star of bethlehemO Holy Night (“Cantique de Noël“) is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem “Minuit, chrétiens” (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808–1877). Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet, had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem.[1] Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight,[2] editor of Dwight’s Journal of Music, created a singing edition based on Cappeau’s French text in 1855. In both the French original and in the two familiar English versions of the carol, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and of mankind’s redemption.

My blood is boiling. How did the police in this country – paid with our tax payer dollars and charged with working for us – How did they become so powerful and able to bully, threaten, kill and hold us all ransom?

How are they able to murder in cold blood and get away with it; and how are they able to decide that their lives are so much more valuable than the rest of ours? How is it that we cannot criticize them when they’ve been wrong – for fear of being tagged anti-police and becoming the target of police hate and oppression?

SMH watching the NYPD disrespect and attempt to blame Mayor de Blasio for THEIR bad behavior and the consequent bad feelings from the general public who have forever lived in fear of being hounded, terrorized and killed by the very same police paid to protect them.

That the police who are paid to protect the Mayor and his family, can so brazenly threaten not to do so properly – and even insinuate that harm might be done to the family instead, is despicable.

How is this one incident by this one black guy that much more outrageous than the police killings initiated by the white couple in Las Vegas or the guy in Pennsylvania – who by the way is still very much alive and ironically has not gotten any of the hateful rhetoric now directed at de Blasio, Al Sharpton and black people in general?

The arrogant, threatening and hostile rhetoric from the NYPD union guy and some of these other tax payer paid policemen, and even by that racist, right-winger, police ass-kissing Cardinal Dolan, don’t engender any sympathy – nor does it portend well for healing or moving forward with EVERYONE feeling respected, supported and protected.

Ordinary citizens deserve respect too. Ordinary citizens lives matter too. And hiding behind a uniform to senselessly murder people and walk away without any thought to the value of the life you’ve taken – or the feelings of the family left behind, won’t cut it anymore.

Police trying to shut everyone up and trying to bully everyone into submission – including the Mayor who spoke the truth about the mistreatment of black people by the police, isn’t going to cut it – nor is it going to help stem the negative feelings people have towards a brazenly murderous police force who’ve never seen black people as human, or their lives as valuable.

The police reaction to this specific incident only confirms what we’ve always known – and what continues to fuel the anger and hopelessness in communities of color. And when that anger gets to boiling point and people no longer feel like that they’ve got anything to lose – and are willing to die because they’ll be murdered by police sometime anyway, that’s a dangerous place. And police bullying and shouting down the Mayor, and blaming everyone else but themselves, isn’t going to cut it. Or heal it.

I’ve been thinking about this too. Why should the police have so much power? The truth is, the only difference between a city cop and any other municipal employee, let’s say a guy who works for the city auditor, is the cops union. Aside from that, they are essentially the same with respect to being an employee of the city, paid by the citizens who they are supposed to be serving. Cop unions do tend to be powerful, but God knows why. They have been allowed to get much, much too powerful. That is why they believe they can get away with what they are doing right now in NYC when they should actually be getting fired.

      • Liza says:

In fact, the protection of bad cops actually starts with the cops and their unions. And that is really the source of many, many problems with law enforcement. But why so much protection for bad cops?

      • eliihass says:

Watching CNN and hearing some on the panel demand that Mayor de Blasio has to make a public apology to assuage the police or else. Madness!! Pure insanity!!

Everyone kissing up to the police and telling us just how special they are, and how the work they do is so much more important than what everyone else does.

When police do their job properly – that is when they PROTECT and not keep profiling and remorselessly killing innocents; when they engender respect by their goodness, empathy, honor, honesty and integrity and not by heartlessly strong-arming, bullying and blackmailing; when they are who the community needs them to be — non-racist and honorable —

Then and only then are they special and important. Otherwise they’re bullying, murderous, racist rogues in uniform – and undeserving of respect or elevation.

    • Liza says:

This is so true. The cops know that the guy who killed the two cops was unhinged, just to walk up and blow them away like that and then blow himself away. They know that. But they think they can use this to gain the upper hand, to sway public opinion back to themselves and show how powerful they are, that they are not to be f***ed with when they break the law. They want that video of the cop killing Eric Garner to go away and be forgotten and replaced with public support for the cops, all cops.

      • eliihass says:

        So true!

      • eliihass says:

They’re also deliberately withholding the fact that the guy also killed his BLACK girlfriend who’s not a cop by the way – before killing the 2 cops.

The NYPD and their supporters do so to push an insidious narrative to justify their murderous behavior, all while trying to grab and exploit an undeserved moral high ground – And to shut up every critic and dissenting voice and take back control on their terms, and without ever acknowledging any wrongdoing on their part – or changing their unjustifiably murderous ways.

    LOL Rikyrah, where are you?

George Clooney is turning heads in his Downton Abbey debut!

The A-list star’s much-publicized stint on the British period drama wasn’t for an episode of the show sadly, but rather a sketch for Text Santa, an annual U.K. telethon that raises money for charities over the holiday season

This Mom Called C-SPAN to Tell Her Pundit Sons to STFU. I LIVE.
    Luvvie — December 16, 2014 7 30

Two men were going back and forth on C-SPAN about politics and whatnots when they got a call from the general line where people phone in to drop their 2 cents about whatever is happening. The two happened to be brothers and when they heard the voice on the other end, they knew they were in trouble because it was their Mom. This is pure gold. Watch:

She came out the gate snapping! LMAOOOO! When dude on the left immediately drops his head and goes “Oh God It’s Mom,” a cackle escaped from my spirit. He was so done for! Dude on the right tried to keep his horror away from the surface but his brother was appalled enough for both of them. But Mama called to snatch BOTH their wigs because she is clearly sick of their shit and she felt like letting the whole world know. Mrs. Woodhouse is alright with me.

“I was very glad this year was the year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws and I’m hoping you have some of this out of your system when you come home for Christmas.”

That is the best “I wish y’all would STFU statement I’ve heard this week.” She told Brad and Dallas not to bring their petty shit home on White Jesus’ birthday because she ain’t got time for it. TELL ME, MA! TELL EM! A house divided indeed. For her to say she is happy they didn’t hop their arguing asses to her crib on Turkey Day lets you know how fed up she is.

The Foul Fix In Ferguson, Con’t

    Posted by Zandar

So it turns out that St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch knew his witnesses were lying, and had them testify in the Darren Wilson grand jury proceeding anyway.

McCulloch: Well, early on, I decided that anyone who claimed to have witnessed anything was going to be presented to the grand jury.

And I knew that no matter how I handled it, there would be criticism of it. So if I didn’t put those witnesses on, then we’d be discussing now why I didn’t put those witnesses on. Even though their statements were not accurate.

So my determination was to put everybody on and let the grand jurors assess their credibility, which they did. This grand jury poured their hearts and souls into this. It was a very emotional few months for them. It took a lot of them.

I wanted to put everything on there.

I thought it was much more important to present everything and everybody, and some that, yes, clearly were not telling the truth. No question about it.

Bonus points: He can’t charge these witnesses with false statements because he just admitted publicly that he knew they were lying and if he does, he perjures himself in the process.

McCulloch: That issue has been raised, and it’s a legitimate issue. But, in the situation again, in the manner in which we did it, we’re not going to file perjury charges against anyone.

There were people who came in and, yes, absolutely lied under oath. Some lied to the FBI. Even though they’re not under oath, that’s another potential offense — a federal offense.

So yes, this is obscene. The witnesses lied to the grand jury, and because of that, the jury proceedings are bogus at best and an outright attempt to swing the jury’s verdict under false pretenses at worst.

But Darren Wilson continues to go free.

from lamh about the happenings in NYC

    lamh

I am up entirely too early for a Sunday.

    Good morning all.

prayers for the two officers families and prayers for Mayor DeBlasio and his family as well. After seeing the actions of police turning their backs on Mayor DeBlasio as he entered the press conference that day and when he entered the hospital where the slain officers were taken, and hearing the irresponsible and disgusting words of the police union Prez, and learning that it’s NYPD that does security detail for the Mayor and his family, I’m adding them to the same prayers that I give for the Obama family.
