WATCH LIVE: Donald Trump Impeachment Hearings Day 3

Public hearings in the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump got under way last week and the proceedings continue in the House of Representatives Tuesday. There are two sets of hearings scheduled for Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT) and then continuing at 2:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. PT).

The first session will include testimony from Jennifer Williams, Vice President Mike Pence’s advisor on Europe and Russia, and Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who was on the line for Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The afternoon includes testimony from Kurt Volker, former special representative to Ukraine, and Tim Morrison, the National Security Council’s outgoing senior director of European and Russian affairs. Morrison was a deputy assistant to the president and was also on the July 25 call. You can learn more about the upcoming witnesses at CBS News.

The Democrats are investigating whether Trump should be removed from office over his conduct in dealings with Ukraine. That includes a phone call in July where he appears to have asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former US Vice President Joe Biden, currently a Democratic presidential candidate, and his son Hunter’s ties to a Ukrainian gas company, in exchange for US military aid.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opened a formal impeachment inquiry in September. She has since accused the president of bribery. Trump has called the inquiry a “hoax.” Full coverage of the impeachment hearings can be found here.

What time does it start?

The first hearing is expected to start at 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT) on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Who’s expected to appear?

Jennifer Williams, Vice President Mike Pence’s advisor on Europe and Russia, and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who was on the line for President Donald Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukranian president Volodymyr Zelensky, will appear in the first session.

Tuesday afternoon’s hearing will include testimony from Kurt Volker, former special representative to Ukraine, and Tim Morrison, the National Security Council’s outgoing senior director of European and Russian affairs. Morrison was a deputy assistant to the president and was also on the July 25 call.

Volker is a great example of how Trump corrupts people. I’m sure he convinced himself that his actions were appropriate as long as he maintained this fiction, but in fact he was giving in when he should’ve fought back. t.co/OwQ20788bv

So, the Republicans picked two of the witnesses, and one of them is currently testifying that Joe Biden is an honorable man, and that the allegations against him and his family are false. Killing it, guys.— Jon Favreau (@jonfavs) November 19, 2019

  4. rikyrah says:

Volker, who is a Republican witness, just rejected a main GOP talking point that Joe Biden and his son should be investigated for son’s ties to Burisma energy firm.

Kurt Volker is distancing himself from the “Three Amigos” designation, that allegedly includes Amb. Gordon Sondland and Secretary Rick Perry. He says he was under the impression that they were all independently pursuing the goal of ushering in an era of reforms in Ukraine.

  6. rikyrah says:

Side note: Schiff and Goldman have timed these hearings well. Volker has been cornered into reversing on all the issues the GOP loved him for, which will further corner Sondland tomorrow.

The likely reason Trump is claiming he doesn’t know Lt. Col Vindman is because the tool thought former Nunes aide, Kash Patel, was the top advisor to the NSC on Ukraine. Patel had/s an unusual amount of access to influence Trump for a NSC aide. Lt. Col. Vindman testified that when he went to brief Trump on Ukraine, staffers wouldn’t let him because Patel had already briefed Trump. Based on what I read, staffers were afraid if Lt. Col. Vindman talked to Trump, it would confuse Trump. I can’t imagine a POTUS not knowing who his top advisors are, or of WH staffers expressing a fear a president would be confused by having a conversation with an actual advisor.

  9. Here comes the jerk. What insults and disrespect will Rep Mike Turner hurl at Patriot Lt. Colonel Vindman? #ImpeachmentHearings

Trump’s Enablers Launch an Attack on Reporter Natasha Bertrand
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    November 19, 2019

Anyone who has attempted to follow the lawless machinations of the current president knows what a valuable resource Natasha Bertrand has been—starting with her days as a reporter at The Atlantic and through her current position at Politico. That’s why it didn’t really surprise me to see one of Trump’s chief enablers go after her on Twitter recently.

Do not trust this so-called “reporter.” She’s an IC embed, a stenographer for Brennan & Comey. Their surrogates are spoon-feeding her the “national security” stories she’s now “reporting” @ POLITICO. She’s a political-intel operative posing as a journalisthttps://t.co/KHcFNHGiAC

    — Paul Sperry (@paulsperry_) November 15, 2019

    ……………………………….

But perhaps Sperry had a heads-up on a story that broke on Monday. Politico is being sued by a White House aide due to reporting by Bertrand. That was the banner story at Fox News by Howard Kurtz.

The impeachment inquiry against President Trump has triggered a wave of charges, countercharges, court battles, subpoenas and legal threats.

Now it has produced its first libel suit.

Kash Patel, the National Security Council’s senior counterterrorism director, is seeking more than $25 million in damages in the suit filed in Virginia. We have reached out to Politico for comment.

The lawsuit also names Natasha Bertrand, a Politico reporter and MSNBC contributor, as well as Politico owner Robert Allbritton. The allegations, which center on what the president was told about the situation in Ukraine, go to the heart of the case for impeachment.

    ………………………

That last line is a bit of overkill, because Patel’s story is simply a sideshow. He was a long time staffer for Representative Devin Nunes prior to joining the White House in February of this year. Last month, Bertrand reported that, according to Fiona Hill’s deposition, Patel “was so involved in the issue that at one point Trump thought he was in charge of Ukraine policy for the National Security Council.”

  13. Devin Nunes is so embarrassing with these conspiracy theories? My God! Make it stop! #ImpeachmentHearings
