Hitting Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in December 1961, the tune Brown co-wrote with Gene Redd peaked at position #76. It appeared on the Christmas Singles chart for nine seasons, hitting #1 in 1972.[2] It includes a number of characteristics of Christmas music, such as multiple references in the lyrics to the Christmas season and Christmas traditions, and the use of a Church bell type sound, created using a piano, at the start of the song. It is sometimes referred to as Bells Will Be Ringing.

    There’s just so much crap off-shooting from this ‘what Trump said’ fiasco that has precious little to do with what we’re supposed to believe this is about…

    May I just ask where all these loud voices and faces have been all these years..?

    A 12 year old boy shot dead in the park holding a toy gun, a young woman mysteriously dead in a jail cell after a routine traffic stop…

    Where have all the voices been..?

    We don’t just get to come on t.v to tsk tsk and warn Trump that his WORDS are so offensive they’re turning Muslims around the world against Americans – Or caution Trump that he can’t be a serious global business player without backing from some wealthy Middle Eastern investor…

    So, Tamir Rice and Sandra Bland and so many others murdered to little fanfare or outrage, and the many black lives that continue to be snuffed out – routinely haunted down like animals, are nothing more than chopped liver…? No economic or political power to speak of so they and their families get no backing, and are out of luck…?

    Sorry, but I’m not impressed…this is just all messed up…

      Just wait for it… maybe the Trump campaign will put out a slogan like: “If you don’t want to give up your racial bigotry/hatred or have it stopped, just vote for Trump.”

      Seems as such a slogan would be in keeping with Trump’s spoutings.

      One of the greatest threats we face today is the more ubiquitous power of media in its various forms – and media power in all the wrong hands..

      It’s that power to do grievous harm through consumption, even when we unaware that we’re consuming…

      It’s media that shapes and controls the narrative and opinions – and by extension, the public who rely on it, and directly and indirectly have their perspectives shaped by it…

      Worse still, by an ironically largely low-information citizenry, who in the midst of so much information and sources good and bad, curiously choose to absorb mostly the erroneous..

      It’s the dangerous and unscrupulous misuse of media in whatever form, by those who wield and manipulate it to suit their usually dubious purposes – the wealthy conglomerates and the oligarchs at the helm, the momentarily empowered ‘journalists’, official videographers and photographers who let ‘power’ go to their heads and get carried away playing God and Russian roulette with people’s lives, in the most insidious and blatant of ways…

    Well, Il Douche went full Nazi yesterday. At a rally, he proposed banning all Muslims from entering the US. The crowd, of course, went wild.

    Various GOP grandees clutched their pearls and averred that this was unconstitutional, un-American, and bad politics. Even Dick “Darth Vader” Cheney snapped back at Il Douche. (Of course, he was probably mostly concerned with his rich Saudi friends not being able to visit him at his secure, undisclosed location.)

    Forgive me if I take their protestations with an ounce of salt.

    The GOP, for 50 years, has covertly stoked racism among the white working class, the people who feel disenfranchised since the social justice movements of the 1960s and who form the bedrock of the Republican voting base. As a wise Republican once said, you can no longer say “nigger”, but you can say “welfare queen”, or “forced busing”. The code is understood.

    What Il Douche has done is say “Screw the code words” and come out full bore on the racist angle. If you thought it would stop with his anti-Latino diatribes, you were sorely mistaken. (They came for the Latinos, and I did nothing, for I was not from Mexico.)

    No, he doesn’t say “nigger” or “wetback” or “raghead”. He doesn’t have to. His rhetoric is suffused with the meaning those epithets convey. One doesn’t have to say the offending word when one’s speech is an avalanche of racist tropes. He even got digs in at Jews in his speech at the Republican Jewish conference, and they gave him a standing ovation.

    Sure, Il Douche is pulling 30% of 30% of the population. But you don’t have to start out with a majority to steamroll your way to success in politics. And what he has done is give the base what it’s craved: Someone who will “tell it like it is”. Forget that this (hopefully) makes him toxic in a general election, where many of “those” people will turn out to vote as if their lives depend on it. Il Douche is performance art for the disaffected, for white people who were promised eternal dominance and now see that blowing away like a tattered Confederate battle flag.

        One of these days you fam will come to understand why I’m super-protective of, and speak out often and unapologetically – and devotedly and unabashedly worship at the feet of the incontrovertibly brilliant, perceptive and wise first black First Lady of the United States…why she’s been singled out and so unrelentingly and viciously targeted, and with such unbelievably virulent hatred, by those determined to not only undermine and discredit her, but more importantly, to do as much damage as they possibly can to her, her reputation, her psyche, her being – and everything she holds dear…

        And by ‘they’, I not only mean the right-wingers, or the across-party racists, but some who purport to support the President – and some who freely rove about in the White House and are fixtures in the President’s inner circle and sphere..

    John McCain’s invention Sarah Palin was infinitely more flippant and more dangerous than Trump – but you’d never guess it with the media’s new-found outrage and focus on Trump – Designed entirely to knock him off the top billing on behalf of the Neocon/GOP establishment who have their preferred candidate(s) – candidates who by the way see things no differently from Trump – languishing at the bottom of the polls…

    But no worse than he, they, it has been for 7+ years coming from our media, politicians and the oligarchs who fund and own them, or our fellow citizens whose now long-congealed racism they’ve helped rouse and embolden.

    Almost 8 long years of unrestrained racist attacks that have even seen law enforcement transferring their personally held racist hate, and meting out instant ‘justice’ on unarmed black kids…murdering innocent black citizens in cold-blood for even daring to breath – or smoke in their own car…MURDERED. IN. COLD. BLOOD. And not a whimper from most.

    And without any apologies or recompense…If anything at all, outrightly justified and excused by some of those now ‘outraged’ at Donald Trump’s words…

    But we’re supposed to get worked up over unpleasant words from Donald Trump that are no worse than the rubbish he’s been spewing for several years – or the many hateful and dangerous public opinions and actions meant to incite – by many of the same now conveniently ‘outraged’…?!

    8 long years of complete silence – and truth be told, acquiescence…assent by some of the very same now ‘outraged’ folks…Folks who still unapologetically hold their very same racial hate –

    But suddenly there’s all this urgent and overflowing sense of moral indignation…? Because, Trump…

    Nothing is ever what it appears to be with our media, politicians – and those who own them…Don’t fall for the okey doke…Don’t be used to advance an entirely different agenda that has nothing to do with what you stand for – or think you’re all about…As good, moral and united as it may make us feel right now…

      They are all saying the same thing. But, the problem with Trump is that he doesn’t speak in Frank Luntz-approved dogwhistles. The dogwhistles enabled the MSM to pretend that the GOP was something other than what it is. The non-dogwhistle forces them to actually try and invent explanations, other than the teeming racism and bigotry that courses through the veins the GOP. It’s been quite interesting to see them try and explain away the racism and bigotry as something other than what it is. And, those of us who call what he’s doing what it is – facism, oh, we’re being ‘ overdramatic’.

      No, we’re not. We’re telling the truth about what he is, and in actuality, the core of what the GOP is.

    It’s a very different world that leading Republican presidential candidates envision once they’re in the White House with support from a GOP-controlled Congress.

    Forget about global warming. They’re all deniers. No need to even negotiate CO2 reduction plans in Paris when you don’t acknowledge climate change even exists, or that humans have anything to do with it. Full speed ahead with fossil fuels — more drilling, more pipelines, more exports, more pollution. No talk of limits.

    We’ll walk away from the Iran deal and our allies who helped forge it, too. First day in office, some say. Reinstate sanctions on our own and threaten to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities regardless of what international inspectors say.

    Forget about the deficits they used to warn would ruin us. They’ve all got plans that cut taxes, mostly for the wealthy, but blow holes in the budget ranging from $3.6 trillion to $12 trillion over a decade.

    That doesn’t include the increased military spending, they promise. Sen. Marco Rubio has a plan to increase the defense budget by $1 trillion over 10 years but no plan to pay for it.

    The Republicans have longed for more military threat and intervention in Iran, in the Ukraine, in Libya, in Syria, in the South China Sea and again in Iraq. The terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino have fueled the fire, encouraging bombast and chest-beating about how strong we’d be if they were in office.

    In their world, the bombing we’re already doing, along with Russia, Turkey and now France and Great Britain, isn’t enough. Donald Trump said he’d “bomb the hell out of ISIS.” Sen. Ted Cruz says he’d “carpet bomb them to oblivion.”

    Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham proposed sending 10,000 troops to Iraq, even though Iraq says it doesn’t want them, and 10,000 more in Syria.

    And while we’re bombing them and taking sides in Syria’s civil war, we’ll turn our backs on the war’s refugees because they’re Muslims.

    Late last week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said publicly what many Republicans prefer to say privately: when it comes to Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R) candidacy, “There’s not a lot of depth there.”

    Helping prove Christie right, Rubio told NBC News on Friday that gun control wouldn’t have prevented the murders in San Bernardino, which is why his focus is elsewhere: “We need bomb control because these people were building bombs.”

    It wasn’t a throwaway line for Rubio, who also told Fox News a few hours earlier, “I don’t hear anybody talking about bomb control. They put bombs, they left bombs behind on the scene of attack, intending to kill even more people than they did with the guns.”

    Daily Kos’ Hunter patiently explained the facts that Rubio doesn’t seem to understand, including the simple truth that we already have “bomb control.”
    You are not allowed to own a bomb, or carry a bomb on your back while visiting your neighborhood Chipotle. Not even if you claim you need a bomb for self-protection, or because you’re afraid there are other people out there with other bombs who might try to bomb you first. We’re not stupid, after all. You cannot buy ready-made bombs at Walmart, because Walmart is not allowed to sell ready-made mass murder devices. Even those Americans that are permitted to own and operate bombs (for example, for excavation purposes) face very, very tight state and federal regulations and restrictions; as for the rest of us, outside of military service we are allowed to be in personal possession of a mass-murder-sized bomb approximately never.

    Perhaps because America has bomb control, our nation faces no epidemic of bomb-related mass murders. There are some – most in recent decades perpetrated by radical far-right groups against government targets or as part of anti-abortion extremism – but we do not have bombs going off on a daily basis in cities around the nation, the bodies piling up in our trauma centers and in our morgues while our politicians wonder what, if anything, should be done. That would seem to offer at least some evidence that our “bomb controls” are, despite the continued ability of some very small band of lunatics to create bombs despite the obstacles we have thrust in their way, working.
    This is well said and entirely accurate, but we can go a little further.

    Suspected American ISIS Recruiter Turns Himself In

    An American fugitive, who officials say is suspected of recruiting impressionable young men for terrorist groups including ISIS and was linked to at least one domestic terror attack in the U.S., has turned himself in to authorities, the State Department announced today.

    Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, known online as “Miski,” surrendered to the government ofSomalia early last month, a State Department spokesperson told reporters. Hassan has been wanted by the FBI since he left the U.S. in 2009 for allegedly providing “material support” to the al Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Shabab in Somalia, often purportedly by convincing young American recruits to join. U.S. officials accuse Hassan of since moving on to recruiting for the Syria-based terror group ISIS.

    Over the weekend ABC News reported that investigators were trying to determine if the couple who killed 14 people in San Bernardino last week had any online connection with Hassan in the months before he turned himself in.
