Wexler will endorse Crist on Sunday
    by Jane Musgrave | September 25th, 2010
Former U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, the darling of Democratic Jewish retirees, on Sunday will endorse Gov. Charlie Crist in his independent run for the U.S. Senate, the governor’s campaign announced today.

Confirming rumors that began swirling this week, officials said the former seven-term Democratic Congressman from Boca Raton will endorse Crist during stops in voter-rich retirement communities in western Boca Raton and Tamarac.

“He’s a strong and respected leader in South Florida and he shares many of the same values as Charlie Crist,” said Danny Kanner, the governor’s campaign press secretary. “It’s a major boost for us.”

Since bolting from the GOP in March when it became clear he couldn’t beat Republican Marco Rubio, Crist has been courting moderate and liberal voters. To win the three-way race, he needs to woo them from Democratic candidate U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek.

Durbin Says Democrats Will Back Obama’s Plan on Tax Cuts for Middle Class
    By Ryan J. Donmoyer – Sep 26, 2010 1:25 PM
Illinois Senator Richard Durbin said Democrats will come together to extend Bush-era tax cuts for low- and middle-income households, including lawmakers who also want to keep the lower rates for high-earning Americans.

Durbin, the Senate’s second-ranking Democrat, said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program that “some Republicans” will also vote to keep lower taxes for only the first $250,000 of a married couple’s income, as President Barack Obama proposes.

At least five Senate Democrats and all 41 Republicans say Bush-era tax cuts should be extended across-the-board to help the economy recover from the worst recession since World War II.

Democrats control 59 seats in the Senate; party leaders last week said they would delay a vote until after November’s midterm elections, after concluding that, before the balloting, they wouldn’t find 60 votes needed to advance the measure.

“Some Democrats would say, ‘Well, perhaps we would do it a little bit differently,’” Durbin said. “But if that position doesn’t prevail, and I don’t think it will, then the ultimate choice is going to be whether or not we have the $250,000 income threshold for these tax cuts.

“I think at that time we’ll have the support of all the Democrats as well as some Republicans,” Durbin said.

So How Did the Bush Tax Cuts Work Out for the Economy?
David Cay Johnston | Sep. 24, 2010 08:02 PM EDT

The 2008 income tax data are now in, so we can assess the fulfillment of the Republican promise that tax cuts would produce widespread prosperity by looking at all the years of the George W. Bush presidency.

Just as they did in 2000, the Republicans are running this year on an economic platform of tax cuts, especially making the tax cuts permanent for the richest among us. So how did the tax cuts work out? My analysis of the new data, with all figures in 2008 dollars:

Total income was $2.74 trillion less during the eight Bush years than if incomes had stayed at 2000 levels.

That much additional income would have more than made up for the lack of demand that keeps us mired in the Great Recession. That would mean no need for a stimulus, although it would not have affected the last administration’s interfering with market capitalism by bailing out irresponsible Wall Streeters instead of letting the market determine their fortunes.

In only two years was total income up, but even when those years are combined they exceed the declines in only one of the other six years.

Anheuser lines up 500,000 free Budweisers to halt US sales slide

    • Budweiser giveaway is start of huge promotional push
    • Brand’s growth abroad contrasts with decline at home

Andrew Clark in New York guardian.co.uk, Sunday 26 September 2010 15.42 BST

Budweiser, the most popular beer brand in America, is kicking off a massive promotional push with a nationwide giveaway of 500,000 free samples in US bars, pubs and restaurants in an effort to shore up an alarming erosion in sales.

Owned by the Belgian multinational Anheuser-Busch InBev, Budweiser is struggling to attract younger drinkers who prefer low-calorie light beers or more exotically flavoured craft beers. Sales were down 9.5% last year, according to the trade publisher Beer Marketer’s Insights, the brand’s steepest decline on record.

Anxious to reinvigorate demand, Anheuser has declared a “Budweiser National Happy Hour” for this Wednesday and is planning to give away half a million servings by mid-October.

“This is just the beginning,” said Benj Steinman, president of Beer Marketer’s Insights. “Anheuser-Busch InBev is very, very serious – it’s determined to get this brand back on track because of its international importance. But it’s going to be a tough battle.”

While Budweiser is doing well outside the US, its home market appears to have tired of the red bottle, sharp fizzy taste and sports-focused advertising with slogans such as “Whassup?”.

Eddie Long says he will not try his case in the media but in the courts of justice.
He’s been accused, he’s under attack.

    • Vettte says:

What’s sad is that New Birth Church does not have the deep pockets of the Catholic Church or Tiger Woods and clearly they will be the ones held liable. This is not about the reputation of Eddie Long but more about getting paid for “pain and suffering”. The cases in the Catholic Church and Tiger Woods raised that bar way over New Births head. Now that Long’s hypocrisy has been revealed the media is going to dig in with 10 shovels. America is forgiving but detests hypocrites. So, Long has to do more than discredit the young boys, he has to prove his innocence in these matters. He said he was going to fight the cases but never denied his guilt (just about gave and admissions with his “Im not perfect” comments).

This is not so much about Long’s guilt anymore as it is the church’s liability. Remember, he has not denied guilt. Pocket books will close and legal costs will mount. How much can New Birth withstand?

    • Vettte says:

We, as a community, can go thru this AGAIN, THIS AINT OUR FIRST RODEO, WE FALL DOWN AND GET UP AND SO WILL EDDIE LONG:

Remember Henry Lyons and his wife burning down the house about 15 years ago, he tried to come back:

2009- The Rev. Henry J. Lyons is mounting a bid to lead the National Baptist Convention USA again, a decade after he was convicted for swindling more than $5.2 million from the organization’s corporate partners and then served nearly five years in state prison.

His campaign theme: “Restore the love, and repair the breach.”

During the group’s meeting last month in Nashville, Tenn., the Tampa pastor emerged as one of two candidates for convention president. The group, claiming more than 7.5 million members…

      HE DIDNT WIN

  11. Vettte says:

If Eddie Long is prolonging the inevitable, its just going to make the situation worse and more people will be hurt. Its a disservice to the entire AA church as a whole. Just bring the Jim Baker, Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard speeches. Time to parade the young boys out now and produce the DNA evidence. Bring on the Tiger Woods style parade of text messages. Its gonna get ugly now. Aw Eddie, Im disappointed in ya Rev. Go on and “Man Up” and bring the truth. But, Since “no truth” was brought, the congregation will start dropping off now. Pocket books will be held tightly closed. People arent as crazy as Long thinks they are. The Courts of Public Opinion steps up to the Judges Bench now.

But, I guess I cant be surprised cause a black man just aint gonna bring those teary Baker/Swaggart/Haggard type speeches. Gonna deny it to the hilt. Maybe one day just dont come back to the church. That’s the way we roll.

  12. Happy Sunday, 3 Chics!

This is the day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
