Mother Jones: As the sheriff in Douglas County, Oregon, John Hanlin was front and center following Thursday’s shooting at Umpqua Community College, which left at least 13 people dead and 20 others wounded.
Two years ago, Hanlin was one of hundreds of sheriffs around the country to vow to stand against new gun control legislation. In a January 15, 2013, letter to Vice President Joe Biden, he wrote, “Gun control is NOT the answer to preventing heinous crimes like school shootings.”

Something seems very odd about how the law enforcement is treating this. They are straight pushing their own agenda and local le is making sure the narrative they want out there is the only one. Something feels very off about this. I can not put my finger on it. The push to normalize this violence is on. Gun rights mean more to all of these people than the right to life. This town is pushing the hate Obama agenda, protect our guns, everyone look the other way. Guns are God!

Report: Oregon Shooter Had White Supremacist Leanings

The 26-year-old gunman who massacred at least nine people Thursday at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College reportedly had white supremacist leanings.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday, based on information from an anonymous federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, that the shooter was obsessed with guns and religion and had white supremacist leanings.
Douglas County, Oregon Sheriff John Hanlin said Thursday that he would not glorify the gunman by releasing his name and urged the media to follow his example. But the Times and other news outlets, including The Associated Press, have identified the gunman as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer based on information from anonymous federal law enforcement sources and government officials.
The gunman also reportedly used an email address that invoked a symbol with connections to neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups. The Guardian found via a public records search that the email address “ironcross45@gmail.com” was associated with a Chris Harper Mercer of Winchester, Oregon. The Anti-Defamation League notes that those groups adopted the Iron Cross, a German military medal, as a hate symbol by superimposing a swastika on the traditional medal.

Fuck you to Second Amendment absolutists who claim that any common sense restrictions on guns are a blow to liberty.

The “right to bear arms”, in the plain meaning of the text, is a corollary to the necessity of a militia. The last time I checked, people aren’t exactly being called up to join volunteer brigades.
Fuck you, also, to those who completely misread that Second Amendment and say that guns are necessary to fight tyranny. I had a “friend” once who made that argument. We are no longer friends. Yes, big bad man, you think you’re going to go up against the world’s strongest military. You think tyranny is just around the corner. What you’re doing is enabling tens of thousands of deaths across the country, senseless, lives snuffed out for no reason than your own paranoid fantasies.
