baby faceKenneth “Babyface” Edmonds (born April 10, 1959) is an American R&B musician, singer–songwriter and record producer. He has written and produced over 26 No. 1 R&B hits throughout his career. He has won 11 Grammy Awards.

Edmonds was born on April 10, 1959, (some sources say 1958), in Indianapolis, Indiana,[1][2] to Marvin and Barbara Edmonds. Barbara was a production operator at a pharmaceutical plant. Edmonds, who is the fifth of six brothers (including future After 7 band members Melvin and Kevon Edmonds, the latter of whom went on to have a modestly successful solo career), attended North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as a shy youth, wrote songs to express his emotions.[3] When he was in eighth grade, Edmonds’ father died of lung cancer, leaving his mother to raise her sons alone.[3] At this stage, Edmonds became determined to have a career in music.

Edmonds later played with funk performer Bootsy Collins, who tagged him “Babyface” because of his cute face while he was still a teen. He also performed in the group Manchild (which had a 1976 hit “Especially for You” with band member Daryl Simmons), as he was a guitarist for the band. Then, as a keyboardist in the light-funk and R&B group The Deele (which also included drummer Antonio “L.A.” Reid, with whom he would later form a successful writing and producing partnership).

    Spot on; FLOTUS’ visits and contact with folks are DELIBERATE.

    That’s why folks try to compare her with other First Ladies. It’s not possible.

    First Lady Michelle Obama is IN A LEAGUE OF HER OWN.

    She sees them. She actually sees them and in ways most high profile people usually don’t. To her, they are real kids in need of real and tangible love and support. They aren’t photo opportunities for her. They matter more to her than sipping tea and dining with self-important leaders. And she makes this clear in the way she interacts with them, and the way she puts them ahead of hanging with the high and mighty.

    This is just one of the reasons I admire and respect her, and remain fiercely protective of her.

    My all time favorite Sammy Davis jr. song. It’s brilliant and haunting and cleverly employs sound, pitch, storytelling in such unique and enduring ways.

    I remember the last tribute they did for Sammy Davis when he was very sick and just before he died. Sammy came on stage when Gregory Hines (God rest his soul), was performing a tap number in his honor…It just feels me with sadness…

    I don’t think I understood Mr. Bojangles when I was 25. I was too young and stupid to get the meaning of it. It is sad and haunting, but that’s the beauty of it.
