I used to work with “at risk youth” to get them off the track to the criminal Justice system. I always acknowledged efforts to do well & improved behavior. One 15 year old said ‘you’re the only person who’s ever told me I’m doing good.’

It’s been years & I never forgot that.

Those words are so huge for young people. It breaks my heart when I think of all the amazing talent we lose because so many children aren’t given the nurturing they need. Kudos to the young man for building his own future, and to that woman for her words of encouragement!

I am a test administrator at a Comm. College. I tell every GED student that I see that I am proud of them. I tell them I know it’s not easy and that they have guts and bravery to finish this thing. Do they all pass the 1st time, no. But it gives them confidence to keep going.
