GQ was an American group formed in 1978 in The Bronx, New York, primarily noted for its success in Disco music. The core membership of the group commenced playing professionally, under different group names, as of 1968.

GQ was first formed in 1968 as a quartet called Sabu & the Survivors, with “Sabu” being a moniker of member Keith Crier. The group then evolved in the 1970s as The Rhythm Makers, playing primarily funk music. The Rhythm Makers were composed of Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Keith “Sabu” Crier (bass and vocals),[1] Herb Lane (keyboards and vocals) and Kenny Banks (drums and vocals). The group released one album, Soul On Your Side in 1976, from which the group had one major international dancefloor hit, “Zone”. At the time that Kenny Banks left The Rhythm Makers and was replaced by Paul Service in 1978, the group’s manager suggested that the group name be changed to “GQ”, which stood for “good quality”.[

Obama Will Triumph — So Will America
    By Frank Schaeffer

Before he’d served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds — including this white, straight, 57-year-old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter — are sticking with our President. Why?– because he is succeeding.

We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us.

Obama’s steady supporters will be proved right. Obama’s critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.

Juan Williams Actually Starts to Point Out the Astroturf Funding for the Tea Party on Fox News Sunday

Oh my. Juan Williams probably didn’t make his overlord Rupert Murdoch too happy with this segment on Fox News Sunday. What’s next? Him letting everyone know that one of their owners is a sponsor of the “ground zero mosque” that’s not a mosque? The horror! Williams actually dares to point out that outside groups like the health care industry and the oil industry are funding the “Tea Party” astroturf movement.

I found it fairly humorous to hear the rest of them on the panel pretend like this is not just the fringe right of the GOP while admitting that the so called “movement” has been good for Republicans in the mid-term elections with energizing their base and that they’ve not taken the movement outside of the party. Well of course they haven’t. The teabaggers are the Republican Party and as we’ve said before, nothing but a re-branding effort to get that Bush stink off of the name. And note to Liz Cheney, if there’s an “elite” sitting at the table, it’s you, not Juan Williams. Your butt would not have had the job you did at the State Department or be sitting on Fox News as a panelist if it weren’t for your daddy.

WALLACE: Juan, you know, I want to get back to this point. At least seven states that we counted, tea party insurgent candidates beat the Republican establishment candidates. I don’t think you can ignore the fact that there’s a sea change going on here inside the Republican Party.

WILLIAMS: I don’t see how you can get away from the idea that there’s a, I guess, civil war or whatever you want to call it going on within the party for exactly what does the Republican Party represent.

In fact, so much money that is funding the tea party clearly now is coming from outside the Republican establishment, some of it coming from, I guess, the health care industry, some of it from the oil industry. They’re all angry at Barack Obama.

  4. GOP to unveil new ‘Contract with America’ Thursday

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/09/gop-unveil-contract-americastyle-plan-thursday/

House Republicans to outline new election-year agenda focused on pocketbook issues, security

House Republicans are planning to unveil a roughly 20-point election-year policy agenda Thursday at a hardware store in suburban Virginia.

GOP officials said party leaders will go public with a plan focused on jobs, spending, health care, national security and reforming Congress. They’ll brief lawmakers on it late Wednesday.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the plan. It comes six weeks before midterm congressional elections in which Democrats are bracing for major losses, possibly big enough to cost them control of the House.

Republicans unveiled their “Contract with America” on Sept. 20, 1994, some six weeks before gaining 54 seats and seizing control of the House for the first time in 40 years.

  6. Vettte says:

Looking at the TownHall meeting on MSNBC, Obama just lost me. Clinton would have answered that question directly with concrete specifics. POTUS spent 4 minutes talking about what he did with the auto industry. I cant even remember the question now about how this man is going to preserve his business for his son. Geesh, gotta do better Mr. President.

    • Come on, Vettte!

This woman is a fk plant. I believe with all my soul she was a plant.

      • Vettte says:

I didnt hear her SG2, have to watch the tape.

      • Vettte says:

What happened to the POTUS’ reply? I didnt feel she was a “plant”, just expressing how many, many people feel. Are you thinking that AAs arent supposed to feel the way most middle class whites do?

      • Ametia says:

Your question is a fair and legit one, Vette. And yes, if Black are feeling it, they have every right to express how they feel.

I want to see the entire town hall. I’m wondering just who the sista was defending teh POTUS to, herself, her family, white folks?

      • She doesn’t have to defend the President. Let her vote republican the next time around and see just how much they’re going to help her black ass. Where was she when Bush was driving the economy into the ground? Got dammit, I’m furious w/ her.

      • Don’t be fooled, Vette. This woman ain’t hurting too damn bad so that she has to eat beans & franks. She has kids in private school. It’s not that AA aren’t suppose to feel the way middle class whites feel. It’s about spewing republican talking points. I smell fish and it ain’t Friday. This was a set up sure as your name!

  7. Woman at Town Hall Meeting Tired of Defending President Obama

    • Ametia says:

POTUS is suppose to have the answer to this man’s problem? Vette, come on now.

      • Vettte says:

He has to be better with the solutions or stop having meetings until he has something new to say. Its only going to get worse if the Rethugs take over after Nov 2. Needs s class in “Spin 501”,

      • Ametia says:

Something new to say? I’ll give you that some of his message is the same, but in order for some folks to get any of his message, he has to repeat, and repeat and repeat. Look at how the soundbites of his town hall have been chopped into bits already.

  8. Town Hall Questioner To Obama: “I’m Exhausted Of Defending You”
    ….said the hankyhead coon.

“I’m one of your middle class Americans. And quite frankly, I’m exhausted. Exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for,” a woman told President Obama at a town hall.

The most disgusting piece of bullshit ever spewed. Fk house ni**a!

    • Ametia says:

WUH? me thinks this slave-catcher was a plant. **rolls eyes** sighs

      • I wanna break something because the MSM is trying to ignore what the President stated in the Town Hall. They want to spin the sound bite from the hankyhead. President Obama went to CNBC and straight up called out the tea party starter, Rick Santelli! It’s was on & poppin!

      • Ametia says:

Damn! Can you post the video when available, please? Thanks

      • Ametia says:

From what I can see, the town hall has been split up into video soundbites. Fuck that! We need the entire town hall posted. The MOFO media wants to spin the soudbites.
        Slick muthafu%*kas!

      • I’m checking now for the full video.

      • Ametia says:

I smell CNBC all over this woman. Thank you sNBC for giving me the spotlight for my 15 minutes of fame. Notice how they cut off his response. So all we’re left with is the complaint.

Folks don’t get air time, unless it’s whinning and moaning, and bashing. WTF. And surely if things were so bad, what sacrifices are being made? 2 kids in private school….. I get the feeling that sis aint hurtin too bad… just sayin.

    • Ametia says:

All I can find is the youtube clip of teh sista asking about beans & franks. Is This the only segment that has any meaning for folks?

      • That’s what the haters want folks to see…a black woman stating she having to resort to eating bean & franks under Obama.

      • Ametia says:

Airhead Puffington, Tweety and that cow Howard Fineman are spewing the nonsense about the franks and beans lady on Hardball. I loathe these folks.

      • The woman is a fk plant. She’s a CFO of a company and has kids in private school. Private school is not cheap. She’s a fk plant who couldn’t stop praising CNBC. Gag me with a fk spoon. I smell CNBC all over this bullshit. She is insulting the poor people who are struggling to pay their bills and keep a roof over their head. Damn heffa!

  9. Mike Huckabee: ‘The Republican Establishment In D.C. Is Getting Spanked’

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/20/mike-huckabee-the-republi_n_731387.html

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke to reporters in his home state over the weekend and said that recent Tea Party victories over GOP establishment candidates are a sign that some of the party mainline in D.C. is “getting spanked.”

“I think the Republican establishment in D.C. is getting spanked and deserves it,” Huckabee said. “Frankly, I’m thrilled that they’re getting a little kicking in the backside over the races like in Delaware, because there has been this elitist and pompous, contemptuous attitude toward a lot of the grassroots.”

Huckabee also brushed aside questions about a possible run for president in 2012, saying that he is focused on the current election cycle and working to “get a new Congress.”

Bridge fire disrupts Metro North train service

    http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local&id=7677796

EAST HARLEM (WABC) — A large fire is burning under Metro North’s 138th Street Lift Bridge in East Harlem.

The bridge’s four tracks carry Metro-North trains in and out of Manhattan.

There is currently no Metro-North service at the moment in and out of Grand Central Terminal.

Southbound trains are being held in the Bronx. Northbound trains are not permitted to leave Manhattan.

All Metro-North train traffic passes over the bridge on the Harlem River. Like many of the Harlem River bridges, it rarely opens except for periodic testing by the DOT.

The fire is burning through wooden piers in the river, which are intended to keep boats from hitting the station.

A Metro-North official says they will not be running train service over the bridge “anytime soon.”

The railroad will likely set up shuttle service until the bridge is inspected and its structural integrity is confirmed.

    • Vettte says:

Okay, so there go the few jobs that Negroes had in Manhattan.

“What do you mean you can’t get into the City? I have a long line of folks from Brooklyn standing outside my office needing yo job…and they don’t know when the Bridge will be fixed? Can’t you take the bus? Okay, if you are not here by Wednesday, I’m just gonna have to let you go because I need somebody in here to work and Mario will work for $10 less per day.”

The Recession Is OVER, Says Economic Panel

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/20/the-recession-is-over-say_n_731450.html#comments

(AP, JEANNINE AVERSA) It’s official: The longest recession the country has endured since World War II ended in June 2009, according to a group that dates the beginning and end of recessions.

The National Bureau of Economic Research, a panel of academic economists based in Cambridge, Mass., says the recession lasted 18 months. It started in December 2007 and ended in June 2009. That was the longest of any recession since World War II. Previously the longest postwar downturns were those in 1973-1975 and in 1981-1982. Both of those lasted 16 months.

The decision makes official what many economists have believed for some time, that the recession ended in the summer of 2009. The economy started growing again in the July-to-September quarter of 2009, after a record four straight quarters of declines. Thus, the April-to-June quarter of 2009, marked the last quarter when the economy was shrinking. At that time, it contracted just 0.7 percent, after suffering through much deeper declines. That factored into the NBER’s decision to pinpoint the end of the recession in June.

    • Vettte says:

Yeah, and there’s NO oil on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, too. It’s official because I just proclaimed it. GMAB!

    • Ametia says:

Ok! Like I would ever beleive these folks. These same fools couldn’t see the economy going down the shithole, yet want to proclaim they’re experts now. GMAFB too!

  12. Jon Stewart Announces “Restoring Sanity” Rally

    http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/09/jon_stewart_announces_restoring_sanity_rally.html

Get ready. Last night on The Daily Show Jon Stewart announced that he’s taking Glenn Beck toe-to-toe with a “Restoring Sanity” rally, happening on the same day. The gathering’s scheduled to take place on October 30 and is a direct call out of Beck, whose “Restoring Honor” rally made headlines back in August when it was held in Washington on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

And who’s invited? According to the website for Restoring Sanity:

We’re looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it’s appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles.

If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence… we couldn’t. That’s sort of the point.

All this is not to be confused with Stephen Colbert’s efforts to keep fear alive, happening on the same day, at the same place. Liberal conspiracy theorists, eat your hearts out.

  14. Steve King Demands ‘Blood Oath’ From Boehner To Shut Down The Government

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/09/20/steve-king-shutdown-blood-oath/#comments

Earlier this year, radical right-wing congressman Steve King (R-IA) introduced a discharge petition in the House to repeal health reform. Thus far, his measure has attracted 173 signatures. Rep. Gene Taylor (D-MS) became the first Democrat last week to sign the petition. King told conservative blogger Ed Morrissey he’s “likely to get more Democrats.”

But King seems more worried that the leadership of his Republican caucus — some of whom have said they won’t campaign for a full health care repeal — won’t carry through with a pledge to repeal ObamaCare. Roll Call reports that King is now demanding a “blood oath” from House Minority Leader John Boehner to include a repeal of health care reform in every appropriations bill next year, even if a government shutdown results:

“We must not blink,” he said, noting that money cannot be spent without the House voting to pass it. “If the House says no, it’s no.”

Their new tea party backers won’t tolerate anything less than a full repeal of the health care law, he said.

“They will leave us if we go wobbly,” he said. “I am worried about that, but that’s why I think it’s got to be a blood oath.”

Obama Aides Weigh Bid to Tie the G.O.P. to the Tea PartyBy JACKIE CALMES and MICHAEL D. SHEAR
    Published: September 19, 2010

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s political advisers, looking for ways to help Democrats and alter the course of the midterm elections in the final weeks, are considering a range of ideas, including national advertisements, to cast the Republican Party as all but taken over by Tea Party extremists, people involved in the discussion said.

White House and Congressional Democratic strategists are trying to energize dispirited Democratic voters over the coming six weeks, in hopes of limiting the party’s losses and keeping control of the House and Senate. The strategists see openings to exploit after a string of Tea Party successes split Republicans in a number of states, culminating last week with developments that scrambled Senate races in Delaware and Alaska.

“We need to get out the message that it’s now really dangerous to re-empower the Republican Party,” said one Democratic strategist who has spoken with White House advisers but requested anonymity to discuss private strategy talks.
