Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson, June 7, 1958) is a singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He has been known under the unpronounceable symbol 
, which he used between 1993 and 2000. During that period he was frequently referred to in the media as “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince“, often abbreviated to “TAFKAP“, or simply “The Artist“[1]
According to Robert Larsen in his book, History of Rock and Roll, Prince is “one of the most talented and commercially successful pop musicians of the last 20 years”, producing ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career.[2] Prince founded his own recording studio and label, writing, self-producing and playing most, or all, of the instruments on his recordings.[2] In addition, Prince has been a “talent promoter” for the careers of Sheila E., Carmen Electra, The Time and Vanity 6,[2] and has written songs for these artists and others (including Chaka Khan, The Bangles, and Sinéad O’Connor).
Prince also has several hundred unreleased songs in his “vault”.[3][4] He has won seven Grammy Awards,[5] a Golden Globe,[6] and an Academy Award.[7] He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year he was eligible.[8]

With Democrats increasingly outraged over the Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision that allowed unlimited corporate spending in elections — a change conservatives have been more successful at taking advantage of — a Democratic congressman is raising the prospect of impeaching the Supreme Court’s chief justice over the issue.
“I mean, the Supreme Court has done a tremendous disservice to the United States of America,” Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) told The Huffington Post on Tuesday. “They have done more to undermine our democracy with their Citizens United decision than all of the Republican operatives in the world in this campaign. They’ve opened the floodgates, and personally, I’m investigating articles of impeachment against Justice Roberts for perjuring during his Senate hearings, where he said he wouldn’t be a judicial activist, and he wouldn’t overturn precedents.”

Officials are expecting big crowds, tight security and traffic delays for President Barack Obama’s rally at the University of Southern California Friday.
The event, aimed at igniting support for Democratic candidates Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown, who will also be in attendance, was moved to Alumni Park to make room for larger crowds.
The event is free and open to the public. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the program begins at 11 a.m. Entertainer Jamie Foxx and rock group Ozomatli are scheduled to perform.
Attendees should bring as little as possible; security will be tight. Prohibited items include: laptop computers, sharp objects, metal or plastic drink bottles, folding chairs, backpacks and bags or purses larger than a standard sheet of paper, all posters or signs of any size. No food or drink can be carried in. Small cameras will be permitted.
Attendees should enter from Trousdale Parkway, south of W. 34th Street.
With multiple street closures around the university planned, people are encouraged to take public transit to the event. However, Metro said security may require some bus lines to be detoured from their regular routes. The Silver Line is expected to be a popular option for travelers from the San Gabriel Valley, with stops at Union Station, 7th Street/Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles and near the USC campus.

As hundreds of people started lining up Friday morning at USC for President Obama’s rally for Sen. Barbara Boxer, streets around downtown L.A. and the campus were about to be closed and bus lines detoured.
The White House also announced that Obama will be visiting a Glendale television studio for an interview after the USC rally Friday afternoon but that it would not involve any public event.
The Los Angeles road closures are expected to begin around 9 a.m., and officials are warning of significant delays. Several South L.A. thoroughfares will be closed for more than six hours in the afternoon and during rush hour.
They also will be closed from 9:30 to 11:25 a.m., although some cars and pedestrians will be screened and allowed in, LAPD officials said.
Anyone traveling “in and around the USC campus” should expect delays and are encouraged to “plan another route if possible,” LAPD officials said in a statement.

A fringe Republican House candidate in Texas said Thursday that the armed overthrow of the government is “on the table.”
“Our nation was founded on violence,” Stephen Broden, a pastor who is seeking to unseat Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Texas’s 30th District, told an interviewer on WFAA-TV in Dallas. “The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should ever remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms.” He clarified that armed revolution is “not the first option.”

New YORK — Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has found an admirer in John Mellencamp.
The legendary rocker says that while he doesn’t support her positions, he is impressed by the mark she’s made on the country since the 2008 election.
Mellencamp says people get the wrong idea about her intellect “just because she says things and winks.”
He says she “knows exactly what’s she doing” and “she wouldn’t be where she is today if she didn’t.”
Mellencamp gives Palin credit for handling the rough world of politics. He says “she’s pushing the right buttons” and “you can’t be stupid and do that.”
The 59-year-old rocker is no stranger to the political arena. He supported Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008 and asked Palin’s running mate, John McCain, to stop using his songs at rallies.

ST. MARC, Haiti — At least 142 people have died in a cholera outbreak, and aid groups are rushing in medicine and other supplies Friday to combat Haiti’s deadliest health problem since its devastating earthquake.
Haiti’s President Rene Preval confirmed the outbreak of cholera Friday in the quake-hit country’s central region, saying his government was taking measures to try to stop the disease spreading.
“I can confirm it is cholera,” Preval told Reuters, as Haitian and international health officials confronted the poor Caribbean nation’s medical crisis.
The outbreak in the rural Artibonite region, which hosts thousands of quake refugees, appeared to confirm relief groups’ fears about sanitation for homeless survivors living in tarp cities and other squalid settlements.
“We have been afraid of this since the earthquake,” said Robin Mahfood, president of Food for the Poor, which was preparing to fly in donations of antibiotics, dehydration salts and other supplies.
