Good Morning. I hope that you are enjoying this weekend with family and friends. Today I thought that we would remember Black American Trailblazer Jessye Norman, who passed away this week at the age of 74.

I meant to post this a few days ago, some details of a killing that Amber Guyger’s cop/boyfriend was involved in back in 2007. Shot a 20 yr old black man in the head and killed him, he was suspected of stealing a candy bar. Brandon Washington was his name.

Dallas police Officer Martin Rivera took the stand this week in the Amber Guyger trial, where prosecutors revealed that he and Guyger, his former police partner, had an on-again, off-again sexual relationship.

Rivera has something else in common with Guyger: The 17-year DPD veteran also shot and killed an unarmed man.

On March 22, 2007, Rivera shot 20-year-old Brandon Washington outside a Pleasant Grove convenience store, where the man was eating an allegedly stolen candy bar.

On Wednesday, Brandon’s mother, Antoinette Washington, joined a midday news conference in downtown Dallas by Mothers Against Police Brutality to demand that the death of her son be re-investigated.

She said she felt ill after seeing Rivera testify that he deleted his texts with Guyger after the shooting.

“It blew my mind to see him in another case,” she said. “I knew he was no good then. Justice has failed.”

Washington described her son as a goofy young man who loved to have fun and pull pranks. She said he didn’t have a violent history and had gotten in trouble only for criminal trespass. His nickname was “Lil Wimp” because as a baby, he couldn’t lift himself up as he crawled.

The night he was killed, Washington was suspected by a clerk of shoplifting a candy bar at a convenience store on Lake June Road in Pleasant Grove, according to news reports.

When Washington was slow to take his hands out of his pockets, Rivera shot him once in the head and leg, police records say. He died later.

No weapon was recovered from Washington, according to news reports at the time. The item in his pocket was a cellphone, his mother said.

A grand jury looked at the case, and Rivera was not charged with a crime.

      Lawlessness. Everywhere you look.

      Absolute lawlessness.

I’m going to bet they never find the killer.

Joshua Brown, the next door neighbor of #BothamJean was killed last night after being shot several times by an unknown assailant. Local media has reported on the shooting but have not confirmed Brown’s identity. Because, Brown worked closely with prosecutors just a week ago to ensure Amber Guyger was properly convicted in the murder trial, the DA’s office has fairly direct contact with Brown and his family. An ADA has confirmed that it was in fact Brown who was killed although they have yet to identify a suspect or motive for the shooting. The case is now in the hands of the Dallas Police Department. Brown’s testimony stood out as a fact witness who was approaching his apartment directly across from Botham Jean’s apartment when shots rang out. Brown was still visibly shaken up from the incident when he took the stand to testify on behalf of the prosecution. His murder underscores the reality of the black experience in America. A former athlete turned entrepreneur— Brown lived in constant fear that he could be the next victim of gun violence, either state sanctioned or otherwise. We have more work to do deal with the constant threats to our community both from within and without. Brown deserves the same justice he sought to ensure the Jean family. The Dallas County criminal justice system must mobilized to identify his killer and see that he is held accountable for this murder.

Folks need to fund a GIANT REWARD to catch the killer(s).

This kind of lawlessness cannot prevail.

Brazen lawlessness. They wasted no time executing the hit.

We can’t have people living in fear and being murdered for testifying at murder trials especially when the defendant is a cop (which doesn’t happen all that often.)

    • I’m feeling despair and so much pain. Poor Joshua Brown! This was a HIT.

  4. My sister in law cooked this last night. Fried fish, shrimp, broccoli and rice, garden salad, pinto beans with ground beef and ham hocks. My sister in law fried all this fish and shrimp and she doesn’t like seafood. She made herself baked bbq wings. She hates fish but will fry it up for us. It’s all gone and I want some more more more.
