Gretchen Frances Wilson (born June 26, 1973) is an American country music artist. She made her debut in 2004 with the Grammy Award-winning single “Redneck Woman,” a number-one hit on the Billboard country charts. The song served as the lead-off single of her debut album, Here for the Party. Wilson followed this album one year later with All Jacked Up, the title track of which became the highest-debuting single for a female country artist upon its 2005 release. A third album, One of the Boys, was released in 2007.
Overall, Wilson has charted 13 singles on the Billboard country charts, of which five have reached Top Ten: the Number One “Redneck Woman”, as well as “Here for the Party” (#3, 2004), “When I Think About Cheatin'” (#4, 2004), “Homewrecker” (#2, 2005), and “All Jacked Up” (#8, 2005). The album Here for the Party was certified 5× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for sales of five million copies, while All Jacked Up was certified platinum.

It Took Guts, Stupid

Maybe it’s because I’m a liberal; maybe it is because so much time has passed since the 9/11 attacks and I’ve calmed down, but I feel quite a bit uncomfortable spending too much time celebrating the death of Usama bin-Laden. I’m glad we found him. I’m glad we killed him. But I don’t want to dance in the end zone. I also don’t want to give the impression that I think the president’s greatest accomplishment is that he had someone killed.
Nonetheless, this garbage needs to be answered. The idiots who still work over at Breitbart’s operation are questioning whether the president deserves any credit for authorizing the mission that got bin-Laden, and their conclusion is that he not only deserves no credit but that he was looking to cover his ass if anything went wrong. Their evidence is the note that then CIA director Leon Panetta released to Time magazine:
Received phone call from Tom Donilon who stated that the President made a decision with regard to AC1 [Abbottabad Compound 1]. The decision is to proceed with the assault.
The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven’s hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out. Those instructions were conveyed to Admiral McRaven at approximately 10:45 am
On at least one critically important point, the president exercised operational control. After ignoring the advice of his defense secretary, vice president, and others, he ruled out a bombing mission and he ruled out doing nothing. He then ordered Admiral McRaven to do draw up a plan for a helicopter raid. When he reviewed that plan, he wasn’t satisfied with it. Here’s Military.com, a source the wingnuts might respect:
About 10 days before the raid, Obama was briefed on the plan. It included keeping two backup helicopters just outside Pakistani airspace in case something went wrong. But Obama felt that was risky. If the SEALs needed help, they couldn’t afford to wait for backup.
He said the operation needed a plan in case the SEALs had to fight their way out. So two Chinooks were sent into Pakistani airspace, loaded with backup teams, just in case. One of those Chinooks landed in the compound after the Black Hawk became inoperable. The raiders scrambled aboard the remaining Black Hawk and a Chinook, bin Laden’s body with them, and flew to the USS Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea. The ground operation had taken about 40 minutes.
Not only did the president insert the Chinooks into the operational plan, but that decision proved critical to the success of the mission. Unless you expect the president to serve as the operational commander of our Special Forces, something he isn’t trained to do, then I don’t know what more you can demand from him.
He made a decision to intrude on Pakistan’s sovereignty and to have commandos raid an armed compound in the middle of a city (Pakistan’s version of West Point, no less) in the middle of the night. There was a chance that bin-Laden wasn’t there. There was a chance that they’d kill innocent people. There was a chance that the commandos would be killed or captured. An international incident was assured regardless of the outcome of the raid. And Obama didn’t have the cover of unanimity among his advisers. His defense secretary, a Republican, was against it.
He considered all that, and then he ordered the mission anyway. And it went according to plan. And the one thing that went wrong (the helicopter crash) was only put right because of Obama’s intervention in the operational plan.
I ask you, in all honesty, what more could you possibly ask from a commander in chief than that he avenge the death of 3,000 innocent American victims by ordering a cross-border raid on uncertain intelligence, causing a row with one of our most uneasy allies, while making the operational tweak that led to success, and that it all turn out perfectly?

Romney advises broke, about-to-be-unemployed college students: “just borrow money from your parents!”

Back in 2008, I used to argue that Sarah Palin didn’t really exist — that she was actually an incredibly elaborate Tina Fey performance art project, an Andy-Kaufman style hoax. Because, seriously — Palin was so staggeringly vapid that it stretched credibility that she could be for real. It almost seemed more likely that she might be an over-the-top parody of a certain kind of blissfully idiotic, all-American wingnut, than that she was an actual person.
I often have similar thoughts about Mitt Romney. A surpassingly perfect villain for our times, he appears to come straight from central casting as the slick, shifty-eyed C.E.O. who’s fixing to downsize your ass — and implement his evil scheme for world domination while he’s at it. The G.O.P could not have run a more astonishing incarnation of the self-parodying cluelessness of the 1 percenters if they tried. For all practical purposes, it’s as if the the top-hat-and-tails-wearing Monopoly guy was their candidate.
Think I’m exaggerating? The latest reports from the campaign trail have the Mittster regaling an audience of economically anxious college students with advice on how to succeed in business: just be like his “friend” sandwich shop entrepreneur Jimmy John, and get your parents to bankroll the costs of a start-up! Hey, that sounds easy! Here’s Mittens:
This kind of divisiveness, this attack of success, is very different than what we’ve seen in our country’s history. We’ve always encouraged young people: Take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business.
Among other things, I love the way Romney frequently drops the names of his fellow plutocrat friends, in what appears to be a disastrously misconceived attempt to impress his audience with his (nonexistent) street cred. The man seems to lack the most rudimentary empathy gene — it’s that pathological. I eagerly wait the scene in the movie he rips off his human mask and reveals the terrifying cyborg alien that dwells underneath.

In the last campaign, Karl Rove decided that the way to beat Barack Obama was to turn him into some combination of Sportin’ Life and Billy Strayhorn. (That attempting to both black-bait and gay-bait the opposition was something that should gag the average maggot never has meant much to Rove, as he has spent a career making ill higher forms of life than himself.) Of Obama, Rove opined, “…even if you never met him, you know this guy. He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”

You know, Barack Obama is a “celebrity” who really isn’t interested in the hard work of governing — as was, apparently, the guy Rove put in the Oval Office. I don’t know how this ad is supposed to work. The people who think the president is a show-pony didn’t vote for him last time and won’t vote for him this time, and wouldn’t vote for him if he turned water into wine on national TV. The people who think Obama’s turn on Jimmy Fallon, and his Al Green karaoke, are marks of fundamental cool are unlikely to turn against him because of that. Young people are going to look at this ad and wonder why the old boring white guys are trying to harsh the national mellow. My answer is a long-game answer. At some level, Rove, and the plutocrats for whom he works, know that it’s better than 50-50 that the president will be re-elected. The goal in the campaign, therefore, will be to muddy him sufficiently that the already limited time a second-term president has when anybody’s paying attention to him will be relatively worthless. That, and some thinly disguised stroking of the base’s racist g-spots and you’ve got a two-fer that would appeal to a guy who’s only ever been interested in politics to work out whatever personal issues the tiny little man inside him has with the rest of the world.

Secret Service Colombia scandal prompts new rules
The US Secret Service has tightened staff guidelines in an attempt to stop any repeat of the Colombia sex scandal.
Agents travelling overseas will be banned from drinking on duty, visiting “disreputable establishments” and bringing foreigners into hotel rooms.
“Consider your conduct through the lens of the past several weeks,” Director Mark Sullivan reportedly told staff.
The agency will also hold ethics sessions for staff as it attempts to move on from the Cartagena episode.
Twelve Secret Service agents and several US military officers were implicated in a night of sex and drink in the Colombian port city ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit for a regional summit earlier this month.
All 12 agency staff have now either resigned or are facing disciplinary action.
The Secret Service has also said it is investigating a report that members of another advance team visited strip clubs and paid for prostitutes in El Salvador in 2011.
A spokesman said on Thursday that no “credible” evidence had been found to back up the report.

MSNBC Asks Obama Campaign To Take Down Ad Featuring Ed Schultz

MSNBC is calling on the Obama campaign to remove a polticial ad featuring its anchor Ed Schultz.
The ad focuses on Obama’s student loan policies. It shows Romney saying he supports an extension of the policies, and then cuts to a lengthy clip of Schultz, saying that Romney’s statement is at odds with previous policy positions.
NBC News released a statement on Thursday, saying, “MSNBC did not grant permission and we have asked the Obama campaign to remove the video of Ed.” The Washington Post talked to an MSNBC spokesperson on Friday. The spokesperson said that the campaign had not responded. Presumably, if it did, the Obama team would say that it was in compliance with fair use laws.
Bite me, MSNBC!

Trayvon Martin Case: Judge Rejects Bail Hike For George Zimmerman

A Florida judge refused to increase the bail for George Zimmerman, the town watch volunteer charged with murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, after prosecutors revealed he had raised about $200,000 from supporters.
“I’m not going to make a snap decision,” Florida Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. said during a hearing Friday in Sanford, where Martin, 17, was shot to death in late February. Lester said he needed more information about Zimmerman’s fundraising before he could reconsider increasing the bond, according to reports.
The judge is full of ish. A total disgrace!
