During his prolific career, which began in the late 1960s when he was aged eleven, he recorded more than 75 albums and was one of the major stars of lovers rock, a sub-genre of reggae. Bob Marley cited Brown as his favourite singer,[1] dubbing him “The Crown Prince of Reggae”, and Brown would prove hugely influential on future generations of reggae singers.

Dennis Brown was born on 1 February 1957 at Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.[4] His father Arthur was a scriptwriter, actor, and journalist, and he grew up in a large tenement yard between North Street and King Street in Kingston with his parents, three elder brothers and a sister, although his mother died in the 1960s.

  1. David Neiwert and the NAACP are very shrill

I’m sorry David, but I’m fairly sure you’re not allowed to say this, regardless of the accuracy of it:

The NAACP has now fully backed up its accusations of racism within the Tea Party movement with a meticulously documented report on the Tea parties’ multifarious connections to racists and various far-right extremists.
The report, “Tea Party Nationalism,” looks at the relationships and differences between the six major Tea Party organizations — FreedomWorks Tea Party, 1776 Tea Party, Tea Party Nation, Tea Party Patriots, ResistNet, and Tea Party Express — and the various ways that each group has established connections with, and empowers, outright racists and white supremacists, as well we far-right “Patriot” extremists of various stripes.

“You liberial scumbags should be hung by the neck in public ! We are on to your voter fraud. Keep it up you MOTHER FUCKERS and you will soon be put down for a long dirt nap! Your nothing but a bunch of white guilt ridden assholes, NIGGERS and greasy mexican spics! The WAR is comming and we are going to dispose of each and every one of you while we take OUR (White) nation back.”

  2. Early Voting Shows Surprising Turnout For Democrats

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/21/early-voting-election-day_n_771047.html

WASHINGTON — Election Day is already over for more than 3 million Americans, and a surprising number of them are Democrats.

Republicans clearly are gaining ground in turning out early voters compared with their showing two years ago, but figures from the first batch of states that offer clues about 2010 early voting patterns still give Democrats an edge in a number of states and big counties.

“If people thought the Democrats were just going to roll over and play dead in this election, that’s not what we’re seeing,” said Michael McDonald, a George Mason University professor who tracks early voting nationally. “They’ve got to be feeling a little bit better with the numbers that they’re seeing.”

While it’s impossible to tell for whom people are voting, so far more Democrats than Republicans are casting ballots in Iowa, Maryland, North Carolina, Louisiana and Nevada’s heavily Democratic Clark County, which supplied two-thirds of the state’s voters in 2008.

Republicans are flexing their organizational muscles and leading the pace in Florida, even though Democrats have the edge in registered voters there, and in Colorado. The parties are running about even in Maine. Ohio’s early voting trends reflect the state’s swing-voting status: Democrats are ahead in the party stronghold of Cuyahoga County around Cleveland, while Republicans lead in GOP territory of Hamilton County, which is home to Cincinnati. Ballots are virtually even in Franklin County, which anchors fickle central Ohio.

  3. Raul Grijalva’s Office On Lockdown After Swastika-Covered Suspicious Package Arrives

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/21/raul-grijalva-suspicious-package_n_772166.html#comments

The office of Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) has been locked down due to the presence of a suspicious package covered with swastikas, according to reports. KVOA reports that an “envelope containing white powder” was mailed to Grijalva’s Tuscon office. Bomb technicians are reportedly on hand.

Grijalva told KVOA that the substance is toxic.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, the envelope was decorated with multiple swastikas and included a “white powdery substance” inside. No one at the office has been injured, Politico reports, which also claims that the FBI is now involved in the investigation.

Grijalva has served in the House since 2003. He was reelected in 2008 with 63% of the vote.

    More to come..

  4. Juan Williams Reacts To Firing: NPR Is Worse Than Nixon

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/21/juan-williams-speaks-out-_n_771484.html

UPDATE: Fox News announced Thursday that it had signed Juan Williams to a new, multi-year contract, which the Los Angeles Times reported was worth $2 million. Among other things, Williams will now write columns for FoxNews.com, the first of which appeared on Thursday afternoon.

In the column, Williams excoriated NPR and its leadership for the decision to fire him. He said he was let go for “telling the truth” about his feelings of nervousness when he sees people he thinks are clearly Muslim on airplanes. He called his debate with Bill O’Reilly — where he also told the Fox News host to be careful about painting all Muslims as extremists — an “honest, sensitive” one “in the best American tradition of a fair, full-throated and honest discourse about the issues of the day.”

Williams said that NPR’s move to fire him was a “a chilling assault on free speech” that came about due to “political correctness and ideological orthodoxy” by the “self-righteous ideological, left-wing leadership at NPR.” He also recounted the years of tension between him and his bosses at NPR that resulted from his association with Fox.

    • Ametia says:

Why is Howard Fineman and Nicole Wallace speaking about Anita Hill? They need to address Virginia Thomas’ crazy behaviors. She initiated the call.
That bitch is crazy as hell.

      • Did you hear Howard whining that Anita Hill played the message for the New York Times and Chris Spittle saying the message wasn’t threatening?

      • Ametia says:

Of course it was threatening to Tweety bird Matthews. Let his wife Kathryn get a threatening call from a black woman whose husband sexually harassed Kathryn at work 20 years ago, and then tesified against said husband. Listen to Chris’ reaction after that lil scene now would ya!

      • Precisely! If the situation was vise versa, Matthews & Fineman would be singing a very different tune. They’re stunned Anita called the FBI on that crazy bitch.

  8. What Role Have Scalia And Thomas Played In The Koch Money Machine?

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/20/scalia-thomas-koch/#comments

Earlier today, ThinkProgress’ Lee Fang revealed several documents outlining the details of one of right-wing billionaire Charles Koch’s secret convenings of corporate political donors. As Koch revealed to the Wall Street Journal in 2006, the purpose of these meetings is to recruit “captains of industry” to fund the conservative infrastructure of front groups, political campaigns, think tanks and media outlets. Buried in this document, however, is a surprising revelation about the role two supposedly impartial jurists have played in these extended fundraising solicitations: “Past meetings have featured such notable leaders as Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.”

A Supreme Court justice lending a hand to a political fundraising event would be a clear violation of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, if it wasn’t for the fact that the nine justices have exempted themselves from much of the ethical rules governing all other federal judges. Nevertheless, a spokesperson for the Supreme Court tells ThinkProgress that “[t]he Justices look to the Code of Conduct for guidance” in determining when they may participate in fundraising activities. Under that Code:

Fund Raising. A judge may assist nonprofit law-related, civic, charitable, educational, religious, or social organizations in planning fund-raising activities and may be listed as an officer, director, or trustee. A judge may solicit funds for such an organization from judges over whom the judge does not exercise supervisory or appellate authority and from members of the judge’s family. Otherwise, a judge should not personally participate in fund-raising activities, solicit funds for any organization, or use or permit the use of the prestige of judicial office for that purpose. A judge should not personally participate in membership solicitation if the solicitation might reasonably be perceived as coercive or is essentially a fund-raising mechanism.

  9. Chuck Todd: White Voters deserting Obama

    http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/37278452#39756080

    I could smack him!

    • Ametia says:

Chuck Todd is a LIAR. Just like his corporate masters.

What Chuck Todd is saying is: White votes should MATTER to Obama and the Dems, because he has such overwhelming Black/Latino support.

And if any whites are deserting Obama, as Todd and the media would have us believe, they are 1. whites who DID not vote for him in the first place, or 2. possibly angry white LBGTs who are inpatient with DOMA & DADT. Ask them what they think the Rethugs will do for’em.

Expect the media and pundits to continue pushing the Republicans as winners, while refusing to call out the under-handed, slimy, shady dealings ignited by Citizens United.

    • rikyrah says:

a majority of White voters did NOT vote for the President in the first place.
