First Lady Michelle Obama will pay tribute to the art form of dancing by inviting The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to the White House and to honor the theater’s artistic director Judith Jamison.
Michelle Obama has invited dancers from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to the White House.
The performers will kick off a series celebrating American dance on September 7 as part of an event honoring the theater’s artistic director Judith Jameson. The show, starting at 5 p.m. in White House’s East Room, will feature a number of styles, including ballet, contemporary and hip-hop.

Hello! Loving this post. Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Judith Jamison are my absolute favorite dance company.
It’s important because they are a premiere dance company and a part of American culture.
Being the first in a series of dance companies to get invited to the WH, they set a precedent for other dance companies to follow.
In 1999, Judith Jamison received a Kennedy Centers Honors Award, but getting invited to the White House as the first dance comapny, that is the ULTIMATE medal. IMHO. Kudos! I can’t wait until this series airs.

Indeed! AADT is as American as apple pie and Chevolet.
Dance is a form of worship, particularly a huge swath of this style of dance.
For me, worship is truly were your heart is, not necessarily in a building or temple. AADT does provide this kind of experience.
