Even though 3Chics Politico is written and curated by three women: Ametia, Rikyrah, and SouthernGirl2, I must nominate this as one of the most engaging blogs I've found. Devoted to politics and culture, these three shine a light on contemporary life with humor and spirit.

Mercy; there just can’t be anything more heartbreaking than hearing some sociopath has murdered your child. This is a beautiful tribute to Tracy & Trayvon Martin.
May God Bless and keep you.
Trayvon Martin’s father, mother fight for his image
http://thegrio.com/2013/06/16/trayvon-martins-father-mother-fight-for-his-image/#s:sybrina-fulton_tracy-martin-court-16×9
SANFORD, Fla. — Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton are in the car with their attorney, Ben Crump, after a long day in the Seminole County Criminal Court in Sanford, Florida, where they have been daily observers since jury selection began June 10th, in the trial of George Zimmerman, the man who shot their 17-year-old son Trayvon Martin to death in February 2012. Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
You can’t describe the feeling when you learn that your loved one has been lost. That’s like …” Martin says before trailing off. As the case plays out in court, both parents say they’re fighting a daily battle to preserve the memory of the Trayvon they knew, and to not let him become a media caricature.
“I think one of things that everybody seems to overlook is the fact that, OK, that was our child,” Martin said Wednesday, in a telephone interview with theGrio. “So whatever your opinion is of him, that’s your opinion. At the end of the day that was our child, and we knew our child and we loved him. And no matter what you try to say about him, [or] how you try to spin his image, or you try to assassinate his character, we know his character, we know his image, and it’s up to us to not let you smear him.”
Zimmerman says he shot Martin, who was unarmed, in self-defense after Martin attacked him. Zimmerman, who was a neighborhood watch volunteer, called the non-emergency police line to report seeing someone suspicious as he drove through the gated community in Sanford where he lived.
The shooting has become a matter of political polarization, particularly after President Obama told a news conference last year that if he had a son, “he would look like Trayvon.” It has pierced the cultural landscape: pro athletes, celebrities and members of congress have donned hoodies, introduced resolutions, and reached out to the family, making Martin’s death a symbol of what some see as the profiling of young, black men, and disparate treatment by police. Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, has repeatedly said that “race should not be a factor in the George Zimmerman case and should never have been made one.”

The case had BLOWN up way before President Obama commented. That’s why the media asked him about it. I’m tired of folks lying on Potus. Furthermore, how the hell do you think Potus son would look like? A black mother + black father = black child. It’s not rocket science.
Happy Father’s Day to Mr. Martin.
May God envelope you with love as you and Ms. Fulton are put through the pain of watching that racist sociopath try and get away with murdering your child in cold blood.
Thank you Blackbutterfly7 for this beautiful tribute
@rikyrah. (((hugs)))
Vindicate Trayvon, Lord!
Tell me, Lord, please tell me,
How long will it be until You vindicate this child?
Slander and lies spoken against him.
Please don’t let his enemies triumph over him.
And let the church say “AMEN”!
AMEN!
@SG2. Weeping also. It was a project performed in tears. Tracy loves Trayvon so much. He said on Dr. Phil’s that he talks to Trayvon everyday. “There is no power on earth like your father’s love.”
My heart aches for Trayvon & his family. This could have been avoided if Zimmerman had stayed in the truck. He has hurt so many people & devastated their lives.
@SG2. Zimmerman knows he intended ill-will. Although saying “He ran,” he ALSO said that he didn’t want to give out his address because “I don’t know where this kid is.” That indicates that GZ was looking for Trayvon. When I saw the time of DeeDee’s phone call, in relationship to when GZ changed his tone of voice and asked that the cop call him and he would then tell the cop where to meet him, it became apparent that he heard Trayvon talking on his phone. That gave away where Trayvon was and GZ went on the hunt.
Hopefully, the jury will decide GZ’s case like they did with Dooley; i.e., it was a senseless murder that could have been avoided if not but for the fact that GZ got out of his vehicle and followed Trayvon with a loaded gun.
Xena, I have not heard of the David James / Trevor Dooley case before this so I did some Google searches. Your blog post on January 23, 2013, is excellent. Everyone should read this: http://blackbutterfly7.wordpress.com/tag/trevor-dooley/
I live in Arizona and I can tell you that if it happened here Dooley would have walked.
@Liza.
When I heard Dooley’s testimony that he attempted to walk away and then David ran to him and knocked him down, and David’s daughter testified the same, I thought that was the key to his acquittal. The jury instructions, however, gets them to focus on the beginning rather than the end. To paraphrase how they reached their decision, if not but for the fact that Dooley left his garage/driveway with a loaded gun and approached David James for mouthing off to him, the two would not have come into physical contact. That made Dooley the initial aggressor.
Arizona’s concealed carry and open carry laws are very lenient. So that is why I think it’s very unlikely that Dooley would have been convicted here in AZ because wearing a concealed weapon while walking around your neighborhood is completely legal if you are over 21 and not a “prohibited possessor.” With open carry, the age is 18.
It sounds as though there were three different versions of whether or not Dooley actually pulled the gun out before James physically attacked him. Dooley says he didn’t, witnesses said he “revealed” the gun by pulling up his shirt and then walked away, and the court ruled at Dooley’s immunity hearing that Dooley “reached for and pulled out his weapon.” I find it very confusing because these are not minor differences.
However, I do understand your point. There is no question that Zimmerman’s case is similar in that respect, that Zimmerman was the one who approached with a loaded gun and could have avoided physical contact by staying in his truck and waiting for the police to arrive.
Beautiful, Xena!
You opened the floodgates…
