In 1981, a man named John Hinckley, Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan in the midsection and Press Secretary James Brady in the head. Both men survived, though Brady was permanently disabled. Hinckley said he’d done it to impress actress Jodie Foster, with whom he was obsessed. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
