Hundreds of Former Justice Officials Assert Trump Would be Facing Felony Charges If He Were Not President

Washington (CNN)Hundreds of former Justice Department officials said in an open letter released Monday that President Donald Trump would be facing multiple felony charges stemming from the Russia investigation if he were not President.

The letter posted online by Justice Department alumni, who served under presidents from both parties, said the report from special counsel Robert Mueller contained repeated instances of Trump committing obstruction of justice, and that he would have been charged with obstructionif he was not protected as President by an opinion from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel that Mueller cited.
“We believe strongly that, but for the OLC memo, the overwhelming weight of professional judgment would come down in favor of prosecution for the conduct outlined in the Mueller Report,” the letter read.

The letter was posted to Medium and said it was being updated by the group Protect Democracy, a nonprofit group that has combated the Trump administration. CNN has reached out to Protect Democracy regarding the letter.

The letter was signed by officials from a wide-range of backgrounds, and included former US attorneys and other top officials from both parties.

The Washington Post, which previously reported on the letter, which said signatories to the letter included officials whose time in government included every administration since President Dwight Eisenhower..

Yes, he would have been charged. It was laid out, in order, in the Mueller Report.

 

From the letter:

We are former federal prosecutors. We served under both Republican and Democratic administrations at different levels of the federal system: as line attorneys, supervisors, special prosecutors, United States Attorneys, and senior officials at the Department of Justice. The offices in which we served were small, medium, and large; urban, suburban, and rural; and located in all parts of our country.

Each of us believes that the conduct of President Trump described in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report would, in the case of any other person not covered by the Office of Legal Counsel policy against indicting a sitting President, result in multiple felony charges for obstruction of justice.

The Mueller report describes several acts that satisfy all of the elements for an obstruction charge: conduct that obstructed or attempted to obstruct the truth-finding process, as to which the evidence of corrupt intent and connection to pending proceedings is overwhelming.

This has to be brought forth. This has to be made plain. The crimes of this man must continue to be put forth in front of the American people. He is a criminal and is running a crime syndicate from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. His very presence is an offense to the Constitution of the United States.

      The reason why they don’t get it is because they have spent most of the time since January 2017, trying to find the PIVOT…the ‘moment where Dolt45 became President’. They have spent all their time trying to downplay his hideousness. They have been desperate TO normalize him…so, of course, their unwillingess to admit what a phucking nightmare that he is…that people just want normal back.       Okay, I’m mostly trying to not say much about the Democratic candidates.

      But as for Biden, he’s been in politics a long time, living in that bubble. And that means he’s been around long enough to be on both sides of a lot of issues. And it’s bound to hurt him. He was a good VP for PBO, and that’s to his credit, to be sure. But on the negative side is his age and for me, it’s a non-starter.

      II came from a LARGE rural farm family, in segregated Southern MD. My dad was a sharecropper & later gained employment at the Locker (meat-packing) plant., my mom did domestic work, and ran our home.

      He raised a large garden and livestock, and he and my brothers were hunters. So we never went hungry.

      WE ARE BLACK, RURAL WORKING CLASS AMERICANS. My parents had an 8th grade education, but gave us the 411 on education, it’s value, to move forward. I was the first to

      Nobody gave us a DAMN thing. We worked hard and earned our living.

      My and most of the black families were moderate to conservative in LIVING OUR LIVES. We didn’t have the luxury of claiming labels, as enough of them were constantly being thrown at us.

      In our family & neighborhoods, everything in moderation and conserving what we had in the way of our basic survival needs, our morals & ethics, good commons sense, protecting our families..

        Finish sentence from above: I was the first of 11 children to go to college. I was married, and had 2 daughters, and my father still paid for my college EDUCATION. He kept his promise, that if any of us worked hard, made the grades, he’d pay our tuition.

        So when I hear these coal miners and other so-called working class white folks yammering about where are the jobs, etc., when the fucking jobs are not coming back. And no one is telling these folks to move the fuck on, get some vocational skills, more education and training.

    I get it, I really do, the dog whistle has become “working people”. But think about that! Why would we accept that? It’s 1. not true, and 2. not the reality of the Democratic base in the midwest. It completely disappears a huge chunk of working people by twinning “working” with “white and male” AND ignores our actual voters.

    Reject the premise. It’s wrong and it helps Republican candidates and hurts Democratic candidates.       I love my black primary care doctor because I know he really cares about me and my health. When I first began seeing him, my A1C reading was in the 13-14 range. After running the tests, he came into the exam room, sat on the rolling stool, got right up in my face so he could look me in my eyes and said, “Margie, We’re not doing dialysis. All I ever see in dialysis centers are mainly black people, and you’re not going to end up on dialysis or have heart problems. There’s no need for these things to happen to you, It’s all about the care you receive from your primary care doctor.” I knew he was telling me, without saying it outright, that there are quite a few doctors who don’t really care about black persons’ health issues. I knew from that moment going forward that he meant business. My A1C readings have been hitting 6.5 and below. I completely changed my diet. I watch every morsel that goes into my mouth, and when grocery shopping, I read the product labels. If a food item has too much sugar, too much sodium, and too many carbs, I leave it in the store, no matter how much I crave it.
