Tonight’s NAACP Chairman and President’s Honorees are US Surgeon General Regina Benjamin and former Secretary of State & Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gerenral Colin L. Powell.

The NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.
Who was the guy that wore those white glasses and sang the gospel song in tribute to Dr. Regina Benjamin? It was very inspirational.

I just got to my tivo of the Image Awards. I absolutely LOVED the male acapella group with Mavis Staples singing America the Beautiful. It was wonderful, heartfelt, profoundly Black and profoundly American and just on spot. \
so happy for Regina King, Dr. Benjamin, Darnell Williams (who I have loved since I was a little girl watching him on All My Children); Vanessa Williams was on spot.

These awards are quite subdued, full of grace. I appreciate this. The gowns are beautiful, and the women wear them well, but we know that the INNER glow and spiritual essence is what makes these Black women shine.
And Hollywood may not appreciate their true gifts and the value within them, but we do. We love our Black women in all their hues, with all their complexities, grace, humor, intelligence and love.
