GQ was an American group formed in 1978 in The Bronx, New York, primarily noted for its success in Disco music. The core membership of the group commenced playing professionally, under different group names, as of 1968.
GQ was first formed in 1968 as a quartet called Sabu & the Survivors, with “Sabu” being a moniker of member Keith Crier. The group then evolved in the 1970s as The Rhythm Makers, playing primarily funk music. The Rhythm Makers were composed of Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Keith “Sabu” Crier (bass and vocals),[1] Herb Lane (keyboards and vocals) and Kenny Banks (drums and vocals). The group released one album, Soul On Your Side in 1976, from which the group had one major international dancefloor hit, “Zone”. At the time that Kenny Banks left The Rhythm Makers and was replaced by Paul Service in 1978, the group’s manager suggested that the group name be changed to “GQ”, which stood for “good quality”.[

Before he’d served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds — including this white, straight, 57-year-old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter — are sticking with our President. Why?– because he is succeeding.
We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us.
Obama’s steady supporters will be proved right. Obama’s critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.

Juan Williams Actually Starts to Point Out the Astroturf Funding for the Tea Party on Fox News Sunday
Oh my. Juan Williams probably didn’t make his overlord Rupert Murdoch too happy with this segment on Fox News Sunday. What’s next? Him letting everyone know that one of their owners is a sponsor of the “ground zero mosque” that’s not a mosque? The horror! Williams actually dares to point out that outside groups like the health care industry and the oil industry are funding the “Tea Party” astroturf movement.
I found it fairly humorous to hear the rest of them on the panel pretend like this is not just the fringe right of the GOP while admitting that the so called “movement” has been good for Republicans in the mid-term elections with energizing their base and that they’ve not taken the movement outside of the party. Well of course they haven’t. The teabaggers are the Republican Party and as we’ve said before, nothing but a re-branding effort to get that Bush stink off of the name. And note to Liz Cheney, if there’s an “elite” sitting at the table, it’s you, not Juan Williams. Your butt would not have had the job you did at the State Department or be sitting on Fox News as a panelist if it weren’t for your daddy.

House Republicans to outline new election-year agenda focused on pocketbook issues, security
House Republicans are planning to unveil a roughly 20-point election-year policy agenda Thursday at a hardware store in suburban Virginia.
GOP officials said party leaders will go public with a plan focused on jobs, spending, health care, national security and reforming Congress. They’ll brief lawmakers on it late Wednesday.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the plan. It comes six weeks before midterm congressional elections in which Democrats are bracing for major losses, possibly big enough to cost them control of the House.
Republicans unveiled their “Contract with America” on Sept. 20, 1994, some six weeks before gaining 54 seats and seizing control of the House for the first time in 40 years.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke to reporters in his home state over the weekend and said that recent Tea Party victories over GOP establishment candidates are a sign that some of the party mainline in D.C. is “getting spanked.”
“I think the Republican establishment in D.C. is getting spanked and deserves it,” Huckabee said. “Frankly, I’m thrilled that they’re getting a little kicking in the backside over the races like in Delaware, because there has been this elitist and pompous, contemptuous attitude toward a lot of the grassroots.”

Bridge fire disrupts Metro North train service

EAST HARLEM (WABC) — A large fire is burning under Metro North’s 138th Street Lift Bridge in East Harlem.
The bridge’s four tracks carry Metro-North trains in and out of Manhattan.
There is currently no Metro-North service at the moment in and out of Grand Central Terminal.
Southbound trains are being held in the Bronx. Northbound trains are not permitted to leave Manhattan.
All Metro-North train traffic passes over the bridge on the Harlem River. Like many of the Harlem River bridges, it rarely opens except for periodic testing by the DOT.
The fire is burning through wooden piers in the river, which are intended to keep boats from hitting the station.
A Metro-North official says they will not be running train service over the bridge “anytime soon.”
The railroad will likely set up shuttle service until the bridge is inspected and its structural integrity is confirmed.

(AP, JEANNINE AVERSA) It’s official: The longest recession the country has endured since World War II ended in June 2009, according to a group that dates the beginning and end of recessions.
The National Bureau of Economic Research, a panel of academic economists based in Cambridge, Mass., says the recession lasted 18 months. It started in December 2007 and ended in June 2009. That was the longest of any recession since World War II. Previously the longest postwar downturns were those in 1973-1975 and in 1981-1982. Both of those lasted 16 months.
The decision makes official what many economists have believed for some time, that the recession ended in the summer of 2009. The economy started growing again in the July-to-September quarter of 2009, after a record four straight quarters of declines. Thus, the April-to-June quarter of 2009, marked the last quarter when the economy was shrinking. At that time, it contracted just 0.7 percent, after suffering through much deeper declines. That factored into the NBER’s decision to pinpoint the end of the recession in June.

The gathering’s scheduled to take place on October 30 and is a direct call out of Beck, whose “Restoring Honor” rally made headlines back in August when it was held in Washington on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
And who’s invited? According to the website for Restoring Sanity:

Steve King Demands ‘Blood Oath’ From Boehner To Shut Down The Government

Earlier this year, radical right-wing congressman Steve King (R-IA) introduced a discharge petition in the House to repeal health reform. Thus far, his measure has attracted 173 signatures. Rep. Gene Taylor (D-MS) became the first Democrat last week to sign the petition. King told conservative blogger Ed Morrissey he’s “likely to get more Democrats.”
But King seems more worried that the leadership of his Republican caucus — some of whom have said they won’t campaign for a full health care repeal — won’t carry through with a pledge to repeal ObamaCare. Roll Call reports that King is now demanding a “blood oath” from House Minority Leader John Boehner to include a repeal of health care reform in every appropriations bill next year, even if a government shutdown results:
“We must not blink,” he said, noting that money cannot be spent without the House voting to pass it. “If the House says no, it’s no.”
Their new tea party backers won’t tolerate anything less than a full repeal of the health care law, he said.
“They will leave us if we go wobbly,” he said. “I am worried about that, but that’s why I think it’s got to be a blood oath.”

White House and Congressional Democratic strategists are trying to energize dispirited Democratic voters over the coming six weeks, in hopes of limiting the party’s losses and keeping control of the House and Senate. The strategists see openings to exploit after a string of Tea Party successes split Republicans in a number of states, culminating last week with developments that scrambled Senate races in Delaware and Alaska.
“We need to get out the message that it’s now really dangerous to re-empower the Republican Party,” said one Democratic strategist who has spoken with White House advisers but requested anonymity to discuss private strategy talks.
