U.S. tennis star Serena Williams claimed her sixth Wimbledon singles title today, defeating Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-4, 6-4.

With 2015 victories at the Australian Open, the French Open and now Wimbledon, Williams is in position to win a calendar-year Grand Slam with a U.S. Open title in September.

It dawned on me this morning that the reason they’ve stepped up the contempt, racism and disrespect (outside of it just being the American way) is that very soon Serena will have all the records and the hardware to be proclaimed the greatest women’s tennis player EVER! Add in her accomplishments with Venus in doubles and as soft as these chicks are coming up behind her, that position will be secure for decades, probably, until another sister, yet born, challenges it.

    They’re trying to stop her march on history and/or diminish it because throughout her career they threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at the Williams family and Serena still succeeded far beyond their worst nightmares. For all the grief Navratilova received during her career, she should be ashamed of herself for the way she’s behaved toward Serena recently.

    Ironically, Serena, like PBO, are only made greater by the blows they absorb from their enemies, much to their consternation. Ghandi could have been referring to them both with his timeless quote, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

      I have a lot of frustration and anger about this issue; It is very important to me – and I find that where any person lands on this issue as reflected not in their rhetoric, but in their real actions, essentially informs my view of them –

    Serena Williams just beat Maria Sharapova. Again. Because that’s what she does. Chew bubble gum, beat Maria Sharapova, and win majors.     There is a particular type of person who will read that last paragraph and become very angry. Whose soul is nicked with every one of her victories. And this tickles me. I am motherfucking tickled. Because it’s almost as if Serena Williams was specifically and intentionally created with the intention of pissing off the most racist sports fans possible. Her entire existence is an elaborate troll for White tears.

    Be from Compton? Check. Dominate a sport traditionally dominated by conventionally attractive and affluent White women? Check. Do this while being “so thick that everybody else in the room is so uncomfortable“? Check. Rock literally every hairstyle every Black American woman has ever rocked, and sometimes all at the exact same time? Check. Despite endless attacks on her looks and “masculinity”, continue to have some of the most eligible Black bachelors in the country (literally) fight over her? Check. Have an active dad who gives no fucks about what White people think? Check. Do absolutely nothing remotely criminal or even rude, making the tearjerkers scour the Earth for shit to criticize? Check.

        That certain ‘guilt’ you speak of Ametia, and what is in my opinion a mostly forced outrage so many express in their presumed solidarity with us, is usually selective, conditional and contingent upon their defined boundaries and expectations of us at various times, including while they’re in solidarity with us…It’s what I call the Berkeley liberal mindset. Similar only to a missionary complex that can as quickly turn vicious, hostile and vindictive if the one being saved or supported ever dares step out of line and is at any point deemed as not being humble or grateful enough, and worse, getting too big for their britches..Or simply declines the aid being offered in the first place, because the do not wish to be beholden..

        It’s not a natural, generous or spontaneous empathy that’s all-encompassing – rather it’s done consciously or unconsciously specifically for certain black people: when it’s the cause or news de jour and the specific black person – victim or hero – has become a symbol for a specific cause. Or in other instances, because the predominantly white mainstream has decided that this particular black person is unlike all the others, and therefore deserving of elevation and respect (to the exclusion of most other black people).

        And the effusive, overly exaggerated (even obsessive) support and defense that follows (to be wielded in the future as incontrovertible evidence that they do indeed like and support black people – and have black friends). That is of course until the selected black person’s luck runs out and like has happened to Cosby, they become worse than pariahs. Immediately relieving their former white cheerleaders of the need to continue to over-exert themselves pretending to like and respect their once token black model, who is now returned to a worse place and fate than he’d previously occupied before occupying the worthy (token) black person status.

        Now, maybe if Cosby were infinitely more attractive, cooler, had swag and didn’t pretend to be a devoted husband to a black woman, and had played it ‘smooth’, who knows…? Maybe the same women who had no respect or regard for his black wife to begin with, and were all too willing to go unaccompanied to go hangout all alone with a married man at night in hotel rooms, at the playboy mansion and other questionable venues, wouldn’t have been quite so incensed at being scorned, or being taken advantage of (if only he’d asked nicely and maybe promised to leave his wife at some point). Nor would they have eventually turned him in for what they hope will be a hefty cash payout…But that’s a theory we’ll have to put to test some other time – after we’ve dealt with war, world hunger and other more pressing matters..

        I do get weary of the fake outrage, though, and we at 3 Chics will not be put in our place, because this is our place. And folks sure have come here and tried, make no mistake about this.

        And don’t forget the ‘mammy’ figures who are quick to support these folks, who will act out in the most envious ways, lurking & throwing shade at us on Twitter, while avoid coming here directly to comment.

        Spot on about your observations with Cosby, Tiger, etc. they are prime examples of how being put on a pedestal by certain folks is so dangerous. The very folks who claims to have put you up there will knock you down, when it suits them.

    Full disclosure: I have not always been a Serena fan.

    Not because she’s “manly”.

    Not because she’s “classless”.

    Not because she’s “hood”.

    My ambivalence towards her was purely sporting. It always seemed like she wasn’t quite living up to her potential. And now I realize that was churlish.

    She went through a few years of injuries which would have ended most careers. And those injuries, and her recovery from them, seemed to revitalize her.

    She came back stronger. She came back with a fierce determination. She came back with a renewed love of her game.

    She came back to dominate a sport in a manner which no other athlete has.

    Jordan hasn’t. Mayweather hasn’t. Tiger hasn’t.

    What Serena has done in the past few years, and seems bent on doing for a few years more, is nothing short of miraculous. We haven’t seen the like in modern sports.

    Just shy of her 34th birthday, at age at which the hunters from “Logan’s Run” should have already done their business, she is playing better with every match. No one can stand against her. When she loses it’s headline news, because it seems as if she’s forgotten how to lose. I came to the realization earlier this year that she has a chance to be a competitive force on the WTA into her late 30s – early 40s. And by “competitive”, I mean that she’ll still win Grand Slams.

    Any other athlete would be lauded, rose petals would be strewn before her feet, she’d be lionized.

    But not Serena.

    Much like our first black President, nothing she does is ever good enough. As at the beginning of this essay, she looks different, or acts differently, or is classless, or is “hood”.

    Like Barack Obama, her accomplishments have to be derided and denied. She has to be taken down several pegs. She has to be put in her place.
