Wednesday Open Thread | Call Them What They Are: BRIBES! Emoluments Clause, Anyone?😠😠

Just let this have been 44 getting $2 from ANY foreign government, and Fox News would have been doing an EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE course in every segment.
And, let’s be clear – this is about the EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE…
The Constitution was ready for someone like Dolt45. What the Founding Fathers never saw coming was that one political party would throw their lot in with TRAITORS and betray their Oath of Office.
But, these foreign governments want SOMETHING from Dolt45, and we have a right to know what American policies have been affected because of these BRIBES.

Reps of 22 foreign governments have spent money at Trump properties
The number of foreign governments hints at a significant foreign cash flow to the U.S. president that critics say violates the Constitution.

WASHINGTON — Representatives of at least 22 foreign governments appear to have spent money at Trump Organization properties, an NBC News review has found, hinting at a significant foreign cash flow to the American president that critics say violates the U.S. Constitution.
The extent and amount of foreign spending at Trump’s hotels, golf clubs and restaurants is not known, because the Trump Organization is a private company and declines to disclose that information. Trump promised to donate any profits from foreign governments, and the Trump Organization has sent $343,000 to the U.S. Treasury for 2017 and 2018. The company did not release underlying numbers to support that figure.
Amid two lawsuits accusing Trump of accepting illegal foreign payments, NBC News sought to compile the most comprehensive possible list of foreign spending at Trump properties based on information in the public record. In June 2018, a report by the watchdog group Public Citizen came up with 10 foreign governments that had spent money at Trump venues. More information has since become public.
A spokeswoman for the Trump Organization did not respond to a request for comment by NBC News.

Ta-Nehisi Coates dismantles Mitch McConnell’s excuse for opposing reparations on live TV
“For a century after the Civil War, black people were subjected to a relentless campaign of terror, a campaign that extended well into the lifetime of Mitch McConnell.”
    JUN 19, 2019, 2:19 PM

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Committee held a hearing on the issue of slavery reparations, the first time in over a decade members of Congress formally broached the subject.

Among those invited to testify before the committee was Ta-Nehisi Coates, the author, journalist, and academic whose 2014 essay in The Atlantic outlined the case in favor of reparations and reignited a national conversation on the matter.

One day before the hearing, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he would oppose any effort to pursue reparations by Congress, and suggested black Americans should be thankful because Barack Obama was president.

“I don’t think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago for whom none of us currently living are responsible is a good idea,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

“For a century after the Civil War, black people were subjected to a relentless campaign of terror, a campaign that extended well into the lifetime of Mitch McConnell,” said Coates.

“We grant that Mr. McConnell was not alive for Appomattox,” said Coates. “But he was alive for the electrocution of George Stinney. He was alive for the blinding of Isaac Woodard…He was alive for the redlining of Chicago, and the looting of black homeowners of some four billion dollars. Victims of that plunder are very much alive today. I’m sure they would love a word with the majority leader.”

Can’t make some of this stuff up..

  4. Hey Chicas! Your thoughts? Help me out here, y’all.

I asked someone yesterday, do you think there’d be police reform if Joe Biden becomes president? I asked because Joe Biden is an old white man who still have hang ups about crimes committed is mostly done by black people. I’m trying to sort this thing out & it’s troubling for me.

I dunno SG2, but, it’s more than fair for people to press this issue. This is an absolute REAL issue. And, if he wants for people to get past the ‘history’ of the 1994 Crime Bill, then he’s going to have to act like he understands the anger and real demands that we expect in 2019. Without a clear cut plan, and verbalization of said plan, this is an issue. And, it’s real. And, it’s called vetting. And, it’s something that WE have the right to demand from a Democratic Party Nominee.

    • Liza says:

Same as Rikyrah. But I would say that if he goes for too long without addressing it, then there is reason for concern.

    • Liza says:

Also, Julian Castro is rapidly becoming my favorite candidate (possibly a curse because my favorites never seem to win).

But here’s the thing. He’s willing to step up and speak to controversial issues, the kinds of issues (such as police brutality) that Democrats are terrified to make a stand on because of the “white working class”.

So what does that say about Julian Castro? It says a lot more than he’s willing to take on controversial issues. It says something about his character, judgement, compassion, and ability to lead.

I am sick of spineless wimps. How many people are supposed to die or be maimed by cops until we collectively decide it’s too many? How many videos do we need? How much evidence must be collected? How many graves have to be dug? How many families devastated?

Castro realizes that the time has come for this to be put front and center.

If only black people would accept personal responsibility for their actions and teach their children how to behave better, then we wouldn’t have all this controversy. Geraldo Rivera even explained that the children killed by police brutality were actually committing “urban suicide” and proposed that—instead of protesting by wearing an “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirt—Lebron James could help solve the problem by wearing a “Raise Your Children” tee.

    Yes, he actually said that.

    On television.

They believe this, too. After all, the religion of right can see God’s grace in America’s spacious skies, her purple mountains’ majesty and her liberty and justice for all. This is a country that gives everyone what they deserve, and if you fall short, then it must be your fault.

    Unless you are white.

If you are white, then America is the land of “second chances”—especially if you are a white child. Simply by being born with white skin, this sweet land of liberty a bequeaths you an endless supply of mulligans.

Take, for instance, the case of Kyle Kashuv, who survived the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman-Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., became a conservative, pro-gun advocate and was subsequently accepted to Harvard University.

    The Root’s Dara Sharif writes:

On Monday, Kashuv shared his astonishment that Harvard had rescinded his admission because of his use of racial slurs in texts he sent two years ago, HuffPost reports.

The texts included repeated use of the word “nigger,” including the uhm, observation: “like im really good at typing nigger ok like practice uhhhhhh makes perfect son??!!”

HuffPost reported last month on the existence of the racist messages, for which Kashuv, now 18, apologized, saying: “We were 16-year-olds making idiotic comments, using callous and inflammatory language in an effort to be as extreme and shocking as possible.”

But in a case where actions seem to have had consequences, Harvard apparently decided to nix Kashuv’s acceptance into the Class of 2023.

The news immediately riled up the entire class of conservative punditry. The New York Times’ Caucasian apologist editorial staff rang the alarm and dispatched columnist David Brooks to explain why this innocent little sayer-of-racist-shit should be excused from his actions.
