch.

Multiple fatalities have been confirmed.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed that one person was in custody, but they were still treating it as an “active shooter” situation.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden said it was “one of New Zealand’s darkest days”.

Multiple people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at two mosques in New Zealand, sparking a hunt for an “active” shooter in the South Island town of Christchurch.

New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed that police had apprehended one person, but police were unsure if there were other gunmen.

    What we know about the terror attack suspect

    One person has been charged with murder in connection with the terror attack on two mosques in New Zealand that left at least 49 people dead.

    Here’s what we know about the suspect:

    He is 28 years old.

    Just before the attack, an account believed to belong to the gunman posted a link to an 87-page white nationalist manifesto online. The unsigned manifesto is filled with anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiments, as well as explanations for an attack.

    In the manifesto, he identifies himself as a white man, born in Australia, and lists the white nationalists who have inspired him.

    He will appear in court Saturday morning local time.
