“Hello,
Somehow I stumbled upon your blog “Field Negro”. I must say that although you state that you are a lawyer you are very good at playing the black victim status/role and pandering to others who want to keep this fraudulent stereotype alive.. Go ahead and refer to yourself as a so called field Negro (as if you really know what it is like to work in the fields) play victim to the mean WHITE society that’s keeping you down. Sir this argument is growing older than dirt and you know it. A Merry Ca as you refer to it is the place where people from all over the world come to seek a better life. I consider myself lucky to have been born here. Some people (like yourself) just don’t appreciate the freedoms and the sacrifices made by Americans of all colors so that you could be free to write the drivel that you do.
By now I’m sure you’ve heard this all before and I’m quite certain that you have a steady and consistent argument in place in response to folks like myself. You mentioned in your profile that you were born in Jamaica. I just don’t understand people like yourself who come here from other parts of the world only to spit on America and the privileges that are offered to all who really want to invest themselves. Invest not in harmful racist banter but with positive contributions to a country that right now needs less hate and more people to stand up and do what’s right.
What is it that makes you hate America and white people so much? Do you realize that other’s who come here, Chinese, Latinos Indian. etc etc are passing the black race by? Your failure to move forward is what is making this happen,sir. Your belief that slavery and victim status is the way to go is only holding the black people back. I don’t see many Chinese complaining and bad mouthing America after arriving here from communist China.
Let’s face it, America is not perfect. There will always be hate and racism and injustices done to some people of all races but why fuel the fires of hate and pain? Why not put that time and energy into helping others who need a hand pulling themselves up to possibly become an attorney like yourself or whatever dream they may have other than drugs and guns and a certain death on our streets?
In America today we are all free to come and free to go. No one is cracking a whip at our feet in the cotton fields. America needs your help,sir. You can either dive in and help out or you can keep spilling your negative hateful America bashing day in and day out. Just remember that you are free to make that choice. You are also free to go back to your country of origin if you really find it so bad here in A Merry Ca.

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Dozens of Iranian opposition supporters were arrested on Monday while taking part in a banned rally in Tehran to support popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, an Iranian opposition website said.
The rallies amounted to a test of strength for the reformist opposition, which had not taken to the streets since December 2009, when eight people were killed.
“Witnesses say in some parts of Tehran security forces arrested dozens of protesters,” opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi’s Kaleme website reported.
Security forces fired teargas to scatter thousands of people marching toward a Tehran square, a witness said. There were also clashes between police and demonstrators, and dozens of arrests, in the city of Isfahan, another witness told Reuters.
“Death to the dictator,” some of the Tehran protesters chanted, though other demonstrators marched in silence. Some chants drew comparisons between the Iranian leadership and the autocrats deposed in recent weeks in Tunis and Cairo.
Amnesty International condemned the authorities’ reaction: “Iranians have a right to gather to peacefully express their support for the people of Egypt and Tunisia,” it said.

During the last round of the Dubai Desert Classic, Tiger Woods made a triple bogey.
But it was his single lugey that is getting all the attention.
Woods was fined by the European Tour for spitting on the12th green after missing a par putt – a move that prompted a TV announcer to call him “arrogant and petulant” on the air.

Attorney: Edwards is deposed in sex tape lawsuit
RALEIGH, N.C. – Two-time presidential candidate John Edwards has testified under oath in a lawsuit over a videotape that purportedly depicts him in a sexual encounter, an attorney for a former Edwards aide said.
Robert Elliot said Edwards was deposed last week as part of a dispute between former Edwards aide Andrew Young and Edwards mistress Rielle Hunter. Elliot declined to discuss the content of the testimony. A judge said last year he didn’t want the details discussed publicly and warned both sides that he could hold people in contempt if the deposition material is talked about outside of the case.
Hunter has sued Young to reclaim materials, including a video that Young has said depicts a sexual encounter involving Edwards and a woman he assumes to be Hunter. Young has said he helped cover up the affair and contends the tape was found amid trash Hunter left behind in a home he was renting.
Meanwhile, a separate federal criminal investigation in Raleigh has drawn several people in recent months to testify before a grand jury. People familiar with the case have said investigators are examining how much Edwards knew about money used to cover up his affair and whether he violated campaign finance laws. The investigation is particularly focused on whether money given to Hunter and Young should have been considered campaign donations.
Hunter worked in 2006 as a videographer for Edwards’ political action committee, shooting behind-the-scenes footage as the Democrat prepared to launch his second White House campaign. Edwards acknowledged a year ago that he fathered a child with Hunter, though Young had initially claimed paternity so Edwards could continue his campaign.
Attorneys for Edwards have said they are confident he did not violate campaign finance laws.

Dem introduces ‘Do Not Track Me Online’ privacy bill

WASHINGTON – A California Democrat has introduced an online privacy measure that would allow Web users to opt-out of having their online behavior monitored by advertisers.
HR 654, The Do Not Track Me Online Act of 2011, would empower the Federal Trade Commission to write regulations ensuring that online marketing agencies refrain from tracking users who wish not to be tracked.
“Consumers have a right to determine what if any of their information is shared with big corporations and the federal government must have the authority and tools to enforce reasonable protections,” said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA).
“Failure to do so,” read a summary from Speier’s office, “would be considered an unfair or deceptive act punishable by law. The covered entity would have to disclose its collection and sharing practices, including with whom the information is shared.”
Speier also introduced HR 653, the Financial Information Privacy Act of 2011, which would afford consumers greater control over personal financial information that is often collected by banks.
She called the two bills examples of upholding “privacy over profit.”

Republicans Love Abortion

Abortion politics is back. According to the press reports; Republicans began committee work this week on two bills that will expand restrictions on financing for and access to abortions. At the same time the Conservative Political Action Committee begins Thursday with 10,000 ultra-conservatives meeting in Washington. Expect to hear a lot about abortion.
My late father, Francis Schaeffer, was a key founder and leader of the Religious Right. In the 1970s I joined my Dad in pioneering the Evangelical antiabortion Religious Right movement.
As I describe in my book Sex, Mom, and God: How the Bible’s Strange Take on Sex Led to Crazy Politics–and How I Learned to Love Women (and Jesus) Anyway I changed my mind. I no longer ride around “saving” America for God, nor am I a regular on religious TV and radio these days. As I describe in my forthcoming book — I am also pro-choice. Like most Americans, I am pro-choice but not “pro-abortion.”
Something has been lost in the debate: The “sides” aren’t clear when it comes to actual people (especially “ordinary” people as opposed to the talking heads). The notion that “most liberals are pro-choice” and that “most conservatives are antiabortion” is simplistic.
Most people don’t fit such blanket simplification. The purists on each side refuse to admit that most Americans (if public opinion polls are to be believed) occupy a–sensibly conflicted–middle ground on “the issue.” They (like me) want abortion legal– but don’t like it one bit.
A plurality of Americans would like to see stricter limits placed on abortions in the United States. According to a New York Times/CBS News poll, only 23 percent of those surveyed called for an end to all abortions. But the split between those who wanted it kept legal without restriction (34 percent)–in other words to maintain the Roe/Bolton status quo–and those who would like to see more restrictions (41 percent) was tilted against Roe.

President Submits Budget for FY 2012
Proposes Drastic Domestic Cuts

President Obama unveiled his FY2012 budget proposal today, which lays out a $3.73 trillion spending proposal and claims 1.1 trillion in spending cuts. The budget proposal contains a five-year freeze on domestic discretionary spending, which the White House says will save $400 billion as well as a two-year moratorium that gives states more time to pay of debt from unemployment insurance programs.
Republican House Speaker John Boehner (OH) has already criticized the White House budget effort. In a press briefing last week Boehner stated that the President’s plan will “destroy jobs because it spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much.” The GOP released their own budget last week, which includes $74 billion in cuts to the White House’s proposed 2011 budget for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Unconfirmed report: Mubarak in coma

CAIRO, Feb. 14 (UPI) — Egypt’s army told protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square to leave or be arrested and an unconfirmed report said ousted President Hosni Mubarak was in a coma.
Al-Masry al-Youm quoted “well-informed sources” as saying Mubarak, 82, had fallen into a coma in his Sharm el-Sheik residence.
But RIA Novosti reported that the pro-government daily al-Gomhuria, citing sources, said Mubarak was in a “severe psychological condition” but not in a coma.
A few dozen protesters who remained in the square said soldiers cordoned them off and they had been asked to leave or face arrest, al-Arabiya reported Monday.
Al-Masry al-Youm reported Sunday evening that Mubarak was being treated at his residence but a decision had yet to be made whether to transfer him to a hospital. The unconfirmed report said Mubarak fainted twice while recording his final speech that was broadcast on state television Thursday evening before he set out with his family to the resort town.
Egyptian banks were closed Monday due to workers’ strikes and will remain closed Tuesday to honor the Prophet Mohammed’s birth, Egypt’s central bank said.

An Anniversary Approaches for Justice Thomas: 5 Years Without Speaking in Arguments

A week from Tuesday will mark the day that Justice Clarence Thomas has gone five years without making a comment during oral arguments.
Thomas wasn’t always silent, the New York Times reports. He spoke 12 times in the 2005-2006 term, and 11 times in the previous term. His last question was on Feb. 22, 2006, in a death penalty case.
His lack of questions contrasts with the talkative nature of his colleagues, who are increasingly peppering the lawyers with questions, the Times points out. In the 20 years that ended in 2008, the justices asked an average of 133 questions per argument, compared to about 100 in the prior 15 years. No other justice in the last 40 years has gone even an entire term without speaking.
Lawyers who argue before the court have varying opinions on Thomas’ decision to remain quiet. According to the story, “His views can be idiosyncratic, and some say lawyers deserve a chance to engage him before being surprised by an opinion setting out a novel and sweeping legal theory. Others say they are just as happy not to waste valuable argument time on distinctive positions unlikely to command a majority in major cases.”
Thomas has given a variety of reasons for his refusal to ask questions, the story notes. He has said he is self-conscious about his dialect, acquired from a rural Georgia upbringing. He has said he believes the lawyers should be given a chance to argue their case. And he has said it is difficult to get in a question. “We look like Family Feud,” he once said.

DETROIT, Feb. 12 (UPI) — Married couples who double date or integrate other couples into their social lives are more apt to have satisfying relationships, U.S. researchers suggests.
Richard B. Slatcher, assistant professor of psychology in Wayne State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, suggests that spending quality time with other couples may be an important way to improve long-term dating relationships.
Slatcher’s study, “When Harry and Sally met Dick and Jane: Experimentally creating closeness between couples,” published in Personal Relationships, investigated 60 dating couples in a controlled laboratory setting.

Today begins the war over E2I2.
The great budget battle of Bill Clinton’s presidency was waged around a set of initials also inspired by the “Star Wars” character R2D2. Clinton’s lieutenants jauntily encapsulated his fight against Republican cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, education and the environment as a defense of M2E2.
For President Obama, the battle lines will be drawn on investments in – or, as Republicans would say, spending on – education, energy, infrastructure and innovation, thus E2I2.
After Obama unveils his budget proposal on Monday, it will be hard to pretend anymore that the president and House Republicans live in the same political galaxy, let alone have a chance of reaching lots of bipartisan agreements.
House GOP members are fixated not on specific programs or the purposes of government but on how big an arbitrary number measuring their budget cuts should be. The leadership offered an absurdly long list of cuts in the very narrow part of the domestic budget.
A telling example: The party that purports to love community and church-based efforts to help the poor and downtrodden even zeroed out AmeriCorps, the national service program that has long enjoyed support across party lines. AmeriCorps, remember, gives out small grants that leverage an enormous amount of voluntary work for the groups George W. Bush used to praise as “the armies of compassion.”

Supreme Court confronts conflicting laws on post-conviction DNA testing

DALLAS – The news brings almost routine stories about wrongfully convicted prisoners who are exonerated by DNA testing, but they often have traveled widely divergent paths to freedom.
In some states, only prisoners facing execution have the right to DNA testing to try to prove their innocence. In others, anyone who pleaded guilty is barred from asking for the testing. In the patchwork of legislation passed by Congress and 48 states, even individual prosecutors can carry great weight.
The Supreme Court is again considering the tangled legal questions that accompany the issue in the case of Henry Skinner, who says DNA evidence could settle the question of whether he murdered his girlfriend and her two developmentally disabled adult sons.
