    Octavia Spencer’s Designer Devotion
By Julie Newmann | Coverage of The 84th Annual Academy Awards® – 1 hour 50 minutes ago

It is no surprise that Octavia Spencer, nominated for her powerful performance in “The Help,” walked the red carpet in a stunning Tadashi Shoji gown. Shoji has been Spencer’s go-to designer for the 2012 awards season, providing her gowns for the Golden Globes, Writers Guild Awards, SAG Awards and more. Though other designers tried to woo Spencer with custom creations for the Academy Awards, Spencer remained loyal to Shoji because Shoji has been loyal to her during her career.

All of Shoji’s looks have been stunning, but tonight’s gown was especially flattering, and the artful pleating and stonework emphasized her Spencer’s waist and accentuated her curves.

In the 84 year history of the Acadent Awards, only 5 black women have won best supporting Oscar; Hattie McDaniel, Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Hudson, Monique, and Octavia Spencer.

    VIOLA and OCTAVIA look fabulous

  13. Ametia says:

Did you enjoy War Horse? i want to see it. I think I’ll wait for one of my weekend solitude days to watch the Artist when it’s out on DVD.

  14. Ametia says:

    Chris Rock is hilarious.

  15. …I only saw a little bit of The Help.

  16. Ametia says:

There’s no place like home eating shit-in the pie. LOL Octavia; you kilt it in the role of MINNIE.

  17. I haven’t seen any of the movies because I live under a toad stool but from my past experience the movies I like and the actors I like always lose. All I have to say about Viola Davis is I want that dress & her body to go in it! I wish I could get a good look at her shoes. I have a real thing for cool shoes, even though I’m stuck with Granny shoes now. I once had some great shoes and Chicas, I could dance!

  18. Congrats Octavia Spencer….. Best Supporting Actress!

    Whoo Hoo!

  19. Ametia says:

CONGRATULATIONS, OCTAVIA SPENCER!!!! :-) Best Supporting Actress.

I’ve seen The Help, Midnight In Paris, and Iron Lady. Don’t have a favorite of any that I’ve seen. ‘d love to see Viola Davis win Best Actress, though.

    • I don’t have a favorite either. I concur about Viola. I’d like to see her win.

Iron Lady left me FLAT, pun intended. There was way too much emphasis on Meryl acting then th actual story o PM Thatcher.

      • I read about the movie “Iron Lady” sucking but that Meryl was great. Meryl streep can be just about anyone (white) she wants to be. I loved her as ‘Julia Child.’ I have a thing for Julia Child because when my Papi was so very sick for months before he died he got fixated on watching Julia Child’s cooking program on PBS. I sometimes sat with him when he watched & I think he might have actually cheated on Mama with Julia if he had a chance. He really enjoyed her program and it gave him pleasure in his pain.

Streep did a great job in that movie even though I only liked the parts that she was in.

        :)

Oh yeah, I saw The MoneyBall too with Brad Pitt. I liked the story.
