Christmas Candles15Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. Ray was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings with Atlantic Records.[1][2][3] He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums.[4][5][6] While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company.

Study: White people react to evidence of white privilege by claiming greater personal hardships

Researchers at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business have found that white people respond to evidence that they are privileged by their race by insisting that they face greater hardships in life.

In a study published in the November issue of Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, L. Taylor Phillips and Brian S. Lowery point out that progress on racial equality is limited by the fact that many whites deny the existence of inequities.

You couldn’t really make this up if you tried. Wendy ‘F’ Williams wants to lecture the Obamas about being ‘dignified’? Really? LOL…And when did Mrs Obama ever ‘twerk’ on Ellen..?

That’s just one more argument against, and downside to ‘mainstreaming’ and attempting to ‘legitimize’ a simple, malicious gossip….Giving a miserable, soulless, warped, shallow, spiteful, sadistic loser suffering from severe low self-esteem masquerading as flippant bravado, a television show. A show where she not only gets to further misinform an already misinformed and low-information audience, but she gets to smear, tear down, chip away at others based entirely on gossip, spite, envy and jealousy. A show where she’s done serious damage to people, marriages, families simply for ‘entertainment’, or to avenge perceived snubs…and to drag down to her level and extremely murky personal life, people she envies because they’re respected and have the life, marriage and family she desperately wants but can never have… So she goes about trying to sully them, to plant seeds designed to taint them and chip away at their reputation, respect, support and goodwill…and only to bring them down..

Someone has to tell Wendy Williams that being a ‘former’ drug addict, whose claim to fame is and continues to be, spreading malicious gossip about, and bad-mouthing others… bleaching ones skin, running around with 5000cc lead balloons stuck in ones chest, while being humored and cheered on by massa at FOX who’s picked your shallow, get rich and famous at any cost silly a*** to do their bidding – that is until they no longer need your useful idiot services – in no way makes one ‘respectable’, nor will it ever qualify one to lecture anyone – and especially not President and Mrs Obama – on what is ‘appropriate’ or ‘dignified’..

Scott Walker signs bills dismantling GAB, overhauling campaign finance law

Gov. Scott Walker has cemented key changes in time for the 2016 political campaign, signing into law bills giving campaign finance law its biggest makeover in decades and dismantling and replacing Wisconsin’s oversight board for elections and elected officials.

Walker’s signing of the two bills, announced in a press release, was conducted in private Wednesday. It was widely expected after the bills passed the Legislature last month on votes that largely mirrored party lines.

The campaign finance measure dials back restrictions on money flowing into state political campaigns, some of which had been struck down by court rulings.

The signing of the measure dismantling the Government Accountability Board kicks off a six-month transition to new elections and ethics commissions that will succeed it on June 30.

The GAB, made up of six nonpartisan former judges, oversees elections, campaign finance, ethics and lobbying. The bill replaces it with two separate elections and ethics commissions overseen by appointees, most of them partisans, made by legislative leaders and the governor.

Lawyer for Martin Shkreli Hikes Fees Five Thousand Per Cent
    By Andy Borowitz

BROOKLYN (The Borowitz Report)—A criminal lawyer representing Turing Pharmaceuticals chief Martin Shkreli has informed his client that he is raising his hourly legal fees by five thousand per cent, the lawyer has confirmed.

Minutes after Shkreli’s arrest on charges of securities fraud, the attorney, Harland Dorrinson, announced that he was hiking his fees from twelve hundred dollars an hour to sixty thousand dollars.

Shkreli, who reportedly received the news about the price hike while he was being fingerprinted, cried foul and accused his attorney of “outrageous and inhumane price gouging.”

Black unemployment is significantly higher than white unemployment regardless of educational attainment
    By Valerie Wilson | December 17, 2015

The black unemployment rate is nearly or more than twice the white unemployment rate regardless of educational attainment. It is, and always has been, about twice the white unemployment rate; however, the depth of this racial inequality in the labor market rarely makes the headlines.

There Will be No Effective Gun Control Laws in America Until We Can Talk Honestly About the Connections Between White Masculinity, Guns, and “Freedom”

There will be no effective gun control in the United States, even in the aftermath of horrific events such as Sandy Hook, the Planned Parenthood Shooting, or the San Bernardino massacre, until politicians, pundits, and analysts realize that the gun is a type of totem or fetish object for too many white men. As such, when we try to talk about gun control in America, a centuries-deep sense of white masculinity that understands the gun as its exclusive right is made to feel imperiled and upset.

    Courts & Law
AP source: Ferguson, Justice Department close to agreement

By Eric Tucker and Jim Salter | AP December 16 at 7:45 PM

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department is close to an agreement with the Ferguson, Missouri, police department on a deal intended to bring sweeping changes to the agency, a person familiar with the matter said Wednesday.

The overhaul, once finalized, could avert a civil rights lawsuit that federal officials have the option to bring against departments that resist changing their policing practices.

The person, who was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke only on condition of anonymity, said the agreement still requires final approval by the city but calls for improvements including more thorough training of police officers. Such deals also generally require the appointment of a monitor to oversee a police department’s compliance.
