Friday Open Thread | Christmas Jams 2019

This song is by Ray Charles and appears on the album The Spirit Of Christmas (1985).

Recorded in 1985, The Spirit of Christmas finds Ray Charles performing a variety of holiday favorites with vocal assistance from the Raelettes and an appearance by jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. The ten tracks mix standards and originals, including “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and the ballad “That Spirit of Christmas,” which was featured in the movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The Spirit of Christmas is perfect background music for any holiday celebration.

“In Washington state, Republicans are calling on their fellow Republican state lawmaker Matt Shea to step down, after a new report commissioned by the Washington state House Republicans found that Shea participated in domestic terrorism. The report found Shea planned, engaged in and promoted armed conflicts of political violence against the U.S. government between 2014 and 2016 as a leader of the anti-government Patriot Movement. The report also says Representative Matt Shea has cultivated close ties with armed anti-government militias since being elected in 2008. Representative Shea is resisting calls to resign, writing on Facebook Thursday night, β€œI will not back down. … Stand strong fellow Patriots.””
