Sidney Powell Believes She Can Bullshyt Emmet Sullivan At No Risk to Her Client Mike Flynn

In her filing responding to Judge Sullican’s orders for an update on sentencing, Mike Flynn’s lawyer Sidney Powell makes it clear that she’s trying to blow up the government’s case against Bijan Kian while pretending her client hasn’t outright reneged on his cooperation deal with the government. Largely, her filing repeats the claims she made her in her Bijan Kian filing, claiming that any errors in the FARA filing were the faule of Covington, while providing documents showing that at the very last transcribed meeting they provide records for, Flynn was lying to his lawyer Rob Keiner.

    • Liza says:

Hmmmm. Well, I’ve been forming an opinion on this perhaps overly influenced by what I’ve seen in my own congressional district.

After Trump “won” the electoral vote, I remember all this discussion about how younger Democrats should step up and run for public office. Well, some of them took this seriously and a few of them won their elections. And to my way of thinking, that is a good thing.

But hell yes, they are different. They are not like the old folks. They haven’t lived inside political bubbles for decades and learned the prevailing rule that “those who go along get along” in political worlds and especially in Congress.

Just listen to Joe Biden. The reason he sounds so out of touch is because he is. And his “go along get along” Senate record of 36 years doesn’t look too good now that we are 19 years into the 21st century. And the more scrutiny it gets, the worse it will look.

I’m not seeing any of this as progressive v. moderate or elite white v. non-white or racist v, non-racist. What I’m mostly seeing young v. old.

I understand Nancy Pelosi’s position. She’s in the fight of her life and would be thankful for peace within the Democratic leadership so she can deal with Trump. And she’s under pressure from the base for not starting the impeachment process.

But the times they are a changin’ and nothing stops that unless we lose our democracy altogether. Sooner or later, the younger leaders are going to take over. A few of them have already arrived. They are different and some are apparently not going to keep their heads down and toe the line for the elderly Democratic leaders.

In my congressional district (AZ-CD2), the Democratic party leadership rammed Ann Kirkpatrick down our throats. Quite a few candidates stepped up, but the party leadership decided that an elderly DINO, someone who once bragged she had an A rating from the NRA, would be just right for us. Well, she won, it was an easy election that any reasonable Democratic candidate could have won. So now she’s our rep, she keeps her head down and toes the line and enjoys the perks of being in Congress. What more could an old lady want? It doesn’t do much for her district, or the state of Arizona, or the nation, but it’s what the party leadership wants.

I have no idea why @AOC became such an attention magnet. She’s getting far too much attention in my opinion. But we’ve seen her at work doing some excellent interrogations and I have to believe she’s a talented, hard worker and I see no sense at all in this rift that is developing. It needs to stop.

I don’t know about the other three representatives but one thing we know for certain is that no Democrat is supposed to say anything against Israel. And that might be difficult if one is a Muslim or a Palestinian or both. That is a sacred rule of the Democratic party.

But this argument needs to end.

      • Liza says:

Speaking of “go along get along”…

I have a HUGE, major, astronomical problem with anyone who voted in favor of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. That isn’t hindsight. There was plenty of information available to the general public as well as members of Congress that there was no justification for the invasion.

That was a fear vote. Fear of losing votes in the next election. And it was bullsh!t, pure and unadulterated. A perfect example of “go along get along”, jumping off a cliff with your peers rather than doing what is right.

Look at Iraq now. Look at everything that has happened in the mid east since 2003 because of that invasion.

We can’t keep doing this. The world is not ours to play with. People have rights, not just Americans, people everywhere.

      • Liza says:

Joe Biden was an enthusiastic supporter. There’s no explaining this away even though I think he should be forced to try during the next debate and the next and the next…

Congress Members Who Voted Against the 2002 Iraq War
Names of the 23 Senators and 133 House Members
        Updated May 25, 2019

The directionless Iraq War has killed over 4,100 US soldiers and wounded or maimed more than 200,000 more and has delivered a devastating blow to our country’s reputation and moral authority.

It’s time we honor the members of Congress who voted in 2002 to prevent the Bush administration’s hasty rush into an unprovoked attack and occupation of Iraq.

The dramatic, much-debated vote on Joint Resolution 114 was taken on October 11, 2002. It passed the Senate by a vote of 77 to 23, and the House of Representatives by a vote of 296 to 133.

Term limits are a bad idea when Democrats push for them, too
    07/12/19 11:20 AM
    By Steve Benen

Progressive billionaire Tom Steyer is the latest candidate to enter the Democratic presidential primary, and yesterday, he unveiled a political-reform plan with some worthwhile ideas, including independent redistricting commissions and allowing more Americans to vote by mail.

But Steyer’s blueprint also included this:

“There’s a widespread perception that the longer an elected official serves in Congress, the less connected they are to their constituents – and the more beholden they become to corporate interests and lobbyists. We propose a term limit of 12 total years that would allow our elected officials in both the House and Senate to focus less on getting re-elected and more on doing what’s right.”

    ………………………….

What’s more, as we also discussed a few years ago, there’s an underlying principle to consider: there’s simply no reason for the federal government to impose arbitrary constraints on voters’ ability to choose their own members of Congress – constraints that punish popular, experienced officials for being popular and experienced.

We already have term limits. They’re called elections. The mechanism for change was built into the Constitution from the outset: voters can evaluate their members of Congress when they run for re-election. If the public is satisfied, those lawmakers stay in office. If not, they’re replaced with someone else. The power is where it belongs: in the hands of the electorate.

    • WTF kind of shyt is this?

      • majiir says:

You and I both know exactly what kind of shyt this is because it’s often called ‘white folks’ shyt.” It’s no secret that in America, some of us can get away with doing certain things others cannot do. When others do the same thing, they’ve vilified 24/7/365, but people like Trump & Co. can do them, and no one blinks an eye or raises a voice against it. Those of us who do are often shouted down, told we’re crazy, or we’re ‘playing the race card.’ Millions of Americans have lost what supposed Christian values they ever laid claim to in order to support a racist, misogynistic, bigot, ignorant, posturing POS like Trump. God has something in store for them, and they won’t like it one bit. I wasn’t appalled to read that over 60% of Trump’s supporters think there’s absolutely nothing wrong at all with locking up little kids and denying them the basic necessities of life. According to the article I read, the general feeling seems to be the following: They aren’t my kids, and they never should have crossed the border illegally. They forget that when they were kids and their parents made decisions, they went along with them because that’s what their parents told them to do. I hope they end up like my mama and daddy used to say: “They’ll die and bust hell wide open.” Everybody talking about heaven ain’t going there.
