Tonight: DC School Kids Are Guest Chefs As President & First Lady Host Governors’ Dinner
Chefs Move To Schools gets glam: Students from Tubman Elementary School join the White House Chefs in prepping the black tie dinner, featuring Kitchen Garden crops…
There’s another first to add to the long list of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s historic food initiatives. In keeping with Mrs. Obama’s new tradition of inviting guest chefs to help prepare important dinners at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House Chefs are being joined today by some very special guest chefs as they ready the meal for this evening’s glam black tie 2011 Governors’ Dinner, an East Wing spokesman tells ObFo. The President and First Lady will welcome almost fifty of the leaders of America’s states, commonwealths and territories–and their spouses/dinner companions–for tonight’s affair, which will feature a performance by legendary songstress Gladys Knight as well as the Marine Corps Band. Carney rolled with the lighthearted question: “I will ask about the Pips.”
Walker shows no sign of conceding in Wisconsin battle Warns of layoffs of government workers if accord isn’t reached to curb collective bargaining
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday that government workers’ collective bargaining rights have caused unsustainable costs and stuck to his demand that bargaining rights be curtailed for most public workers.
“If we do not get these changes, and the Senate Democrats don’t come back, we’re going to be forced to make up the savings in layoffs and that to me is just unacceptable,” he said.
Walker has been locked in a battle with his state’s public sector unions for the past four weeks over his proposal to strip the unions of most of their collective bargaining rights. His measure would apply not only to state employees but to those of local governments and school boards around the state.
