Max Alfred “Maxi” Priest (born 10 June 1961) is a British reggae vocalist of Jamaican descent. He is best known for singing reggae music with a R&B influence, otherwise known as reggae fusion, and became one of the first international successes who regularly dabbled in the genre as well as being one of the most successful reggae fusion acts of all-time.
Born in Lewisham, London, Maxi Priest is the second youngest of nine children. His parents moved to England from Jamaica to provide more opportunity for their family and he grew up listening to gospel, reggae, R&B, and pop music. His music is sometimes closer to R&B, and pop, than to reggae music itself. His uncle, Jacob Miller, a reggae icon, was the frontman in the popular reggae group Inner Circle and his son, Ryan Elliott, was a member of the boy band Ultimate Kaos.

The Chicago Board of Elections said no complaints have been filed following allegations that First Lady Michelle Obama violated Illinois election law Thursday.
Obama had visited a Chicago polling place to cast her vote in the upcoming Illinois election. According to the White House pool report, she also spoke to other voters while she was in the polling place.
“She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going,” Dennis Campbell, one of the voters the first lady spoke to, said.
That exchange triggered allegations that Obama violated Illinois election law, which states: “No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place …”
Although the story quickly became the headline on the Drudge Report and received significant attention in the media, the Illinois Board of Election told the Daily Caller Friday that, more than 24 hours after the event, there had been no official complaint.
Jim Allen, public information officer at CBE, noted that Fox News and other media outlets had taped Obama’s visit to the polling place and “nothing could be heard.”

Kaine: GOP efforts to ‘hide donors’ turns campaigning back to Watergate era

Democrats continued to hammer the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for campaign financing, with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine accusing Republicans of turning the campaign back toward the Watergate era.
On MSNBC, Kaine accused the GOP of “running a concerted effort to hide their donors for the American public.”
Democrats have seized on allegations that foreign money is helping fund campaign ads from organizations such as the Chamber. White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod said last Sunday that it was up to the Chamber to disprove those claims.
“The Republicans have made a concerted effort this cycle to funnel as much of the campaign financing as possible to secret groups,” Kaine said. “By doing that, they`ve turned back on 35 years of development that came out of the Watergate scandal towards openness and transparency.”
“…We`re pointing this out because we think the polling suggests, but more important, the right and wrong of this suggests that the Republicans are pushing a secret agenda,” Kaine added on Keith Olbermann’s show.
Kaine claimed that all DNC funds “come from individuals, we don’t raise money from corporations, PACs or federal lobbyists, and we’re raising more money than we`ve ever raised in our history in the midterm elections.”
Kaine added that polling was on the Democrats’ side when pushing the campaign financing issue.

ST. LOUIS—Democrats say it is critical that they turn out African American voters this November. But for Robin Carnahan, the party’s nominee for Senate in Missouri, that is proving to be a tricky proposition.
The key to energizing black voters is to persuade them that sending Democrats to Washington is important to President Barack Obama, strategists say. The Democratic National Committee plans to increase an ad campaign targeting black voters here and elsewhere to $3 million. A radio ad mentions Mr. Obama four times. An ad running in African American newspapers says simply: “Stand with President Obama..”
Yet, Ms. Carnahan is keeping a distance from the president and Democratic leaders.
