Open Thread | So, Today Is the Iowa Caucus

One of the most UNdemocratic practices.
This isn’t the GOP.
This is the Democratic Party. And, there is no reason for a Lily-White and rural state should have ANY kind of influence on the Democratic Party Primary.
If they meant right, it would be a PRIMARY.
If they meant halfway right, if they needed to do a Caucus, they could have it on the weekend.

But, they don’t mean right.
2024, this has got to end. No more of two Lily -White states going first.

And, then, the thought…
The thought that Black folk in the South and elsewhere should take their lead from what Iowa and New Hampshire do?!😒😒

 Naw….I don’t think so😒😒

The folks who haven’t fallen for the bright shiny objects of this election season are supposed to follow the lead of those who have?😒😒

Once again I say…

The goal of the Democratic Party should be to get out the base. The ACTUAL base of the party. To make sure that ACTUAL Democratic Party voters are not denied the franchise due to Voter Suppression😠😠😠

We sure in Hell don’t need to chase people that don’t vote for Democrats.😒😒

 But, we have been finally getting some actual vetting of candidates.

    Truth. Stop and Frisk Mike the billionaire literally bought his way in. Now, he didn’t do well in Iowa but he’s gotten a fair amount of media attention. I don’t know what he’s really up to but this is a problem.

    Iowa:

    So I guess the winner of the delegate count, Pete Buttigieg currently ahead, will be declared the winner of Iowa.

    But what they’re saying is all precincts are not created equal and the rural areas get a disproportionate number of delegates which is helping Pete.

    Iowa has gotta go as the first state. This is just not working.

    If the first state were California we would know a whole hell of a lot more about the electorate than having Iowa and New Hampshire go first and second.

      I really thought Biden would do better with all the white elderly folks who showed up. Of course, damn near everyone in Iowa is white.

      I’m wondering if all this business with Trump did actually affect Joe’s numbers.

    Steve Kornacki is just giddy about Pete Buttigieg but he won’t be the nominee. Iowa ain’t deciding ANYTHING. Iowa doesn’t represent the diversity of the Democratic Party.

    This irks me. Is irk a word, I’m not sure? Anyhow, Sanders is ahead in the vote count and always has been, first and second rounds. Pete is winning the delegate count.

    Regardless of how anyone might feel about Sanders, if the guy is winning then report THAT. The delegate count is secondary to the vote count. Why in the blazes do they have to spin everything until they like it?

      Random thought:

      Pete has been doing the best in the second round, gaining more votes than others. I wonder if he’s benefiting from their being so old. As in, second choice is the young guy because at least he won’t drop dead in his first term if elected.

    The media erased @JulianCastro and fluffed up small town mayor Pete Buttigieg. Julian Castro was mayor of a town of 1.4 million. Buttigieg 150.000. Let the media tell it… 150,000 is greater than 1.4 million.

    Julian Castro should STILL be in the race.

      Julian Castro might be a couple of elections ahead of his time, but I do believe he is viable. Hopefully, we’ll have a Democratic president and JC will be part of the administration giving him another stepping stone.

      He was my favorite too.

      Dear God, this is beyond tragic. Beautiful young woman with her whole life ahead.

      I hope the US Marshall does some serious time for vehicular manslaughter. No one should drive drunk but you would think a US Marshall would hold himself to a higher standard.
