  2. President Obama was inspired to sing a bit of Al Green during a recent campaign stop at the Apollo Theater. And now you can have his rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” as a ringtone.

Yes, folks, the POTUS can sing too, but he did deliver a message to the crowd

  4. Let’s Stay Together

Little did we know the President could sing
Eloquent notes from the once gospel king
There is much we let slip but should we be
So blind we close our eyes that we might not see

    Since, since we been together
There were all kinds of bad weather
And in good or bad, happy or sad
You and I had a President, at 3 a.m glad

To answer the testing questions to take threats out
Oceanic pirates, obstructive filibusters and hush Osama’s clout
Got in President Obama a man who cares
Education, Health, Jobs, Energy all improved over his years
Today his sings, “I, I’m so in love with you”
He works for this country as if this were true
Elected when things were at their worst, a dead economy
Recession threatened but was averted; open your eyes, GOP

  6. Al Green – Al Green: ‘Barack Obama Nailed My Song’

Al Green has given Barack Obama his seal of approval after the U.S. President belted out a brief rendition of his soul classic Let’s Stay Together at a New York City fundraiser on Thursday (19Jan12).

Obama wowed guests with an impromptu performance at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem and video footage of the event has since gone viral.

After singing the track’s opening line, the politician told the crowd his aides had doubted he would burst into song at the gala, saying, “Those guys didn’t think I would do it! I told you I was gonna do it!”

Now music veteran Green has spoken of his pride after hearing the president crooning his tune, telling Tmz.com Obama was “terrific”.

He adds, “He nailed it. I was thrilled that the President even mentioned my name, and if the President can get the economy going again and get everything going that he wants to, then we’ll all be together.”

    What retreat looks like
    By Steve Benen

About a month ago, Mitt Romney was asked whether he’d release his tax returns. He said, “I doubt it,” adding, “I don’t intend to.”

Eight days later, Romney said he’d “consider” releasing his tax returns, but the disclosure would only come after he’s elected to the White House.

Earlier this week, Romney said he’s “not opposed” to disclosure, “if” there’s been a “tradition.” He added he’ll “keep that open” around “the April time period.”

Last night, Romney said he’ll “probably” release his tax returns. Asked about previous years, he said, “Maybe.”

And that led to a new position this morning on Fox News.

“I’ll release those on April 15.”

For those keeping score at home, that’s five different positions on disclosure in just four weeks.

Also note, when Romney addressed the subject this morning, he said he doesn’t want to “give the Democrats a nice little present of having multiple releases.”

I’m not sure why Republicans should find this reassuring: if Romney’s tax returns include “presents” for Democrats, why should GOP primary voters spend the next three months voting for him?

  11. President Obama Takes Apollo Crowd To Church With Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/president-obama-takes-apollo-crowd-to-church-with-al-greens-lets-stay-together/

While the Republican candidates for president duked it out in South Carolina at Thursday night’s debate, current President Barack Obama commanded the stage at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater, and in the spirit of the venue, briefly showed the crowd his Crooner-in-Chief skills with a soulful rendition of Rev. Al Green‘s “Let’s Stay Together” that was good enough, as the President noted, to avoid the Sandman’s hook.

Of course, he only sang a (perhaps SOPA-conscious?) eight-second snippet of Green’s classic quiet storm, so there wasn’t much time for the crowd to turn against him, but I think he definitely left them wanting more. Say what you will about the President, but singing “Let’s Stay Together” at the Apollo Theater, with Al Green in the room, takes more balls than a bowling alley.

It’ll be a three million dollar night in New York for President Obama as he makes a 5 and a half hour visit to the Big Apple to attend four fund-raising events for his re-election campaign.

Film Director Spike Lee is hosting one of the four events at his home. About 45 supporters will each pay $35,800 to attend. That amount includes the legal maximum of $2,500 for the Obama Campaign’s primary and general election drives and $30,800 for the Democratic National Committee, the most an individual can legally contribute to the national party.

The first two events of the evening are being staged at Daniel, a posh French Restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Its six-course tasting menu runs $175. But supporters of the president’s re-election will pay either $5,000 or $15,000 to attend one of the two events.
