Warren Petoskey plays his flute at the entrance to the Indian Cemetery at the Carlisle Barracks on Oct. 6, 2012. He had just finished a pipe ceremony to bring peace and healing to himself and his family. Warren’s grandfather and great aunt had attended Carlisle. Oct. 6 also marched the anniversary of the first group of students arriving at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. The Rosebud Sioux in South Dakota have begun efforts to repatriate the remains of the 10 Rosebud students buried on the Carlisle school grounds. Warren had been at the Carlisle Symposium, “Carlisle, PA: Site of Indigenous Histories, Memories, and Reclamations,” held at Dickinson College. CHARLES FOX / Staff Photographer
