WASHINGTON (AFP) – Despite two years under unforgiving scrutiny, President Barack Obama’s true political philosophy remains elusive, as his White House braces for a sickening blow in congressional elections.
With Republicans poised in Tuesday’s mid-term polls to shatter the Democratic monopoly on power in Washington, the answers Obama finds to questions about his character and politics may decide whether he can win a second term in 2012.
After a stratospheric political rise, Obama made himself, in his euphoric 2008 campaign, the epitome of hope for the future.
His “Yes We Can” mantra, made him the personification of the idea that a grassroots movement could change America.
But after two years, the deep national pessimism about the economy has taken a toll, and it is Republicans, seemingly poised to seize the House of Representatives on Tuesday, who are posing as “change” agents.
“Americans haven’t experienced the change President Obama promised,” House Republican leader John Boehner charged Saturday.
With unemployment at 9.6 percent and the budget deficit at over a trillion dollars, Republicans say Obama can hardly argue things have got better.
Obama’s answer is simply that “change takes time” — and that former president George W. Bush left a “mess” it will take years to fix.
The president admitted Friday that “some of the hoopla and the excitement” of 2008 had faded, but warned the “spirit” of change must not die.
As a candidate, Obama appeared more moderate than ideological, vowing to unite “red America” (Republican) and “blue America” (Democratic) in one nation.
But though he made symbolic efforts to court his foes as president, the attempt fizzled amid staunch Republican obstruction tactics. As a result, Obama has no longer appeared as the “post-partisan” president many voters yearned for.

Just returned from the EdSchultz show…that was me off camera in the front row (red jkt/white shirt/red scarf tie applauding.)
The show was great …Clark did a good interview…although I was not pleased with her reluctance about PBO! Unlike Ellison who came strong for PBO, healthcare, LedbetterAct and the Recovery Act. The turnout was good for Clark.
The two MN pundits, were OK, except for the journalist…who basically said Clark had no chance. I don’t know why he was so pessimistic, Bachmann only won by 3% last time!!
We have a fightin chance, Clark does have a good ground game …when she was out last November, we told her then what her message should me and she changed her talking points. It will be close but Clark may just win this one. Bachmann has not campaigned at all in her district.
I beleive Sherrod Brown is gonna win and if Strickland wins he can thank Obama for GOTV in Cleveland with that rally.
PBO has rallied this country well, bringing out over 200K voters in the last week before this election. There is lots of enthusiasm in this nation on the part of Democrats the MSM just refuses to cover it.
I absolutely loved Schultz’s montage on Bachmann’s psycho talk where the title was BAT CRAZY….I hope you guys can find that and post it.

What is Clark’s reluctance?
She was asked was she backing away from POTUS…and she gave this oblique vague answer about how she had just been out with President Clinton…just jumpred right over Obama and talked about WJC like he was the second comin of jesus. So, she did not say anything negative just completely re-focused to Clinton.
In contrast, Ellison gave a full throttle support of POTUS said that he was proud to have voted for Healthcare reform, financial reform and the Ledbetter Act…he asked who would NOT be proud to have voted for that.

About 8,000 people attended the Democratic National Committee’s “Moving America Forward’’ rally at Cleveland State University Wolstein Center, a hall that can seat 13,000. The rafters were largely empty.
Organizers noted the president was competing on a Sunday afternoon with church, football and Halloween. And Mr. Obama drew a huge crowd of about 35,000 when he was in nearby Columbus earlier this month. Still, the thin crowd was perhaps a foreboding sign in the waning days of the mid-term races, when Mr. Obama – who was joined Sunday by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. – considers getting Democrats to the polls his most important mission.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Gov. Charlie Crist is employing President Barack Obama’s famous “Yes, we can” campaign slogan as he heads toward the finish line in Florida’s three-way U.S. Senate race.
Crist is running as an independent since leaving the Republican Party in April. He trails Republican nominee Marco Rubio in the polls going into Tuesday’s election.
At an early morning stop Sunday at a senior citizens facility, Crist responded “Yes, we can” after former state Rep. Addie Greene said the election was not about Republicans or Democrats, but moving Obama’s agenda forward.
Crist also stopped at two black church services. He told congregants he is a “common sense, no nonsense,” social moderate and fiscal conservative.

As Election Day approaches, gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, all Democrats, are leading their Republican opponents, according to a Marist poll.
The polls were conducted by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion among likely voters, including those who have voted early and those who are undecided, but leaning toward a candidate . The data was collected last week. Election Day is Tuesday.
Cuomo, the state attorney general, has a 19 percentage-point lead over Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino. Cuomo received 56 percent, compared to Paladino’s 37 percent.
Cuomo leads Paladino among likely voters by a very wide margin in New York City, according to the poll. Cuomo has a double-digit lead in the suburbs of New York City, but the two candidates are closely matched upstate. Cuomo, however, leads Paladino by more than 2-to-1 among women. Among men, the race is close.
In the other poll, Schumer leads his Republican opponent, Jay Townsend, by 24 percentage points. Schumer received 60 percent to 36 percent for Townsend.
Schumer leads Townsend among likely voters by a big margin in New York City and has majority support over Townsend upstate and in the New York City suburbs.
In the race for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, the incumbent leads Republican opponent Joe DioGuardi by 15 percentage points. Gillibrand got 55 percent, compared to 40 percent for DioGuardi.
Nearly two-thirds of likely voters in New York City support Gillibrand, but she has a slim majority in the New York City suburbs and upstate.
Also, 41 percent of registered voters are very enthusiastic about voting Tuesday, according to the poll.

Coming to the defense of her preferred Senatorial candidate, Joe Miller, Palin aired some explosive accusations aimed at the fourth estate. Reporters, she said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, had been caught on tape trying to find a child molester in the crowd at a Miller rally — or, similarly, hoping to witness a bit of violence among the attendees — in hopes of making the Tea Party candidate look bad.
Just last night it was revealed that, at the rally I had for Joe Miller on Thursday, it was revealed and we have the tape that proves it, that the CBS reporters, the affiliate in Alaska, conspired to make up stories about Joe Miller. We have the tape, Chris. I can’t wait until it busts out all over the nation to show what it is that we, kind of what I put up with for two years now with the media, but what Joe Miller is faced with, in dealing with someone who feels, Lisa Murkowski, so entitled to seat that she and some of her people including some complicits in the media will do anything, they will stop at nothing.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele said on Sunday that Republicans would claim a successful election in November even if it resulted in them not taking control of the House of Representatives.
“First off we need 39,” Steele told CNN’s State of the Union. “If we get 39 seats and take the majority that’s success. If we get 37 seats that’s success. Keep in mind, I mean we’ve got to keep this thing in context here. We were a party out of power. We were a party that on the covers of magazines around this country were called an endangered species. We were going to be regionalized, marginalized to the lower, you know, portions of the political spectrum. We have battled our way back here, so to have the kind of night that we’re anticipating on Tuesday is not just a blessing but it comes from the hard work of our candidates out there engaging with the people.”
In a purely numerical sense, Steele is right. A switch of 37 seats, even in a mid-term election, would be historically vast. But the context is different this cycle. For starters, the 2010 elections will, for better or worse, be compared with the 1994 results, when there was a 54-seat swing in membership from Democrats to Republicans in the House. Secondly, the GOP has raised expectations for pickups well beyond 37. Talk has, for weeks, circled around the idea of 50, 60 or even 70 pickups. At one time, it was reported that 99 seats were in play.
No Michael steele. A success for the GOP is to become the extinct dinasaurs they are. The firebaggers are in control of that party. That’s the plan.

CHICAGO – Though he acknowledged that the fervor and excitement of 2008 has largely slipped away, President Obama barnstormed across three states Saturday as he sought to shore up his party’s midterm prospects by reigniting the energy that propelled him into office.
He kicked off the weekend campaign swing with a seven-minute get-out-the-vote pitch to volunteers in Philadelphia, and ended the day with a full stump speech here in his home town, where Democratic candidate Alexi Giannoulias is locked in a neck-and-neck race for Obama’s old Senate seat – a race that will help determine whether Democrats lose control of that chamber.
Obama opened up each event with a question that recalled his presidential campaign: “Are you fired up and ready to go?”
And he urged the crowd at Midway Plaisance Park in Chicago to defy the conventional wisdom. “In three days, you’ve got a chance to say what?” he asked his audience as he cupped his ear.
“Yes we can!” they cheered.
