Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr.

(April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), better known by his stage name Marvin Gaye, was an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist with a four-octave vocal range.[2] Starting as a member of the doo-wop group The Moonglows in the late fifties, he ventured into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960 signing with the Tamla Records subsidiary of Motown Records. After starting off as a session drummer, Gaye ranked as the label’s top-selling solo artist during the sixties.

Because of solo hits such as “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)“, “Ain’t That Peculiar“, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and his duet singles with singers such as Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell, he was crowned “The Prince of Motown”[3] and “The Prince of Soul”.[4]

Breaking News Alert: MSNBC, Olbermann parting ways
    January 21, 2011 9:09:15 PM
    —————————————-

MSNBC announced Friday night that it and provocative liberal talk-show host Keith Olbermann “have ended their contract.” Olbermann announced at the end of his “Countdown” that it would be his final appearance. No reason for the split was given by either party.

    • Huh? Noooo?

    • dannie22 says:

I just read that Comcast is run by a guy who used to work in the Bush II regime. He wants to push the network far right to compete with Fox.

Of course it wasn’t about ratings. As nuts as KO could be with his “worse person”, swivel chair rantings, he TOLD THE TRUTH.

And we can’t have too much TRUTH TELLING, too close to the 2012 presidential election season. Corporate America OWNS the media and they dictate the information pushed on the airwaves.

No surprises here. I’m fasting from tee vee, and didn’t care for KO any way. Any one with ears and eyes could tell that the corporations are RUNNING the MEDIA. It’s only a matter of time before they try to shut down our voices on the internet.

  2. Sasha Obama Practices Chinese With China’s President

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/obamas-daughter-sasha-pra_n_812142.html

President Obama’s daughter Sasha finally found the perfect study partner for her developing Chinese skills: Chinese President Hu Jintao, in town for a historic state meeting this week.

According to Reuters, the nine-year-old developing polyglot is currently learning Mandarin with her classmates, and sought out the Chinese leader’s assistance in a language exchange, a moment which Hu recalled during a formal state dinner.

“Not every [child] has the opportunity to try out their first phrases of Chinese with the president of China, but she had that chance,” Ben Rhodes, a White House deputy national security adviser, told a video conference with Chinese bloggers. “She’s under 10 years old and they’re studying Chinese, and she wanted to have the chance to practice her Chinese with President Hu.” He went on to note the anecdote illustrated Americans’ desire to get to know China better with more people studying the country and doing business there.

Sasha was in attendance with other members of her class on Wednesday for Hu’s welcoming ceremony, and could be seen waving a Chinese flag.

    Hey Now! Go Sasha!

  3. MLK Parade Bomb Investigation Yields New Clues

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/mlk-parade-bomb-shirts_n_812249.html

SPOKANE, Wash. — The two T-shirts found with a bomb placed along a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade route in Spokane both came from the same nearby county.

The FBI released photos of the shirts found inside a backpack containing the bomb, which was discovered on a bench Monday before the parade started and was defused without incident.

One of the shirts was distributed last year at the “Relay for Life” race in Colville, the seat of Stevens County.

The origin of the second shirt – which had the words “Treasure Island Spring 2009” on the front – wasn’t immediately clear. But after the photos were released, residents called the FBI and media to report the shirt was from a local theater production in 2009 in the town of Chewelah, 50 miles north of Spokane.

Colville and Chewelah are both in Stevens County, which borders Spokane County and has about 40,000 residents. The FBI declined to comment on whether it was focusing on the rural county.

“We’re not going to comment on specific investigative angles,” said Frank Harrill, who heads the FBI office in Spokane.

“This investigation is and will remain wide-ranging,” Harrill said. “It’s premature to attempt to assume any particular direction.

Tips from the public continue to pour in, and the search for the bomber could be lengthy, he said.

The bomb was placed on a metal bench with a brick wall behind that would have directed shrapnel toward Main Street, where marchers were expected to pass, investigators said.

    Williams insists she won’t retire
By Andrew Dent (AFP) – 9 hours ago

MELBOURNE — Venus Williams insisted Friday she had no intention of retiring from tennis despite being forced to withdraw from her third round Australian Open match against Germany’s Andrea Petkovic.

Williams, who injured the psoas muscle in her groin area during her previous match against Czech Sandra Zahlavova on Wednesday, decided after just seven points against Petkovic that she couldn’t continue.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner had a poor lead-up to the Australian Open. She had not played a tournament since last year’s US Open after developing tendonitis in her right knee.

Now 30, Williams said she didn’t know when she would be able to return to the court, but added that when she did, she would be completely fit.

“When I come back to play next time, I’ll be a 100 percent so I won’t be back until whenever that is,” she told reporters after the match.

But she stressed she would back.

“Well, I’m still pretty good, even when I’m injured,” she said

The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank is considering a self-imposed hiatus from all things Sarah Palin after being concerned that he’s written no less than 42 columns on the former governor since 2008, when Sen. John McCain picked her to be his presidential running mate. Psshhh. We’ve written 42 articles on Palin in a day.

What’s more, Milbank is calling on others in the media to resist covering every word, move, clothing purchase and accusations of blood libel made by Wasilla’s most famous export:

I feel powerless to control my obsession, even though it cheapens and demeans me.

But today is the first day of the rest of my life. And so, I hereby pledge that, beginning on Feb 1, 2011, I will not mention Sarah Palin – in print, online or on television – for one month. Furthermore, I call on others in the news media to join me in this pledge of a Palin-free February. With enough support, I believe we may even be able to extend the moratorium beyond one month, but we are up against a powerful compulsion, and we must take this struggle day by day.

LOL Dana and nem are trying to distance themselves from the Crosshairs woman. We’re on to them, and it’s too late. When she pulled that stunt, she was seen as all “cutesy & mavericky, mama grizzly” And now after one of her crosshair targets actually GETS SHOT, they want to run from her.

      • They propped her up to run against the black guy. But it backfired big time! If a black Sarah Palin had spewed that kind of hateful rhetoric & placed crosshairs on opposing candidates and someone died…she’d be in jail in 3-2-1.

  7. Paul Ryan To Deliver GOP State Of The Union Response

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/paul-ryan-gop-state-of-the-union-response_n_812163.html

WASHINGTON — Republicans have selected House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan to deliver the party’s speech after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

A Wisconsin Republican, Ryan will play a key role in the GOP drive to cut federal spending this year. Party leaders say his selection was intended to emphasize that objective.

Ryan’s selection was announced by Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell.

Obama will deliver the State of the Union address Tuesday night before a joint session of Congress and a national television audience.

Ryan became chairman of the Budget Committee earlier this month. In a dozen years in Congress, he has consistently sought to reduce federal spending and rein in the cost of benefit programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

Tiger Woods: Nurse files lawsuit against Health Central, saying he was wrongly accused of looking at Woods’ records

nurse fired from Health Central after he was accused of looking at Tiger Woods’ medical records has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Ocoee hospital.

David M. Rothenberg is asking for more than $400,000 in damages, reinstatement and a letter from hospital administrators to the medical and nursing staff explaining that he was fired in December 2009 “based on circumstantial evidence,” the suit says.

Rothenberg could lose his nursing license based on the hospital’s allegations of misconduct.

The hospital also fired pharmacist Dr. Dan Nguyen in December 2009 after a witness told administrators he looked into Woods’ records. However, a review by the Unemployment Appeals Commission granted Nguyen unemployment benefits because they found the pharmacist had legitimate access to those records and did not disclose the confidential information.

“[Health Central] did not present sufficient competent testimony to show the claimant’s action rose to the level of misconduct,” the commission’s report shows. “The hearing officer finds the testimony of [Nguyen] to be more credible.”

  11. Michelle Obama’s State Dinner Dress Bashed By Oscar De La Renta

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/michelle-obama-state-dinner-oscar-de-la-renta_n_812043.html

Although we loved and will continue to openly rave about Michelle Obama’s State Dinner dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, designer Oscar de la Renta remains unimpressed.

He told WWD, “My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade — American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?” adding, “I’m not talking about my clothes, my business. I’m old, and I don’t need it. But there are a lot of young people, very talented people here who do.”

De la Renta made similar comments in April 2009, right after the first lady visited London. He told WWD at the time:

“American fashion right now is struggling. I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don’t think that is the right message at this particular point….I don’t object to the fact that Mrs. Obama is wearing J. Crew to whatever because the diversity of America is what makes this country great. But there are a lot of great designers out there. I think it’s wrong to go in one direction only.”

Oscar…go sit down and stfu! Michelle doesn’t want to wear your designs. Get over your jealousy!

Obama to run presidential reelection effort out of Chicago
    By Anne E. Kornblut
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, January 20, 2011; 11:58 PM

President Obama will run his reelection effort out of Chicago, senior officials said Thursday, a move that will split his top political advisers between his home town and Washington.

White House officials, who had telegraphed the move for months, said they wanted to get out of the nation’s capital to escape the Washington bubble and be more in touch with voters. Some who worked on Obama’s 2008 campaign, also based in Chicago, said there is a deep desire to recapture the in-the-foxhole vibe of that effort.

The move will also allow senior adviser David Axelrod to work closely with the campaign after returning home. For other aides, it will serve as a loyalty test to see who will join them.

The GOP’s rude awakening on health-care repeal
    By Eugene Robinson
    Friday, January 21, 2011

This whole health-care thing isn’t quite working out the way Republicans planned. My guess is that they’ll soon try to change the subject – but I’m afraid they’re already in too deep.
Wednesday’s vote to repeal President Obama’s health insurance reform law was supposed to be a crowning triumph. We heard confident GOP predictions that cowed Democrats would defect in droves, generating unstoppable momentum that forced the Senate to obey “the will of the people” and follow suit. The Democrats’ biggest domestic accomplishment would be in ruins and Obama’s political standing would be damaged, perhaps irreparably.

What actually happened, though, is that the Republican majority managed to win the votes of just three Democrats – all of them Blue Dogs who have been consistent opponents of the reform package anyway. In terms of actual defectors, meaning Democrats who changed sides on the issue, there were none. This is momentum?
