I agree with Ms. Ifill that this is a “stunning piece,” it is one of the most profound op-eds I’ve read in a long time.

Everyone needs to read this. The author’s rage is in every paragraph from start to finish, never concealed or subtle, yet his writing is absolutely eloquent. Not an easy thing to do.

It’s fairly long, I printed it.

So this morning I went for a walk with my dog and noticed that some kids had written positive messages on the sidewalk in chalk. I know who it was, a couple of little girls probably around 12 or 13 yrs old.

They think it’s black people plus the elderly in nursing homes and criminals in prison.

    The White Privilege to Terrorize

As a white man watching the Michigan protests of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home orders, all I could think was:

Black people don’t get to do this.
Muslims don’t get to do this.
Latinos don’t get to do this.
People who don’t look like this don’t get to do this.

They don’t get to swarm American capitol buildings in tactical gear with high-powered weapons, screaming in close proximity to police officers.
They don’t get to dress up like Call of Duty cosplayers and attempt to physically intimidate politicians into bending to their wills.
They don’t get to get to stop traffic in city streets decked out like they work at the Death Star and brazenly wield semi-automatic rifles.
They don’t get to terrorize decent people and walk away.

Only white people get to do this.

LarryO had on an academic who said that the nation’s academic labs could be utilized as a testing infrastructure. That, by using them, we could exponentially grow our capacity for COVID-19 testing.

My four-legged baby, Penelope, knocks on the storm door when she wants to come inside. She’s not only smart, she’s cunning. I tend to cook breakfast everyday. On yesterday, I fixed her food, but because she thought I was going to cook breakfast, she wouldn’t eat it. I just couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t eating. A few hours later, I cooked some hotdogs and chili for my daughter and myself. Penelope started eating what I’d fixed her earlier after she noticed I didn’t fix her hotdogs and chili. My daughter told me the reason Penelope didn’t eat what I’d fixed for her earlier was because she was exploring her options! She said Penelope was thinking I’d follow the usual routine of fixing breakfast yesterday and was trying to see if she could substitute what I gave her at first for something else! She still got the hotdogs, the cunning prima donna. Penelope has the nerve to catch attitude if she thinks we’re laughing at her, and she holds a hard grudge. To punish us, she hides out under the coffee table in the family room and pouts and won’t have anything to do with us until we coax her out with food or a treat. She really needs a job.

She sounds like a lot of fun. My dog is really smart too, she’s a border collie mix. I actually prefer smart dogs even though they are definitely more work.
