I don’t really remember the first time that I came upon Marcus Johnson on Twitter. But, he was young, Black, and his droll commentary just cracked me up. Folks were all involved and upset about the Democratic Party Primary.
He did not move. He did not budge. He said it early and stuck with the following:
1. The Democratic Party Primary didn’t begin until South Carolina.
2. Whatever candidate won the South would win the nomination.
He never moved from those beliefs.
So, he is doing a post-mortem on the progressives, and what they did wrong:
The alt left is in meltdown mode because they know if Biden wins the $$$$ game is up. No more major media interviews, no more relevancy. It was never about socialism, it was about power and replacing the current Dem elites with themselves. Now Bernie is gone and its almost over.

The truth is that the Democratic Party is about coalitions. It is a heterogeneous party of many different factions that need to work together. The idea that white millennials pretending to be socialists would take over was always a joke. It was a silly idea from the start.

The future of the Democratic Party is POC and the suburbs, particularly in the sun belt. That’s where the interviews should be. Not in gentrified Brooklyn, but in Georgia, in South Carolina, in Arizona, in Virginia. The future of the Democratic Party is those voters.

Ignoring Black voters and the southern states in particular is why so many campaigns failed. Why so many media members got the primary wrong. They calculated as if Black southerners didn’t exist because in their social circles, they dont. Lack of diversity messes up your analysis

The “left” failed because there is no real socialist movement in the US, just white millennials upset they aren’t as wealthy as their parents. COVID-19 actually presents these people with an opportunity to build a real nonwhite working class movement. Will they do it? I doubt it.
