Here is the updated list of what I judge to be Obama’s most significant accomplishments in the less than 2 years since he was elected as President of the United States: As you read through this list, I ask you to weigh the totality of these achievements listed below against those accomplishments of Obama’s presidential predecessors, Democrats and Republicans, and then, after considering this, make your determination of whether you think he has done a good job.

1. Appointing two Supreme Court Justices: When people consider their presidential voting decision, most don’t consider that amongst the most important and enduring presidential responsibilities is the president’s ability to appoint supreme court justices. This is arguably a president’s biggest opportunity to influence his country, because Supreme Court justices sit until they retire or pass away, so the impact of his decision generally will last many decades beyond his years as president.  Obama has been fortunate enough to have two Supreme Court Justices retire in his first few years in office and he has managed to secure both of his nominations through wise selection and political skill.  He has added two Democrats, replacing two moderate Democrats in the process.  If a Republican has won the presidency instead, we would now be looking at an unbalanced Supreme Court with six conservatives and only three liberal judges – a balance that would have been in place for many many decades.  In the appointment process, Obama also introduced needed diversity to the bench with two more women on the court, bringing the count to a record three women sitting, while also introducing the nation’s first Hispanic to the Supreme Court with his choice of Sotomayor.

2. Passing Universal Healthcare: Obama accomplished what no prior Democrat could in expanding coverage to 32 million more Americans while simultaneously reducing the deficit by an estimated $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years. It delivers on every provision of the Patient Bill of Rights that Bill Clinton unsuccessfully tried to get passed, including making it illegal to deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and capping out of pocket expenses when people get sick (so people don’t go in to bankruptcy after getting ill).  It helps shift our medical system’s focus to preventative care by covering the cost of early warning tests so our doctors find diseases before they are too advanced – avoiding larger medical expenses down the road and requires the largest and richest American companies to provides insurance for all their employees.  It attempts to lower health care costs by forcing all Americans to have medical insurance and pay their fair share so the system is more efficient – similar to how all Americans need to have car insurance – while providing tax credits to help the poor and small businesses afford this coverage.  It increases competition by creating marketplace exchanges to make it easier for small businesses and those without insurance to shop and compare plans.  It funds co-ops who can offer competitive insurance plans and provide further competition for insurance companies.  It allows insurance companies to offer plans across state borders further increasing the supply of competitive plans.  It provides funding, infrastructure, and support to automate, digitize, and unify the country’s outdated medical information system reducing system-wide costs, improving care, and increasing productivity.  Perhaps most importantly, it sets up an independent commission of doctors and medical experts to identify and root out medical system waste, fraud, and abuse and includes many pieces of reform that will reduce the most wasteful medical system practices.

3. Financial industry reform: The most sweeping financial industry reform legislation since the Great Depression, this legislation tries to correct those industry issues that helped create the current recession we are still digging outselves out of.  It provides a system to allow the government to break apart large financial institutions that threaten the economy, creates a council of federal regulators to coordinate the detection of risks to the financial system, subjects a wider range of financial companies to government oversight, creates a Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection to help protect citizens from unscrupulous practices, and reins in banks’ ability to trade in risky financial instruments such as credit derivatives.

4. Preventing a 2nd Great Depression: While preventing a depression is not sexy and certainly is reactive, history may say that this is still one of his most important accomplishment to date.  The vast majority of economists and experts say that the nation had a high chance of slipping in to a Depression had this stimulus not passed along with the innovative actions of the Fed.  Obama has worked with Bernanke and the Fed, put a team of some of the best economic minds around him, helped save America’s 3 major car manufacturers from going out of business, passed the largest economic Stimulus Bill in the nation’s history, and executed other legislative changes to keep liquidity flowing in our economy, save jobs that would have otherwise been lost, and fund areas of our economy that are strategic and important for our long term economic competitiveness including health care, education, green energy, science, and infrastructure.

Of course, critics will say that the economy today is still sputtering, holds some risk of sliding back in to a recession, and that a real recovery will take many years.  These are all true statements and Obama has not moved us from a possible Depression to a fast growing economy – but this is a completely unrealistic, almost childish, expectation given the severity of the financial crisis, our current debt, and other economic realities that we have to deal with.  Could he have done more or done it differently?  Certainly.  I would have loved to see Obama do more, faster to invest in small businesses, help them get loans, and help them become more competitive with the large corporations that increasingly dominate our economy.  But today we are not in a horrible depression and things are stable and this alone is a tremendous accomplishment.

5. Bringing the war in Iraq to an end: Obama has reduced troops from a peak of 170,000 down to 50,000, with the remaining troops focused on training and recruiting Iraqi forces, rather than participating in combat.  With this news, Obama delivered on a campaign promise he made while bringing to an end a misguided, expensive, and costly war which served no clear purpose.  He also ensured that, in the process of wrapping up efforts in the region, he did so responsibly.  Iraq is not in utter chaos as it once was at the peak of the insurgency and it stands a chance of having a reasonable future and being a reasonably stable Democratic state in the Middle East.

6. Passed legislation to curb greenhouse gases and improve the environment: Obama implemented new regulations on power plants, factories, and oil refineries to limit greenhouse gas emissions and curb global warming, required energy producing plants to produce 15% of their energy from renewable sources, allowed states to enact federal fuel efficiency standards above federal standards, increased, for the first time in more than a decade, the fuel economy standards for Model Year 2011 for cars and trucks, funded investment in clean energy technologies through a combination of spending and tax breaks, signed an omnibus public lands bill, which allows for 2 million more acres to be declared wilderness, and issued a Presidential Memorandum to the Department of Energy to implement more aggressive efficiency standards for common household appliances, like dishwashers and refrigerators, which, over the next three decades, will save twice the amount of energy produced by all the coal-fired power plants in America in any given year.

7. Nuclear non-proliferation agreement: Obama met with 47 presidents in a 3 day nuclear summit to lower the nuclear weapons count with a treaty signed between US and Russia, putting the world back on a path to reducing nuclear warheads.

8. Repairing Our Image Abroad: After 8 years of damage to our country’s image, Obama has helped repair badly damaged relationships with foreign powers across the world from Russia to Europe and reached out to the Arab world.  This is necessary and critical in order for the most influential countries to work together to fight challenges such as Global Warming and Nuclear expansion.  It also helps to fight terrorist recruiting by helping change America’s negative image.  It is increasingly important for the US to engage with other countries as fast-growing nations like Brazil, China, and India join the traditional powerhouses and as America adjusts to a world with more diverse and influential players in the political equation.

9. Lifted Bush restrictions on embryonic stem cell research: Obama provided federal support for stem-cell and new biomedical research, helping make it easier for scientists to find cures for our most dangerous diseases.

10. Reversed George W. Bush’s ban on federal funding to foreign organizations that allow abortions.

11. Implemented education reforms: Made higher college more accessible and affordable through significant increases in scholarships and funding, funded early learning programs, and, most importantly, through an innovative program called Race to the Top, spurred reforms in state and local district K-12 education by providing states with incentives to make positive changes to their education systems.  Race to the Top prompted 48 states to adopt common standards for K-12.  Some notable changes prompted by the program include Illinois lifting a cap on the number of charter schools it allows, Massachusetts making it easier for students in low-performing schools to switch to charters, and West Virginia proposing a merit pay system that includes student achievement in its compensation calculations.

12. Tobacco regulation. On June 22, 2009, Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which, for the first time, gave the U.S. Food & Drug Administration the authority to regulate the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of tobacco.

Whereas my last assessment, made 8 months ago, on what Obama had done in office was subdued (”has not blown anyone over by his administrative record to date.  His most significant accomplishment, while a job well done, was primarily a reaction to the economic environment handed to him while his other accomplishments are relatively tactical.”), my conclusion today is completely different.  The list of his accomplishments are staggering for any US president – particularly when you compare him against our more recent US presidents.  Try to come up with a list of positive accomplishments by Clinton or both Bush presidents over their entire tenures and you won’t be able to count them on one hand.  Meanwhile, in less than 2 years, Obama has done what most had said was politically impossible and absolutely essential for us to maintain a competitive economy in the future (Universal health care), tackled highly challenging and comprehensive economic reforms (Financial industry reform), and stabilized a very troubling economy.

After all of these achievements, it will be interesting to see what else Obama can get done over the next few years of his first term.  Even if he did not achieve anymore legislative accomplishments during the remainder of his tenure, Obama will have had one of the most productive terms of any president in the history of our country.

President Obama signs the Tribal Law and Order Act, a law that gives tribal authorities greater authority to prosecute and punish criminals.

Lisa Marie Iyotte of the Rosebud Sioux tribe introduced President Obama at the bill signing ceremony. Iyotte works at the Sicangu Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, where she speaks on behalf of victimized Indian and Alaska Native women. She is also a sexual assault survivor who never saw her perpetrator brought to justice. Federal authorities declined to prosecute the crime or even interview her. (Her perpetrator was eventually arrested and convicted for assaulting another victim.) She said she is hopeful that the TLOA will prevent cases like hers from happening again.

President Obama signs historic food safety law

With the flick of a pen, President Obama signs a bill today that paves the way for the first major overhaul of the food safety system in the United States in nearly a century.

The bill, passed by Congress late last year, gives the Food and Drug Administration new authority to recall tainted food and step-up inspections of food processing facilities.

It exempts farms and producers making $500,000 or year or less but will require larger manufacturers to enact food safety plans and includes measures to increase the safety of food imports, which account for one-sixth of the nation’s food supply.

Iraq War: Last US Troops Leave Country

Huffington Post

KHABARI CROSSING, Kuwait — The last U.S. soldiers rolled out of Iraq across the border to neighboring Kuwait at daybreak Sunday, whooping, fist bumping and hugging each other in a burst of joy and relief. Their exit marked the end of a bitterly divisive war that raged for nearly nine years and left Iraq shattered, with troubling questions lingering over whether the Arab nation will remain a steadfast U.S. ally.

Kuwaiti and U.S. soldiers close the border gate after the last vehicle crossed into Kuwait during the US miltary’s withdrawal from Iraq December 18, 2011. The last convoy of U.S. soldiers pulled out of Iraq on Sunday, ending nearly nine years of war that cost almost 4,500 American and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives.

President Obama: Extending Payroll Tax Cut Is a “Boost We Need Right Now”

President Obama today signed into law a two month extension of the payroll tax cut, which means that 160 million American workers will not see their paychecks shrink starting Jan 1, 2012. The President thanked Congress for ending the stalemate and urged them to keep working to reach an agreement that extends this tax cut as well as unemployment insurance through all of 2012, saying it is the right thing to do for American families and for the economy, and called it “a boost that we very much need right now.”

The extension came after tens of thousands of working Americans turned to the internet to let politicians in Washington know just how much they were relying on that tax break, which amounts to about $40 per paycheck for a family making $50,000 a year, and the President acknowledged just how valuable their contributions had been to the conversation happening in the Capital:

There will always be specific differences of opinion however, let’s discuss this openly and specifically and not general degradation of our president. I feel embarrassed when our citizens post internationally on facebook and other communications, such extreme negative statements for other countries to read.

Please update it, it’s eye opening. People don’t realize how hard it is for any president to accomplish this, even the smallest reform is hard. And it is harder today because the president has so much to deal with and so little to work with. Thank you

I was Democrat and changed this past year to Republican, I am no longer Republican! I had been Democrat all my voting life, and as of this moment have returned to the Democratic party.
Thank you Mr. President for all your hard work. Admittedly I do not entirely agree with everything, but by far you have accomplished more than any president in American history.

BUT, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to do something about the absurd amount of debt the USA is carrying! If America’s economy collapsed, we’d probably all be done for! China would be rubbing its hands with glee! The head is not meant to be buried in the sand Barack! The democratic world wants to see the USA as a shining light of what true prosperity can look like! The last time I felt such pride and satisfaction with a president was during the second term of FDR.
Having been around almost 80 years, and totally immersed in American politics, this is wonderful for me. Having a president that is steady, cool under pressure, as smart as they come, and the patience and inner strength of a modern day Jackie Robinson! HOW LUCKY WE ARE!
And my hope for the future? Four more years for Obama…..followed by Hillary Clinton for 8 years. Maybe by then the GOP will have either cleaned up its shameful act OR gone to hell never to be heard from again! (personally, I prefer the “gone to hell” choice!)

Thank you so much Mr. President! I am legitimately afraid of my future and the futures of everyone that I love if Romney wins. I don’t know how anyone could vote for him. I don’t understand how women are supporting him. How some of our military men are supporting him. How the 47% he trashed is supporting him. I don’t understand how anyone who ISN’T the 1% is supporting him. It’s sad, but I assume most of it is racism and/or too much fox news.

47. Brad says:

I find myself shaking my head nightly as I watch the news and the polls. How could this possibly be a close race? Anyone who bothers to actually look, listen and learn about what’s happening and why we’re where we are can’t possibly want to remove or President from office. He has done an amazing job in an impossible situation. I thank God everyday that we elected him and pray that we will again…

48. edward lazarus says:

And now….some 43 days from the election, the Romney people ask the question: “Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?”
The answer is “ABSOLUTELY, YES!” By every measure there has been steady progress, and the prospects for four more years of genuine progress look good! No change in leadership need be considered. In fact, no viable alternative has been offered. And there is no American alive today–(with the possible exception of a couple of politicians named Clinton)–that could do as good a job as THIS EXCELLENT PRESIDENT, BARACK OBAMA!
And there is no telling what another four years of Obama might do to the blood pressure, digestive system, and susceptibility of massive stroke for Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck, Coulter, Limbaugh, and the rest of the assorted scum that self identify as having the diseased minds of republicans!
Who knows? Maybe a few of them will soon join Breitbart! How joyous would that be? How cleansing for America?

53. Rev. Mary Virginia Flynn says:

Thank you and God Bless you all for your informative list of President Obama’s accomplishments. I gladly needed the entire, most commendable work that you have done for all of my children. Why? They, like so many Americans have been vulnerable to the negative diatribe that has been going on since President Obama took office. I knew from the beginning what was going to happen; because many of my classes in college had to do with detecting and reading false propaganda in its many forms. And, the Republicans have been pro’s in their planned format to get rid of President Obama from the beginning. The old mob control incidents of the past only needed one person to cry out, “Lych him.” The people who were too weak to cry out alone, most definitely would then join the mob. You had buddies to back you up. It was sick then, and it is sick today; and it should be shouted out from the roof tops. Thank you again and God Bless….
Rev. Mary Virginia Flynn

54. And thank God he’s not done yet. Please give him four more yrs to move us forward…

55. This is very informative and for those that believe he did little, this should shed some light…Thank you President for keeping Americans your first priority…

I will vote for Obama. Is there any one can answer my question: The republican party sail that Obama is a good person, but a bad president, so, how can these people can fix our country, -economy, political, tech, etc, etc, after they destroyed all the super job, the legacy from Clinton? Suddently, republicans are the most inteligent people in the world, but when they were leading our country, they did so many stupid decisions. I do not get it.

60. Friday Odong says:

Dear President, I love you and you have my one vote and the votes of my entire household and friends. I’m hoping that you and the rest of the Democrats will be in a sound mental state in the forthcoming DNC national convention, to remember and share these great achievements with the American voters. May God bless you and help you be re-elected!

61. President Obama has done, is doing and will be doing a great job for our country when he is re-elected President of the United States of America. There are millions of people that do not know the accomplishments he has achieved. That is why I am posting this list of accomplishments on my FaceBook wall.

62. Betty F. Marshall says:

I just discovered your website and was truly impressed by the vast multitude of largely unknown accomplishments of our esteemed president, Barrack Obama. I greatly admire his intellect, his skills, his quiet equanimity in the face of unrelenting criticism, obstruction, misrepresentation of his policies and words and yes, the outright lies.
I have tried to keep abreast of things occurring within his administration and have found his policies to be fair, aimed at helping the poor and middle class, and remaining consistent to his ideals and true to his word.
I only wish that I could show this to everyone in my immediate community in East Saint Louis, IL; as well as every rational, patriotic person in America who wants what is best for all of its citizens whether poor, African American, Hispanic, a woman, immigrant, veteran, student or elderly.
I personally am urging everyone I know to exercise their right to vote that our parents and grandparents, black and white, fought and died for. I urge others to also speak out loudly against voter suppression, voter ID laws, and so-called poll watchers” , no matter where you live. VOTE OBAMA 2012

Shame on you America and those repugnuts and tea pary nut wings. I am in tears right now because i wish this country would RESPECT him and his family and stop al the hate becuase he is Black. It is just sad to see how hateful people can be and the only reason is the color of his skin and not the content of his character. He may not always be right but I bet he is right more than he is wronGg God watch over him and his family. I have tremendous respect for this man!!!!!

69. You won’t hear any of this on FOX NEWS!

70. Richard M. Crooks says:

I agree this list should go to every republican, and tea party member. None of them care about the country its only their agenda.

71. Jacquii de Carvalho says:

Sister 64
I was looking for a site today which had the accomplishments of President Obama, so I could pass them along to the stupid republicans, I absolutely have to have contact with because of my work, that are saying that “he has done nothing but vacation, travel abroad with his entire family and spend the taxpayers money traveling on Air Force 1”. That he has destroyed their country!!!
Big kuddos to 3 Chics Politico. What in the devil are they thinking? Are they so jaded by racism that the thought of him being President has driven them stone gone crazy? Do they think that our President should travel coach on American Airlines and sit in the back of the plane? Have you ever heard such crap. If it wasn’t so pathetic, it would be funny. Unfortunately, I see no humor in bigotry.
After all, he is the POTUS and deserves his proper respect, just like every other President. Do we “really” have to remind fellow Americans to vote for President Obama in November? It’s a no brainer to me. There really is no other choice. Mitt Willard Romney cannot remember from day to day what he said yesterday. He is not qualified to do anything except fire people for his own personal gain and hope that all immigrants want to self deport. He sounds demented most of the time.
President Obama has done so much for the betterment of our country in spite of all the congressional obstruction tactics.
Don’t Americans with good sense remember hearing over and over again the GOP along with FOX News, LOL, praising that their main objective would be to make sure that President Obama is only in office for one term? What a way to run a government. They would rather see this country crumble and lose all credibility than support our President, because that would make him look good, and people would see him doing a fabulous job as President. How pathetic and petty. They have voted down every major legislation that would give Americans jobs, bring down unemployment and help lift up our economy, just to make him look back in the our eyes. Didn’t work fellows. You, Congress, is totally corrupt and the coin is going to turn in November 2012. I envision our President winning once again, and also a democratic senate and house of representatives. I cannot be the only person on planet earth that is sick and tired of what has occurred within our congressional government during these last three years. It’s been too much and too obvious…. the agenda of congress.
I better close now because I am beginning to write an epic
Thanks for letting me vent.

Lionel: If President Obama has failed in one very significant way, it would be the failure of him and his administration to CLEARLY enunciate his accomplishments. There are many…..and voters MUST be made aware of all he has managed to get done in spite of the sabotage and open treason of THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!
And there is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION; HE DESERVES A SECOND TERM!

76. Cherise Petty says:

3CHICSPOLITICO, Thank you for providing us with this site. I was searching for a site that listed and detailed President Obama’s accomplishments and here you are, I found you. Congratulations to you and your team!! Well done!!! I do however, have one concern and that is people, we don’t have to use or write profanity to get across what we need or want to say. Doing things the right way starts with us. WE have little ones who are learning from us. With that being said, I will be voting AGAIN for our president as well as praying for he and his family. As I read the numerous accounts of his achievements, I can’t be proud enough of what this man has done. We all know he has been met with needless opposition. What I am most dissappointed in is the total lack of respect he has been shown-first as a man and then as the president of the United States. I wonder what other countries must think of us. Racism is running rampant, as I knew it would really show its ugly head once President Obama was voted in as America’s leader. There are some people who say, “Get over it already!” However, they keep pulling us in!! What I do know is that we have to be ever so strong in our faith and belief in God! Continue to pray for our President and his family. I will keep all of you in my prayers. If you choose not to be a believer in God, then be strong within yourselves and let the influences of our ancestors be your anchor. To our President-Keep God first and do what you know is Right and good and pleasing in His sight and everything will be alright!! You are not alone. SEE YOU NEXT TERM!!!

However, I don’t think addressing the obvious would really accomplish anything. The best thing he can do is to continue to do his job well and let that speak for him.

85. Chaplain Marcus L Taylor says:

I have pleasantly happened upon this site, and must say that it has become for me an instant breath of fresh air and a surge of last minute, just in the nick of time saving breath! The American opinion/political/governmental arena has become so polluted with such a high level of stagnant, foul-smelling, flagrant, blatant lies, twisted facts and innuendos, that the attempt to hold ones mental breath, so as not to inhale and be mentally suffocated by this deadly smog, can be like fighting to reach the surface of the water with the bubbles of your last breath oozing from your expended lungs, with still yet 100 yards further up to go! Drowning seems imminent!

Three things still remain true and must be kept in mind as it relates to this President:
1) It has ALWAYS, and shall forever remain true, that a black person doing the same job as a white person, has to fight three times as hard to get the job, be three times as good on the job doing the job, and accomplish three times as much with the job, so that three times as many people can find something to discredit them for, that
2) The pages of history will not only be forced to tell the awesome and remarkable story of how this man ended up in the White House, against all odds, political trends, political and historical timetables and expectations, but in its discourse, will have to admit, that the very presence of this President brought out of dormant, disguised hiding and back into the light the truth that, “racism and prejudice are still alive and well in America, and
3) In spite of all that the first two points heap upon us, we as a race of people are “experts” at the arts of “resiliency”, “endurance” and perseverance”! Had it not been for these ethnocentric characteristics, we would not have survived our historical experience and struggle in America. The President and First Lady are products of this history and bear within them these genes. For this reason, and the facts you have so effectively and efficiently presented here, President Barach Hussein Obama, 44th President of the United States, my Commander-in-Chief, and Mrs Michelle Obama will be unwavering, successful and endure. (Mrs. Obama has been just as impressive in her image, demeanor, and accomplishments as FLOTUS! I would stand her up to ANY former First Lady and know she would come out on top and recognized among the best!)

Keep up the good work and I join you in the fight and cause of seeing to it that they have EVERY opportunity to finish the work and add to the list of achievements they have begun.

Thanks for having this great website. I was browsing so I could remind myself, friends, family and acquaintances just how valuable our President has been to this nation. I will definitely copy and pace to an email.

I have watched the political climate since he’s been in office, and I got to tell you that I have never seen so much obstruction, lies, deceit and just plan disrespect towards any president, as I have witnessed toward President Obama.

I only hope and prayer that the Dems & Independents will get behind this man for a 2nd term so that he can continue serving the American people.

The Republicans have made it their business (and have even admitted this), that they intend to make President Obama a one term president. A threat that I have not forgotten and neither should any American citizen who cares about the fate of this country and where we will end up if Romney takes over.

Let’s get united and vote President Obama in a 2nd term.

i agree with every thing in your comment.
i’ve spent so many days angry, near tears sometimes (you would think i personally knew him) because you watch the evil, know its not right, & so unfair but can do nothing about the blatant racism and disrespect. my family would try to sneak out of the room when i started talking about what’s going on.
the first black president & white people resent it so much the will do anything and say anything to not just make him unre-electable, they are trying to destroy him and, i may be wrong, but it seems to me they are also trying to deter any other black man from running ever again at the same time talking about this one nation under God.

these people have been brutal, down to the evil nasty comments ted nugent made about Obama. as much as these same people say they love and care about america, you would think they feel shame and embarrassment. but they don’t because they feel like this is white people country alone and they are entitled, they are superior and they want to continue to hold on to that tittle by kicking the black man out of the white house and reexert their control over blacks & women. i believe this is what they mean by “taking back their america.”

then one day, the light flip on up stairs: these moments are why we have a God. duh. & meanwhile i’m driving my family and myself crazy, Obama doesn’t break a sweat. so instead of driving everyone crazy, i pray for he and his family which is the best thing to do anyway.

it was a pleasant experience reading over Obama’s accomplishment and reading the good things said about him on this site.
Thank You and let’s continue to pray for Obama & his family & one another.

Amazing! Just amazing what President Obama has accomplished. I am so proud of our president and what he is still doing for our country.

This message needs to get out into the MSM all the more

If any president needs to serve a second term it is President Obama!!!
Thank you.

President Obama is a wonderful man with great intelligence who very much cares about us..

98. Patricia E Noel says:

Although I wholeheartedly support Obama, and would love to see him re-elected, I did note one incorrect fact in the list of accomplishments. The Affordable Helathcare Act did not allow Medicare to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies on drug costs. Republicans refused to allow that to stay in the bill. The drug companies did agree to some things which they had initially opposed, like certain fees they will now be paying to the government when a Medicaire claim is filed, in order to get that particular sticking point removed. The Republicans won on that point.

105. This is a good list to share with all those folks who say Obama has accomplished nothing while in office. My thanks for putting it together. One of the things I keep hearing is Repeal Obamacare. I wonder those folks who can’t get insurance for preexisting conditions would say about that. Or people who are bankrupted by catastrophic illnesses might have something to say too. If you pull apart Obamacare, just about everything in it is worth keeping. The likely Republican candidate will be Romney who is responsible for something very like Obamacare at the state level. Repealing it at the federal level would be pointless and expensive for many Americans.

Obama has not done everything I would have liked. I’d like to see him shift left a bit. He’s worth re-electing. His accomplishments are solid and I’m in his corner.

• This is a great list to share with anyone who still has any doubt that President Obama is fit to lead our country into better days…In all of my 50 years, I’ve never witnessed a President who has worked so tirelessly for our country along with participating in human interest activities across America. I’ve never witnessed a family with such love for a country…Obama 2012 …I believe it is already a done deal!

If president Obama is a Whiteman his praise would have filled Pentagon and Whitehouse. Unfortunately he comes from the wrong side “Black” Can anything good come from Black…? How could American savior be a black man? Can a Blackman accomplish what a Whiteman did not? He comes into the Whitehouse with a message of change? What an insult for a black man to change what a white man has instituted? Is it not order of events for a white man to rule and change a black man? Some times people want to pretend that there is no racism and yet we witness it daily. Those who are opposing every good policy of president Obama are doing so because the legislation is coming from the wrong source. It is unbelievable that the whole agenda of the Republicans is to produce a candidate that will defeat president Obama and not a candidate with a better agenda, very unfortunate.
Obama has been given all kinds of names, devil, Anti- Christ, son of Islam, etc. Special squads of oppositionists see nothing good he has done but wasteful spending and big government. President Obama has been noted as the worst president America ever had, Is that true? The truth can not be hidden, and the future will tell about president Obama’s great accomplishments. He has tried and he is still working hard to fix the economy messed up by those singing for his fall. Job – job- job ………………………….job!!! Economy is in a bad shape, caused by who? It is easy to destroy than to repair. It took years to destroy the economy and it may take longer years to re-fix the economy. Shipping Jobs overseas and importation of new immigrants through visa lottery are to a larger extent responsible for economic downturn (unemployment). Indigenous companies were forced to close down because they could not compete with cheap Chinese products that flooded the market across States. Jobs were taken away from Americans. Increase in population without employment increase and fighting many wars.
We should all awake and never give power to those that put us in this mess in the first place.
Mike Brown

114. LatinoInVA says:

Great job! I believe that any unbiased analyst or historian would agree that President Obama is the best President since Franklin D. Roosevelt. He inherited the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and TWO wars from his incompetent predecessor (Bush Jr.). The economy is now in full recovery, 3.7 million jobs have been created; he has withdrawn combat troops from Iraq (as he promised he would); he has set a deadline for withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan; he assisted the valiant Libyan people in getting rid of the genocidal maniac Gaddhafi; he took a great risk in ordering the operation to get rid of the other genocidal maniac Bin Laden; he passed a national health care reform; passed a landmark financial reform; etc., etc. Above all, 3.7 million private sector jobs have been created in 23 consecutive months of job growth (see: http://www.barackobama.com/postcard). On immigration reform, he proposed a very sensible and balanced plan, but it has been stymied by the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. If you want further progress on this and other issues, please help elect a Democratic majority in Congress!

• Mike Brown says:

.
I wish the president could have time to read my mail. I know some Christians that voted for president Obama in 2008, feel disappointed based on his support to same sex marriage. The president should not ignore these groups of individuals, by perhaps thinking it doesn’t matter. I think something could be done to win these persons back to support the president in this forth coming election. If president could have a campaign out reach among church leaders, clergy men and women to enlighten them more on his decision to allow guy rights. Letting them know:
I. Every American should be given equal treatment regardless of their religious or sexual orientations
2. America is a circular state and not a religious state.
3. Obama is president of America and not pastor and has no intention to stand in the place of God for Judgment
4. President Obama is a Christian by choice and has to allow every American to make their choices in life
5. Choice of marriage or sexual orientation should be individualistic and not a collective decision
6. Church Pastors and leaders allowed followers to remain in the churches without separating those who believe from those who believe not. All are allowed to group together for God who is the final judge to decide. Therefore, there is room for everyone to co-exist in a civil state.
Christians and everyone in the society should exercise tolerance, and allow God to make decisions a mere man could not make.
The president is married to a woman and not a man so his stand for marriage is clear but he is the president of united state of American and not an individual group.
I think the president’s meeting with Church leaders will go a long way to boost his campaign and make it more fruitful. May God give Obama president more wisdom to handle these critical issues.

Republicans are absolute oppositionists. Saying no to every good idea from President Obama is a sentiment beyond politics. Majority of the oppositionists are racist, they are not saying no for the interest of the American populace. Some of them felt they lost leadership position to a black American whom they are not even sure his birth place.
To portray what most republicans represent , is to set a drama advert, showing a destroyed building, under reconstruction in which those that contributed to the ruin of the rebuilding are stood by to oppose every good idea to fix the broken house. Creating a scene where oppositionists are standing with a banner in their hands saying no…no… no…..! to every positive move to clean up their mess. we are all Americans and no one should be seen less. we should work together to rebuild this great nation.

I’ve been looking for sites like this which listed President Obama’s many accomplishments. Tonight I was lucky enough to come across a link to this site through a person who posted a comment on Daily Kos.

Reading some of the comments here I must say that I disagree to some extent about frustrations over how the Republicans and a lesser extent the media paint a picture of Obama. Those lies are to be expected. What disappoints me though is the whining and complaining of fellow liberals and progressives who act as if Obama betrayed all of their hopes and dreams. But as that well-done New York magazine piece pointed out a few months back, liberals are always disappointed with their presidents during their presidencies.

I just found your site because I’m trying to live with a co-worker who is a total righty, and the worst part is she’s a YOUNG righty–the saddest thing of all, right? She says Barack has been a terrible prez, and I’m happy to find a site that tells it like it is, and she might just respond to a site that is young & hip. Or at least maybe she’ll shut the hell up about how wonderful “President Bush” was (she never refers to Barack as President Obama).

I slowly turned my head towards the moron, smiled and hit my automatic lock on my door. He looked so let down that I did not respond. Hopefully, your ill-informed co-worker will visit the site but I have found that sometimes you just don’t entertain ignorance.

This hate by a few has spread and brought out so much hatred for others that are unlike themselves. How can these christians be so full of hate? Can their God be so different from my God, Jesus Christ and God the Father?
I pray that President Obama wins this very crucial election!!!
Our country can not afford to go back a century! We, the people, have fought so hard for laws that protect us and our children, we need to get our country back.
We need to educate ourselves and our children so that they can prosper and maintain a quality of life that will move us forward to achieve the american dream.

138. Mike Brown says:

It is in deed overwhelming to read through these documentary the achievements of president Obama. Unfortunately his opponents the Republicans are bent to destroy him by saying no to almost every good idea he has, just to frustrate his administration. Thanks a million for putting up this website to enlighten the world and American citizens who are deceived by republican politics. One thing amazed me as I watch some people talk about State of US Economy and blamed President Obama for not fixing the economy within the first three years in office. Do his critics consider the circumstances that led to these economic problems? I don’t see the GOP presidential Candidates connecting properly with the solution to the economic problem.
Before President Obama took office, the economy was already down. He inherited a lot of economic ruins from President Bush, which he has been working hard to fix. He should in no way be blamed for unemployment situation. Rather Americans should support his attempt to fix the economy which will gradually come to normal with joint efforts of every American.
I think the following issues should be put into consideration by critics.
1. Exporting American jobs and selling her technology to China, Wal-Mart role in shipping production to China and forced the closure of many companies. Flooding American market with Chinese made goods.
2. Resourcing for cheap labor has caused America her glory for job creation, which today has enriched Chinese economy. America today is a marketing country instead of producing country. US products are expensive. Low income workers have made Chinese products their choice as their could not afford US expensive products.
3. Increase in US population: in the past decades, America has imported millions of people from around the world through visa lottery. All these folks accepted in America increased the population, and increased unemployment rate. Most of these men and women accepted into the country have no Job. Companies that will create Job opportunities are in China building her economy. Unemployed Americans are funded by the government through public funds that would have been used for further social developments. Should America stop importing people through visa lottery, to enable the government sustain those already in the country without jobs?
4. Funding many countries and fighting many wars at the same time led trillions of dollar debts.
5. All these affected the economy and president Obama have been doing his best to fix the economy since he came into office. It is easier to destroy than to repair. It takes a long time to fix a broken economy no matter who is in power. Therefore, Americans should rally round and support president Obama to continue with the good work he is doing.
I was expecting the GOP presidential candidates to come forward with full acknowledgement of what went wrong with the economy and offering their solutions. None of them seems to have Ideas of what went wrong and how to fix the economy.
I am of the opinion that before fixing the economy the route cause should be traced, which is shipping jobs to china. To stop Chinese goods flooding into US market, and rebuilding production plants that had closed down for decades. To stop Chinese goods you have to provide an alternatives, or else it will back fire as low income workers will react negatively. Many cannot afford expensive products and have embraced Chinese made goods for an alternative, To recall US companies to reestablish production plants in the US, may not be easy. The government will not only provide the enabling environments for investment but also good rewarding inceptions if they do come home to invest. To suddenly abolish Chinese products in US market may not work for the good of the economy as masses will be affected. Perhaps increase in import duties may limit importations and gradually open up for home made goods. What kind of inception will motivate US investors to come home? Tax cut or freedom from tax for many years to allow them reestablish and reducing the cost of production. it will take years rebuild the economy. Watching the Republican presidential candidates’ debates. I presume that president Obama will win the 2012 Election come November.

Wondering on the recent interview with Mr president Obama, his stand on gay marriage, I know many Christians who supported him in the first election may have been disappointed by his comments. If you are disappointed, consider the fact that this is a civil society, and not a religious institution.
Beside God’s love is for all without demarcation. God allowed all to co-exist and have equal rights to enjoy all His earthly endownments. Every Bible believing Christian knows what God says about marriage and should not be worried about those who see marriage differently. All should be given chance to co-exist and have equal treatment in

President Obama can win back those who are considering to withdraw their support for his relection, both Evangelicals and pentecostal if He will consider meeting with pastors and church leaders, to enlighten them on his reasons for supporting gay marriage, reminding them how God allowed all human beings to enjoy his creations, and shared his love to all mankind, millions will be motivated to support him.

Mr. President Obama is the best thing that happen to this country since Kennedy n Clinton. He has done more for this country than any other president. He cares about our senior citizens, our soldiers, our educational system, the immigrants, etc. I love you Obama and I know u were sent to that house by God. You have proven to not do what man wants, but rather what God wants. For that we have your back and you can count on us. You kept your word even when most were against you. May God continue to bless you n your family.

KILLED OSAMA BIN LADEN, RAMPED UP CAMPAIGN AGAINST AL QAEDA

Obama’s policy: Soon after taking office, President Obama ordered then-CIA director Leon Panetta to “redouble” efforts to track down al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Just six months after 9/11, President Bush said of bin Laden, “I really just don’t spend much time on” bin Laden. In 2005, Bush shut down the CIA’s unit dedicated to tracking him because resources were needed to fight the war in Iraq. Nearly three years later, Obama ordered a Navy SEAL raid into bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, killing the al-Qaeda leader and obtaining troves of valuable intelligence on the terror network. Then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates called President Obama’s decision to get bin Laden “one of the most courageous calls I’ve ever seen a president make.”

GOP’s response: The GOP refused to credit the Obama administration with planning and executing the raid and baselessly claimed the Bush administration’s torture program led to the killing of Bin Laden.

Outcome: Bin Laden’s death brought an end to a nearly decade long manhunt. No civilians or U.S. military personnel were killed. Indeed, as CAP’s Brian Katulis and Peter Juul note, “the Al Qaeda network over the past three years suffered its greatest losses since the United States and its allies evicted the terrorist organization from Afghanistan in 2001.”

MOBILIZED INT’L COALITION TO PROTECT LIBYAN PRO-DEMOCRACY DEMONSTRATORS

Obama’s policy: The Obama administration, led by Susan Rice at the United Nations, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at NATO, pulled together an international coalition to approve and successfully execute a no-fly zone over Libya to protect anti-Qaddafi rebels.

GOP’s response: Republicans parroted Qaddafi’s propaganda claiming that Al Qaeda was behind the rebel uprising. With Qaddafi’s death, Republicans again refused to credit Obama, mocked the White House for “leading from behind” and criticized the administration’s strategy for failing to use more U.S. air-power or putting American “boots on the ground.”

Outcome: In just seven months and spending only $1 billion, coalition forces helped the rebels successfully overthrow the Qaddafi regime on october 20, 2011.

ORDERED THE COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL OF U.S. FORCES FROM IRAQ BY END OF THE YEAR

Obama’s policy: Early in his presidency, Obama promised that U.S. troops would end combat missions by late summer 2010. Combat missions formally ended on August 31, 2010. On October 21, 2011, following Iraqi parliament’s unwillingness to support an extension of immunity for U.S. military personnel, Obama announced that all U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by the end of the year.

GOP’s response: Despite the fact President Bush signed an agreement to withdraw all U.S. troop from Iraq by 2012, Republicans called the decision an “astonishing failure” and claimed Obama “lost the war in Iraq.” Despite once hailing the agreement signed by the Bush administration outlining the process of U.S. troop withdrawal, Fred Kagan charged that “this retreat will have great costs for the United States.”

Outcome: The withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq brings an end to a costly and war, in both lives and treasure. The troop withdrawal will lower total U.S. government costs for operations in Iraq to $11 billion in 2012. A massive reduction from the $65.1 billion budgeted for Iraq in 2010.

ISOLATED AND WEAKENED IRAN

Obama’s policy: The Obama administration has worked to tighten and enforce sanctions against Iran and on June 9, 2010, the U.N. Security Council, at the Obama administration’s encouragement, passed a new round of multilateral sanctions. The following month, Obama signed the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA) which, among other restrictions, banned Iranian-origin imports for items such as rugs, pistachios and caviar.

GOP’s response: The right wing continues to criticize Obama for failing to bring “crippling” — Iraq-style — sanctions against Iran or for not explicitly threatening military action. For example, while ignoring signs of progress in Obama’s pressure and containment strategy against Tehran, Mitt Romney inaccurately claimed that “our president has communicated in various subtle ways that there is not a military option that we would consider.”

Outcome: The IAEA reported recently that Iran is increasingly moving toward a weaponized program. But outside pressure has stalled and/or delayed progress. The Iranians have had difficulty in acquiring replacement parts for machines used to enrich uranium and damage from the Stuxnet computer virus — understood to have been developed as part of U.S. government program — led to a slowdown in program. Obama’s push on Iran at the United Nations has isolated the Islamic Republic internationally and the administration’s diplomats persuaded Russia and China to abstain from vetoing U.N. sanctions.

171. Ivey Cooper says:

I’ve finally found a good website with Obama’s accomplishments! yay!

172. Dan Stephens says:

Thank you for posting this comprehensive, and impressive, listing. I call for Democrats to unite for the common good of the Party and for the good of this country. It is imperative Republicans are beat at their lying, deceiving, power-hungry quest for political dominance. Sorry, fellow Americans (referring to Republican followers), but your leadership is detrimental to the health of our nation and the future of our society. You are only good for providing a sense of checks and balances to our politics, but absolutely no good in positions of leadership. By the way, I am not a registered Democrat; rather an Independent. However, it is difficult to truly remain Independent when the Republican Party continues to spiral deeper and deeper in their little world of nonsense, deprecation and deception offering no political choice of significance. There … I said it, and I feel awesome!

• ed lazarus says:

Dan Stephens:
You should feel awesome. The accomplishments of our President….particularly in the area of foreign relations and his role as Commander In Chief…are enough to make anyone feel awesome—unless you are a republican!
In their comments about the situation in Libya, several notable GOP slugs made it a point to praise the French and English….but not a word about Obama. What childish imbeciles.
Anyway, I wanted mostly to say thanks for your excellent comments, the way you expressed your point of view, and for being of such stellar character and intelligence to clearly recognize the terrible nothingness of the GOP. These fools are simply incapable of leading….and to put our trust in them after the way they raped and pillaged America would be a sin.
I am a registered Democrat, and I see what damage the GOP has done and the sad promise of what they will do—-given the chance.
I will do everything in my power to see that Obama is re-elected. It is the only chance we have .

173. ed lazarus says:

It is sad and shameful to watch TV on this special day that the people of Libya are finally free of the murderous tyrant that has all but destroyed their country….due in large part to the efforts and leadership of the Obama administration…as members of the GOP find various ways to praise the results…….but NOT MENTION OBAMA!
McCain, Gingrich, McConnel., Cheney (The War Criminal)…one yellow-bellied failure after another that just could NOT keep us safe….each refusing to acknowledge the FANTASTIC accomplishments of our EXCELLENT president!
I have come to the conclusion that America’s worst and most dangerous enemy is the GOP. The entire party is in a state of decay that absolutely reeks.
And the leadership of today’s GOP is made up of cowards, traitors, morons and slugs!
For those in doubt….witness the vote earlier today to DENY jobs to some 400,000 teachers and first responders. Such disloyalty MUST be paid for in November.

• yellow-bellied, Ed? A god awful person I once knew use to ridicule me for using the word. He is a creep to the 10th power. It makes me nauseous to even think of the person.

• ed lazarus says:

SouthernGirl2:
I am willing to acknowledge that my choice of words was a bit harsh…..but I am running out of patience.
I hereby officially withdraw the use of “yellow-bellied;” but insist of inserting “craven coward” in its place.
And I believe that if there is justice in America……Obama will be re-elected and both house of congress will be controlled by the Democrats.

174. ed lazarus says:

Time after time we see the intelligence, patience, and foresight of an extraordinarily gifted man on display as our EXCELLENT president accomplishes one more notable achievement with the liberation of the people of Libya and the demise of the dictator. What else is new?
And yet….not one member of the inept idiots of the GOP will even acknowledge this amazing feat.
What sad fools!

175. And this is the record he must run on…..not to mention the death of the once, notorious Libyan leader who killed Americans, Muammar Quadaffi. I call this…..

“OCCOMPLISHMENTS!”

176. Judy Gilson says:

Now this is the FACTS about what Obama has done since in Office, and thought I would post since GOP seems to think he has accomplished NOTHING…….

177. Saul Cohn says:

The right is so brainwashed you can’t reason with them, I call them the flat earth society, we have lost the ability to reason in this country, I pray for President Obama.

178. Marsha Davis says:

We should all be telling everyone about the good news! The DNC should be telling everyone about the good news, all the time. We need to tell people the TRUTH, over and over and over until they get it.
The Repugs tell their lies over and over and over until people believe them.
Truth shall triumph!

179. To add to this list. The republicans are the ones who have the economy in the bad situation it’s in today. President Obama cleaned up their mess and now they don’t even want to help him put their own republican voters who are out of work back to work. The republicans were in office during 911 which we are still feeling the effects of. It’s to soon to put them back in the white house. Maybe 2016. Good luck. Lester

Despite Every Effort To Assure Obama Fails…

Downgrade & Debt Ceiling: Republicans set up the first debt ceiling debate in history. Never before did we need to argue about what had already been spent under previous presidents. The GOP voted 79 times to raise the debt ceiling without debate since 1960. Not a word when Reagan tripled the debt, or when Bush ran it up more than all presidents combined?

Unemployment – Thank God Obama Is President and Not Reagan, Bush, or any Republican! Presidents are inaugurated at the end of January so each President was rated on their first full month of presidency. Using official Bureau of Labor statistics for each president the numbers are…

Bush first month – unemployment rate 4.1% – when he left office the unemployment rate was 8.2% – Not fair you say because that is 8 years of numbers versus only the time Obama has been in office? OK – Obama has been in office 31 months. When he became president the unemployment rate in Feb/2009 was 8.2% – now it is 9.1% – a 10.9% jump in unemployment
Bush took office in February 2000 – the unemployment rate that month was 4.1% – in 31 months his unemployment rate was 6.0% – a 46% jump in unemployment.

In January 1980 when Reagan took office the unemployment rate was 6.3% – two years later the unemployment rate had increased 65% to 10.4% – if you compare where Reagan was to the exact same time Obama has been in office – 31 months – unemployment was up to 8.8% under Reagan – a 55.6% increase, versus Obama’s 10.9% increase.

Obama has already added more jobs to this economy in his first two and a half years than Bush did in eight. Under Bush we lost 2.6 million jobs in one year with his tax cuts for the rich / I mean “job creators” tax plan.

When Obama took office the country was losing 600,000 jobs for more than a quarter after he came in – last month we added 117,000 – not great but a +717,000 swing shouldn’t be called a failure – should it?

We Need Jobs – I Agree That’s Why You Must Vote Democrat: If you want private sector jobs you DOUBLE the job creation by making sure a Democrat is in the White House. Since 1944 there have been 5 democrat presidents and 6 republican presidents.

When a Democrat is in the White House the average job creation is 2,020,000 new jobs per year. When a Republican is in the White House average job creation is 989,500 new jobs per year.

Go back over 100 years and the trends never change – Democrats create DOUBLE the jobs

Obama Stimulus Package was a failure? Obama put in a stimulus package to stem the loss of jobs – the plan featured: $288 billion in tax cuts to individuals and businesses, $224 billion in unemployment benefits / aid to states and local governments, and $275 billion for job creation using federal contracts, grants and loans.

Every Republicans voted against the bill. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he and the Republicans were in no rush to provide economic relief as they wanted to assure safeguards in the bill. McConnell, and the GOP had no problem passing President Bush’s Wall Street TARP bailout instantly, even though that package had NO oversight safeguards – in fact the bill banned Congress or anyone else from questioning how the money was spent.

McConnell led the fight to pass the TARP bill as fast as possible.

Google how many cities and states were able to keep on, or hire back teachers, police and firemen because of this stimulus bill.

The stated goal with the infrastructure and job creation stimulus money was to create between 900,000 and 2.3 million jobs – the Bureau of Labor statistics recently reported that we have added 2.4 million jobs in the last 17 months.

In March 2009, before the stimulus plan was launched, first quarter GDP was -6.4% and the Dow had slid to 6,500. By the fourth quarter 2009, GDP was +5% and the Dow had risen to 10,428.

The Stimulus helped small business owners by providing increased lending from the SBA and community banks, and also reduced capital gains tax for any small business investor.

Obama Deficit??

Obama is blamed for a national deficit that he largely had nothing to do with. The government runs a fiscal year that ends September 30th. All of the TARP money and every other failed Bush policy were added to Obama on October 1, 2009. The Wall Street bailout, loss of revenue due to job losses, Iraq and Afghanistan all were under Bush not Obama.

Want To Compare Something? Economists say the downgrade from S&P could cost us $58 billion in increased annual interest payments. What’s funny about that is there’s an emergency jobs plan to add 3 million $30,000 teacher aides nationally that’s being pushed by Democrats.com – those jobs would cost the government $58 Billion. Would the Republicans and Tea Baggers agree to add $58 Billion to create an instant 3 million jobs? Of course not but they have no problem causing the country to pay $58 Billion in more interest due to some trumped up debt ceiling debate!

Tax Cuts Create Jobs? Or as the GOP calls them “job creators” – 75% of CEO got raises last year and the average increase was 27%. The median pay was $1.1 million on average with the top firms averaging $9 million each. And one more thing – the average “bonus” was $2.2 Million – up 47% in one year.

Where did they get all that money for raises? In a recent USA Today research article the number one reason given by CEO’s and HR managers for increased pay to the CEO’s and executive staff was ‘job reductions resulting in more cash available”. I guess that’s part of the so called trickle down economics these “job creators” will help us all with when they get tax cuts??

189. peary85 says:

What a fantastic site. What I find very interesting is that the economy was starting to slowly come back until the President started compromising with the GOP house and cutting taxes instead of investing in the future of this country and infrastructure, getting us off of foreign. Funny how the GOP are trying to blame the unemployment numbers on the President when it’s actually since some of their crappy policies were implimented again after the President and the Democrats worked HARD to bring the economy and this country back from the brink that the job growth in the private sector started to slow down and the lay offs in the Public sector sped up. They don’t understand that there is NO WAY that private corporations are going to hire new employees when there isn’t much demand for their products since many don’t have money in their pockets. Put money in people’s pockets increases demand and therefore spurs on private sector jobs. SOOOOOOOOOOOO instead of cut cut cut, we should be closing tax loop holes which has hedge fund operators paying 16.9% in taxes on the Multi-million if not billion annual salaries to fleece the American people. For those that don’t understand basic economics I suggest you turn off Fox and start listening to Robert Reisch. He knows what the heck he’s talking about!

More Solid Proof That Obamacare Is Working
May. 23 2011 – 1:17 pm

Recent data provided by the nation’s largest health insurance companies reveals that a provision of the Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – is bringing big numbers of the uninsured into the health care insurance system.

And they are precisely the uninsured that we want– the young people who tend not to get sick.

The provision of the law that permits young adults under 26, long the largest uninsured demographic in the country, to remain on their parents’ health insurance program resulted in at least 600,000 newly insured Americans during the first quarter of 2011.

Wellpoint, the nation’s largest publicly traded health insurer with some 34 million customers, reports adding 280,000 new members in the first three months of 2011.

Add in the results of some of the other large health insurers including Aetna, who added just short of 100,000 newly insured to their customer base, Kaiser Permanente’s additional 90,000, and Highmark’s 72,000 new customers, and we begin to sense our health insurance pools are filling up with some badly needed young blood.

The Health & Human Services Department had estimated that the changes in the law would result in about 1.2 million new enrollees in 2011. However, according to Aaron Smith, the executive director of a Washington based non-profit that advocates for the young, it now looks as if that number will be exceeded.

This is very good news – particularly for those in the individual and small group markets that tend not to ‘self-insure’ as the larger corporations tend to do.

It is also very good news for those of us who write a large check every month for our health coverage.
For starters, every one of the young immortals we add to the rolls of the insured is one less young adult who will turn to the emergency room to fix a broken leg and then find themselves unable to pay the bill – leaving it to the rest of us to pay the tab.

And it gets better.

Because the under 26 crowd tends not to get sick, adding them to the insurance pools helps bring the very balance that was intended by the new law. The more healthy people available to pay for those in the pool who are ill (translation- the older people), the better the system works and the lower our premium charges should go.

One cannot help but notice that the health insurance companies turned in record profits for the first quarter of 2011 due, according the insurance companies, to fewer people seeking medical treatment.

When you add into their customer base a large number of people who are paying premiums but are less likely to get sick (the young adult demographic), this would be the expected result.

The question now is whether we allow the health insurance companies to hold onto the benefits of this reform by keeping the extra money they are pocketing or force them to hold the line on premiums as a result of their good fortune.

I’m betting that the policyholders, with the help of both state and federal governments, will win this battle.

Meanwhile, things continue to improve on the small business front where business owners are being heavily incentivized to offer health care benefits to employees.

As I wrote in January, there has been a significant uptick in small businesses taking advantage of the tax benefits offered by the ACA to provide health insurance to employees where they previously did not do so.

According to a Kaiser survey, there has been a 46% uptick in businesses with less than 10 employees offering health benefits as compared to last year.

That is a big number.

Further improving the outlook, the IRS has, in the past month, issued guidelines for small businesses which very much bolster the tax credits offered. Included in those guidelines are provisions that clarify that the tax credit will not be reduced by a state health care tax credit or subsidy (except in limited circumstances to prevent abuse of the credit); that small businesses can receive the credit not only for traditional health insurance coverage but also for add-on dental, vision, and other limited-scope coverage; and detailed guidance on how a small business can determine whether it is eligible and how large a credit it will receive.

Health care reform is working, folks – and we have yet to get to the really big benefits which kick in come 2014.

Now that we are seeing some decidedly positive results, I am reminded of the GOP criticism that was leveled at the health care reform effort back when the issue was on the front burner of the national consciousness.

Once we get past the August 2009 era of the townhall meetings where the Republicans were pitching the false “death panel” narrative to great effect, we see that there are two primary challenges lodged against the law- the cuts to Medicare and the health insurance mandates.

Today, the GOP is pursuing the Ryan budget plan that would destroy Medicare as we know it, turning it into a voucher program that has no chance of keeping up with the rising costs of medical care and leaving seniors to face a future of inadequate and unavailable health care.

It is no secret that polling reveals that Americans are very much not in favor of Ryan’s plan.

So much is this the case, the health care issue that played such a large role in handing the House of Representatives over to the GOP last November, is now the very same issue that has become the focal point of the special election in New York’s 26th Congressional District where polling shows Democrat Kathy Hochul is leading Republican Jane Corwin in what has long been a safe GOP seat.

The reason Hochul may emerge victorious?

The GOP’s anti-Medicare plan.

The irony is exquisite.

As for the health insurance mandates, reviewing the field of the major GOP presidential contenders, some interesting data begins to emerge.

Newt Gingrich – for mandated health insurance before he was against it (although he may have already switched positions again this morning.)

Jon Huntsman – for mandated health insurance before he was against it. Indeed, mandates were a vital part of the health care reform Huntsman pushed as Governor of Utah before the GOP majority in the state legislature put the brakes on the idea.

Mitt Romney- as the true father of Obamacare, clearly he was for mandates before he was against them.

Only Tim Pawlenty appears to be in the clear on the topic.

The time has arrived for even the most critical to take another look at health care reform. Facts and figures don’t lie – if accurately presented.

And while the full jury won’t be in for a few more years, maybe the time has come for average Americans more interested in what is best for their country rather than grinding a political axe, to reconsider their views.

I think you’ll like what you see.

• James Reedy says:

Thank you for gathering this information. It will be a very powerful weapon in the war of politics today. I wanted to do something like this myself but did not have the money to access the data and frankly the time either. Thank you President Obama, for your intelligence, courage, and patience. I was a little upset with you on the public option and extending the Bush tax cuts last year. Like every student I try to understand your logic. And now I see that you have NEVER raised taxes on ANYONE and the republicans just painted themselves into a corner as the first to raise taxes since President Bush failed to give over (100 Million of us this payroll tax last term)! This list will help me turn some heads but most of them will find a Heritage Foundation study to make it all look like fiction! While Fox and all of “rupert murdocks” crew runs 24/7 fiction on free plasma screen TV’S in Burger King’s around my town while MSNBC runs prison re-runs from 6pm Friday to 5AM Monday! Who is paying for these prison re runs on MSNBC? No one wants to watch them except criminals because they miss their former way of life. So I wonder why when everyone is off work all they can see on the only (fair and balanced news station) is prison re-runs. So when you see ads on FOX from, Exxon, Big Pharma, GE, Conoco Phiilips, BP, Wall Street Journal, or even presidential candidates who were actually working for Fox last year and getting FREE campaign time while Keith Oberman was fired last year from MSNBC for donating $3,000.00 to a local candidate, ask yourself who is FAIR and BALANCED?

• @ Anlashok Haruchai: You’re so silly! You need to catch up on your facts before you come here with ignoramus drivel. It makes you look…ummm…silly!

• Ametia says:

LOL the trolls and haters have been giving their marching orders. I let this one into the sandbox, so we could pound the crap out of’em!

• Edward Lazarus says:

Anlashok Haruchai:
It is kinda fun reading the comments from those who would defend the indefensible–(BUSH)–because your methods and your talking points are so ridiculously transparent. I realize that nothing I say—-even if you were willing to accept facts—will change your position one iota. So I won’t rant on with criticism….but I will ask a question. I don’t necessarily expect a response….but you may wish to enlighten this impossible to change LIBERAL. Who knows.
I wonder—and I am not being facetious or piling on Bush–(tho I will if you would like)–but I wonder why ANY American citizen who earns less than $250.000….who will one day be looking for a Social Security check, will face surgery covered by Medicare, who struggles with college tuition, who likes to know that SOMEONE is checking to see that our food and medicines are safe—-why would such an individual vote for the GOP after they raped our economy? To me, that would be a vote AGAINST my own interests. Perhaps you are secure in your life and your future to manage without government programs . If so—-I congratulate you. Otherwise…..you have me mystified. Peace!

194. Congrats, Mr. President!

May 1st, 2011 11:30!

Osama Bin Laden is dead!

• Ametia says:

This is the one promise PBO staked his presidency on, capturing Bin Laden, and he has done this.

Thank you, Special Ops and Mr. President!

195. Edward Lazarus says:

I continue to believe that…at a time when we needed it most…we were so extremely fortunate to have a TRUE LEADER like our EXCELLENT president available to step in and 1) rescue America from the many mis-steps of Bush/Cheney, provide calm, thoughtful leadership to a country left in turmoil by his predecessor, and 2) save us from the total, unmitigated disaster that a McCain/Palin administration would surely have been.
He has accomplished much—not with the help of the GOP—-but over the childish objections of the very fools who put us at such great risk.
That he has managed to “keep his cool” in such outrageously negative circumstances, all the while improving our relationships with other nations that were simply ignored and/or insulted by the incredibly clumsy Bush gang of utter fools speaks volumes about his personality, his many talents, and his ability to “clearly see the big picture.”
We are fortunate indeed….and I will do my part to see that we are able to benefit from his leadership abilities for still four more years.

• Good Post! Well stated!

• Ametia says:

Hi Edward. Welcome to 3 Chics. Keeping spreading your truth about our president. Thanks!

• m j woessner says:

I agree with everything you said, I wish I could do more than one vote to help him, where would we be if them tea-baggers were to get into office, I think Wisconson, Ohio, Pennsylvania,Flordia,Indiana,ETC ETC, could give us an idea, my biggest thrill was the major disapointment in that party that George Bushs budget director wouldnt run for president, what part of bushs budget were they so in love with, but he fit with the rest of the line-up, I like Trump saying hes gonna tell the king of Saudi Arabia ‘Look M Fer you aint raising the price of oil, someone needs to tell him they still behead people over there , his comb-over would be rolling around the town sqare. Thank you for your work

• Ametia says:

Hi m j. LOL@ ‘Look M Fer you aint raising the price of oil, someone needs to tell him they still behead people over there , his comb-over would be rolling around the town sqare.’

You’re welcome, m j.

196. Martia Charles says:

I am hardpressed to find the Constitutional authority for any but a couple of these accomplishments.

• Martia, Martia, Martia…..Are you a Constitutional Scholar? President Obama is a constitutional law professor! He taught courses in constitutional law at the University of Chicago. I think he knows what’s up with constitutional law.
But thanks for playing…

• Ametia says:

Martin, you must be one of those folks who carries that lil blue pocketbook of the Constitution and interpreting it for your own peace of mind.

Did you carry that book around reviewing for the past 43 presidents?

How about using some good old fashioned common sense, and let go of your fear about the black president turning America into some socialist, nazi, maxist, reparitions, black power, get rid of whitey nation.

Happy New Year! :-)

• I am hardpressed to find the Constitutional authority

Translation: How dare the black guy act as if he’s President?

• Laura says:

It seems as republicans take over the House, they are hard pressed as well…

In their “Pledge to America,” Republicans said they would cut $100 billion from the budget in the first year, but have recently backed away from that number. Homeland Security Committee chair Peter King (R-NY) is looking at cutting $50 billion, and a GOP aide told The Huffington Post’s Howard Fineman that the bottom line is more like $30 billion.

“The three bills that Republicans plan to introduce this week — one to cut the congressional budget, one to repeal the health care bill and another to instruct House committees to present new health care legislation — were posted on the Rules Committee website with plenty of time for review, but none had the http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/maddow-gop-declares-war-promises/constitutional citation for similar review,” Politico reported.

nifty site! check it out

• Ametia says:

Thanks, I see the name’s changed or is this the same WTF has Obama donesofar site. I’ll check it out later.

198. Kim Nethercutt says:

Opulent 2 ~ I had forgotton about the Lily Ledbetter Act; it was the bill that became the first act of congress signed by the new President Obama since his assumption of office on January 20. Very groovy indeed! Thanks for adding that in..
Love love love this site..many thanks!

199. JenSeasLang says:

Just stumbled upon this site after looking for photos of the Chicago Rally yesterday – Oct. 30, 2010. I took my son and had the honor of shaking our President’s hand! Too many Americans do not realize what he has accomplished! Great site!

200. Kim Nethercutt says:

One of the best presidents this country has ever had.

201. Vettte says:

Accomplishment #91 – He shook Opulent’s hand.

202.
Obama accomplished what no prior Democrat could in expanding coverage to 32 million more Americans while simultaneously reducing the deficit by an estimated $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years.
So is this why the Federal Debt ceiling will need to be raised when Congress returns to session after the elections?

I wonder IF this promise of how Health Care reform will reduce the federal deficit DOES NOT pan out (especially as people are selling it as a “Santa Claus list” of services they will receive) if YOU and others will admit that in your passion to promote Obama and the Democrats you failed to listen to reason?

Do you see the riots over in Europe in the nations that have the type of “social justice” that you are hoping to implement here? Not only are these systems not sustainable – the Black communities in these nations in question have not been magically ‘saved’. If anything they have LESS political representation over there than we do here.

Beyond “Struggling” is there any thing that you can go into our LOCAL communities and sell someone on about “Progressivism”?

203. dannie22 says:

My President has been WORKIN’ it!!!!

And all the time he remains humble. PBO is the vessel for good and he respects what God sent him here to do. Another reason why I love our President so much.

• Prantha says:

I love him too.

• Edward Lazarus says:

And why not, Prantha? If the accomplishments of ALL republican presidents in the previous century were to be added up, they will not BEGIN to compare to President Obama’s first two years.
Too bad the “haters” have trapped themselves in their false narrative…leaving themselves unable to enjoy having a president who really gives a damn about the working/middle class.
But—-that’s THEIR loss!

• THIS

Speak on it!

• shriver says:

I Believe he has done more for this Country than any President for Decades now <3

204. Ametia says:

And he and his administration have accomplished all of the above in less than two years.

Gratitude opens the mind and heart to recognize and receive life’s truest blessings.

THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT!
