Hello, Everyone! Today’s featured mayor is none other than my mayor, Minneapolis Mayor Mr. R T Rybak. Happy Birthday, Mr. Mayor!
Wiki: Raymond Thomas “R. T.” Rybak, Jr. (born November 12, 1955) is the 46th and current Mayor of the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the 2001 election Rybak defeated incumbent Sharon Sayles Belton by a margin of 65% to 35%; the widest margin in city history for a challenge to an incumbent.[1] He took office in January 2002, and won a second term in November 2005 and a third in November 2009.
Before being elected mayor Rybak worked in journalism, business and activism. The first mayor of a large U.S. city to endorse Barack Obama‘s 2008 campaign for President, Rybak is one of five Vice Chairs of the Democratic National Committee.[2]

Christie Reverses Stand on Tax Increases After Storm
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/14/nyregion/chris-christie-reverses-stand-on-tax-hikes-after-storm.html?hp&_r=0
Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican who has pushed aggressively for cutting and capping taxes in New Jersey during his three years in office, said Tuesday that people who lived in towns destroyed by Hurricane Sandy were likely to pay higher taxes to help rebuild.
“It’s got to be paid for,” he said. “There’s no magic money tree.”
In a 40-minute news conference in Trenton, Mr. Christie said he expected the federal government to do as much as it had done for victims of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast to help rebuild New Jersey. And he said that municipalities would be allowed to raise property taxes more than the 2 percent limit that he signed into law in 2010 to cover costs brought on by the storm.
Breaking:Governor Rick Scott drops opposition to Obamacare

TALLAHASSEE (AP) –
Florida Gov. Rick Scott, one of the most vocal critics of the federal health care overhaul, is dropping his staunch opposition to the law.
Scott said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that he now wants to negotiate with the federal government. He said it’s time for Republicans to offer solutions to help families after they lost their bid to defeat President Barack Obama.
“The election is over and President Obama won,” Scott said. “I’m responsible for the families of Florida … If I can get to yes, I want to get to yes.”
Scott had previously stated that he would not go along with any parts of the health care overhaul that the state controls.
But his newfound willingness to have a “conversation” about putting it in place in Florida comes at a critical time.
States have until Friday to notify federal authorities whether they plan to set up health insurance exchanges, a marketplace where individuals and smalls businesses can shop for the most affordable coverage and where many will get help from the government to pay their premiums.
Florida so far has taken no steps to set up its own exchange.
I know that we keep on having fun with this ‘scandal’, but underneath, it’s no laughing matter.
if they weren’t kneedeep in the national security apparatus of this country, I wouldn’t care what these folks were doing.
but, they ARE kneedeep in the National Security Apparatus of this country…
and, they set themselves up to be kneedeep in BLACKMAIL.
I don’t think that’s a laughing matter.
And, I’m disgusted by those trying to portray either one of these dudes as ‘ ‘victims’ of ‘outdated’ morality.
this isn’t about MORALITY.
This is about two men, with their fingers on NATIONAL SECURITY, being wide and open for blackmail…..being wide and open to potentially betray this country…..
and, THAT is the bottom line that the MSM continued to dance around.

Mitt Romney Economic Adviser Calls For Raising Taxes On The Rich, Contradicting Entire GOP Campaign
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/mitt-romney-glenn-hubbard_n_2124160.html#comments
Mitt Romney’s former economic adviser Glenn Hubbard published an op-ed in the Financial Times Tuesday calling for higher tax rates on the wealthy and urging Republicans to outline specific spending cuts rather than vague across-the-board reductions in government spending. Hubbard’s comments are noteworthy because Romney resisted both policies during his run for the presidency.
“What should those negotiating the fiscal cliff do?” Hubbard wrote. “The first step is to raise average (not marginal) tax rates on upper-income taxpayers. Revenue increases should first come from these individuals. This means closing loopholes … Republicans cannot argue for low tax rates without being clear about where [spending] cuts must come from.”

Just Because He’s Black (author unknown):
A white man asked his black friend ” Are you going to vote for Barack Obama just because he’s black?” The black man responded by saying, “Why not? Hell in this country men are pulled over every day just because they are black; passed over for promotions just because they are black; considered to be criminals just because they are black. Thousands of white voters won’t be voting for him just because he is black! However you don’t seem to have a problem with any of that! This country was built with the sweat and tears of black slaves; and now a black man has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren’t even considered people, where we weren’t allowed to be educated, drink from the same fountains, eat in the same Restaurants, or even vote. So yes I am going to vote for him! But it’s not just because he’s black, but because through his leadership several of Americas most elusive enemies were brought to justice; our economy, health and environment improved; and our good reputation around the world has been restored. He is hope. He is change. He is wise. He is a man of integrity and intelligence. He is a man of faith and perseverance. A man of maturity and good judgment. He is a faithful husband and father. And he now allows me to understand when my grandchildren say they want to be President when they grow up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal. They now see, understand, and know that they can achieve, withstand, and do ANYTHING that they can dream for themselves.. So no, I am not voting for him because he is black… I’m voting for him because “I’M BLACK.”

The Bloc Vote Strikes Again
By Ed Kilgore
Think Progress’ Igor Volsky reports these lines from Paul Ryan about how and why he and Mitt lost:
In his first interview since losing the election, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) wouldn’t admit that voters rejected his economic vision and instead chalked up President Obama’s victory to a large turnout of the “urban vote.” “I don’t think we lost it on those budget issues, especially on Medicare, we clearly didn’t lose it on those issues,” Ryan to local station WISC-TV. “I think the surprise was some of the turnout, some of the turnout especially in urban areas, which gave President Obama the big margin to win this race.
Volsky goes on to contrast this “turnout” talk with Ryan’s pre-election assertions that the election was a big, bold choice between big, bold policy agendas.
But to an old cracker like me, the Dairy State Randian’s words had a very different connotation. Back in the 1960s, when southern African-Americans could (in some places, and to some degree) vote but segregationists were still in the saddle, any seggie setback was invariably blamed on “The Bloc Vote,” or “The Negro Bloc Vote” (a less inhibited term was, of course, used privately). The idea was that an election properly settled by white people talking about policy options was being hijacked by the hordes of Others who blindly voted for whoever their political bosses told them to vote for.
Now I am not, repeat not, accusing Paul Ryan of being a segregationist or a racist. But this habit of thinking of “the urban vote” as being a policy-indifferent mob that is simply turned out to neutralize the “big choices” being made by civic-minded folk, making the election results meaningless in terms of the direction of the country, certainly bears the pungent whisky-and-brimstone aroma of Old Dixie politics. Ryan would be well advised not to use this sort of terminology to support the no-mandate-election spin of his party.

Just Gets Better and Better
Josh Marshall November 13, 2012, 6:16 PM 1657
So in addition to the thing with the shirtless FBI agent, helping bring down Gen. Petraeus and now maybe Gen. Allen, Jill Kelley also has what appears to be a phony cancer charity.
But it gets better.
Kelley also seems to think she has something called “diplomatic inviolability” perhaps tied to her made-up role as “unofficial social liaison”?
Over the weekend she called 9/11 over the weekend to help chase people off her yard. And this is what she said, according to transcripts of the 9/11 call …
“You know, I don’t know if by any chance, because I’m an honorary consul general, so I have inviolability, so they should not be able to cross my property. I don’t know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved as well,” she told the 911 dispatcher, who agreed to pass the information along to police.

Romney Co-Chair: Voter ID Would Have Won Us Wisconsin
Ryan J. Reilly November 13, 2012, 6:25 PM 662
A state senator who served as co-chair of Mitt Romney’s Wisconsin campaign suggested this week that the Republican presidential nominee would have carried the state if a voter ID law had been in place.
Voter ID “absolutely” would have made a difference in the outcome of the election, state Sen. Alberta Darling (R) told Mike Gousha of WISN on Sunday. She suggested that voter fraud helped President Barack Obama win the state.
“We’re looking at all sorts of different precincts and all sorts of same-day registrations,” Darling said. “I know people will go, ‘We don’t have fraud and abuse in our elections.’ But why, why can’t we have voter ID when the majority of our people in Wisconsin wanted it, we passed it, the governor signed it? Why should one judge in Dane County be able to hold it up?”

Paul Ryan: No Obama Mandate Because Republicans Control House.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/paul-ryan-obama-mandate-house_n_2125635.html#comments
WASHINGTON — Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), in his first national interview since he and running mate Mitt Romney were defeated last week, said President Barack Obama didn’t win an election mandate to raise taxes.
“I don’t think so, because they also reelected the House Republicans,” Ryan told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl. “So whether people intended or not, we’ve got divided government. This is a very close election, and unfortunately divided government didn’t work very well the last two years. We’re gonna have to make sure it works in the next two years.”
Ryan sought elsewhere to qualify Obama’s win in interviews Monday as a result of turnout from “urban areas.”

What Could Be Causing This?

Overall, President Obama did very poorly with whites on election day, but looks can be deceiving. Over at The New Republic, Nate Cohn has started to crunch some county-level numbers and what he has discovered in pretty depressing. Outside of the South and Appalachia, Romney actually did worse with whites than George W. Bush. But within the South and Appalachia, things got ugly.
Do you have a theory on why John Kerry carried Knott County, Kentucky by 27 points and Barack Obama just lost it by 47 points? Counties in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas showed the same thing. Obama ran 14 points behind Kerry in West Virginia. Obama won in affluent, well-educated suburbs. He did very well in heavily white states like New Hampshire, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He significantly over-performed Gore and Kerry in white states like Vermont, North Dakota, and Montana.
But, for some reason, white voters in the South and Appalachia just can’t stand the president. They dislike him more than they disliked the previous Democratic champions.
Their votes count just the same as anyone else’s, but their hostility to the president created the illusion of a much closer presidential contest than actually existed. Obama didn’t really have a problem with whites in most of the battleground states.
But what should really frighten Republicans is that whomever follows Obama, they should be able to hold the winning coalition he built and add to it a bunch of folks who only voted against the president because of some peculiar and unidentified quirk of Southern and Appalachian people that may not be repeatable. In other words, Missouri may be blue for a white chick.

The bogus, baseless case against Susan Rice
By Steve Benen
Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:24 PM EST.
We talked earlier about potential changes in President Obama’s cabinet, and the multiple reports that he wants to nominate U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice to replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Republicans, for strikingly inane reasons, aren’t impressed.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has taken the lead in criticizing Rice, making vague accusations about her comments the week of the Benghazi attack. Today, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) joined him, characterizing Rice’s actions as “beyond belief.”
Actually, what’s beyond belief is this ridiculous smear campaign. Kevin Drum had a terrific piece on this.
The Republican freakout over Benghazi has been shameful, and their insane scapegoating of Rice’s appearances on the Sunday chat shows a week after the attacks has been doubly so. Republicans — aided and abetted at times by reports in the mainstream media — decided to pretend that Rice had blamed the Benghazi attack entirely on a YouTube video, which they took as dark evidence of a coverup designed to protect Obama. But the truth is that Rice flatly did nothing wrong, a point that bears repeating. She did nothing wrong. […]
Graham and the rest of the Republican caucus appear to still be in election season attack dog mode, and it’s time for this to stop. They have every right to investigate Benghazi, which might very well have been handled poorly in some respects and which might have been a case of poor anticipation of an attack that should have been expected. But Rice’s conduct was fine. She very carefully, and very professionally, passed along what was, at the time, the considered judgment of the intelligence community.

So glad you’re back!
I can not believe this scandal; I thought the facts were pretty much out and over and then BOOM here comes another general brought down by Ms. Kelley.
LOL.
What really gets me, the FBI agent that went to Cantor is clearly a wingnut. From TPM: (Quoting NYTimes)
Ms. Kelley, a volunteer with wounded veterans and military families, brought her complaint to a rank-and-file agent she knew from a previous encounter with the F.B.I. office, the official also said. That agent, who had previously pursued a friendship with Ms. Kelley and had earlier sent her shirtless photographs of himself, was “just a conduit” for the complaint, he said. He had no training in cybercrime, was not part of the cyber squad handling the case and was never assigned to the investigation.
But the agent, who was not identified, continued to “nose around” about the case, and eventually his superiors “told him to stay the hell away from it, and he was not invited to briefings,” the official said. The Wall Street Journal first reported on Monday night that the agent had been barred from the case.
Later, the agent became convinced — incorrectly, the official said — that the case had stalled. Because of his “worldview,” as the official put it, he suspected a politically motivated cover-up to protect President Obama. The agent alerted Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, who called the F.B.I. director, Robert S. Mueller III, on Oct. 31 to tell him of the agent’s concerns.
The official said the agent’s self-described “whistle-blowing” was “a little embarrassing” but had no effect on the investigation.
This seems to be a huge mess started by some high school shit and got blown open to the press because a wingnut convinced himself Petraeus was being given cover to protect Obama during the election; plus he was jealous of the general since he wanted Ms.Kelley too. When Cantor realized none of this could be blown back to Obama and was a huge can of worms that would engulf REPUBLICANS like Broadwall and Petraeus he kicked it back to the FBI which felt it had to let the WH know about all this business.
Now, some might try to tie this to Benghazi but it won’t work and with the scandal blowing up to engulf another general it takes the eye off of those hearings too.
I am LMAO, karma is undefeated.
I also love that the WH used this to get rid of Petraeus; the man was hosted on his own petard and you can’t tell me he wouldn’t have tried to stick a shiv in POTUS over these Benghazi hearings. (JMHO) The CIA looks bad in the information to date and he would have attempted to spin the problem back to Hillary at State and Panetta at the DOD; meanwhile he can’t do that now. He’s got bigger problems. The fact that everyone seems to be lawyering up lets me know there is more to this story. I was so wrong; this is gonna be something to watch. I don’t mind; I just hope it doesn’t distract from POTUS’ successes.
What did Ceilie say, SG2?
These fools obviously don’t understand the UNIVERSAL LAW called KARMA. It isn’t man-made law, it’s a spiritual law. Cause & Effect, Reaping & Sowing. Love seeing it in action, while they try to destroy our POTUS.
Petraeus sex scandal manages to get even stranger
By Steve Benen
Tue Nov 13, 2012 8:00 AM EST.
Honestly, if this were a script out of Hollywood, it would have been thrown out for being too ridiculous.
During his tenure as CIA director, David Petraeus is accused of having an affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell. Broadwell is accused of having sent menacing emails to Jill Kelley, who alerted the FBI to the alleged threats, which in turn led investigators to uncover information about Petraeus’ adultery.
And this morning, we’re learning about an alleged affair Kelley was having.
Allen is not only the ISAF commander; he was also poised to take over as head of U.S. forces in Europe and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. That confirmation process is now on hold.
Though the general denies wrongdoing, the investigation reportedly found up to 30,000 pages of communications between Allen and Kelley over the course of three years.
Wait, it gets worse. Much worse.

An FBI Agent Sent Shirtless Photos of Himself to Jill Kelley, and Other Ridiculous New Details About the Petraeus Investigation (UPDATE)
In a new, strange twist to the ongoing Petraeus scandal, it turns out the FBI agent who started the investigation sent topless photos of himself to Jill Kelley, Petraeus’s alleged other other woman. The agent in question was apparently a friend of Kelley’s and the person she turned turned to after she received the “threatening” emails from Paula Broadwell, Petraeus’s first mistress.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the agent then referred the case to a cyber crimes unit, which began an investigation. That wasn’t enough for the agent, who reportedly grew “obsessed” with the case—so much so that he sent shirtless photos of himself to Kelley. The agent was eventually banned from the case by his superiors. But that didn’t stop him. He soon notified a member of Congress, Washington representative David Reichert, because he feared the case would be ignored. The information was then relayed to FBI headquarters in Washington, DC.
So that’s one part of the craziness.
The WSJ reports that the emails, which the FBI quickly traced to several accounts owned by Broadwell, were sent to an account shared by Kelley and her husband. But what did the emails say?

The Eric Cantor Angle on Petraeus-Broadwell Affair
Here’s how House Majority Leader Eric Cantor became aware of the David Petraeus matter, according to a senior aide to Cantor.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, Cantor spoke by phone to an FBI employee who told him about an investigation, including the details about Petraeus’ affair, and said he was concerned that classified information had been compromised.
Cantor then asked his chief of staff, Steve Stombres, to inform FBI Director Robert Mueller. Because the federal government was closed Monday and Tuesday of that week because to Hurricane Sandy, Stombres did not connect with Mueller’s chief of staff until Wednesday, Oct. 31. Mueller took the information, but gave no indication whether there was an investigation, according to the aide.
The senior aide also said Cantor did not inform anyone else.
Indeed, House Speaker John Boehner did not find out about Cantor’s role in this until the story (of Cantor’s contact with the FBI) broke two days ago. Cantor believed the FBI agent was credible enough to pass on the information to Mueller, but, given that it was a single source whom he had never met, he did not believe there was a need to pass the information on to his fellow House leaders.
Cantor’s office won’t say to whom he spoke at the FBI, or even characterize what the person does at the Bureau.
As previously reported, the FBI employee first contacted Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., who then put the employee in touch with Cantor.

MY WIFE’S LOVER
My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me? NAME WITHHELD

Jesse Jackson Jr hires lawyer, possible plea deal, resignation: reports
Amid reports that he may have misused campaign funds, Illinois congressman Jesse Jackson Jr has hired a lawyer to handle negotiations with the federal government on possible plea deal in which he would resign from the House of Representatives and spend time in prison, media said.
CBS 2 television reported on Saturday and Fox News Chicago on Monday, citing an unnamed source, that Jackson hired Dan Webb, a former U.S. attorney in Chicago who represents defendants in high-profile corruption cases to represent the 47-year-old lawmaker.
Both reports said Jackson, who was easily re-elected to Congress on November 6, may have to resign his seat and serve time in prison under terms of the deal being negotiated.
Webb and a spokesman for Jackson did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
Last week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Jackson was under investigation for allegedly misusing campaign funds to decorate his home and to buy a $40,000 Rolex watch for a female friend. Reuters has not confirmed the report.

Exclusive: Lee Atwater’s Infamous 1981 Interview on the Southern Strategy
It has become, for liberals and leftists enraged by the way Republicans never suffer the consequences for turning electoral politics into a cesspool, a kind of smoking gun. The late, legendarily brutal campaign consultant Lee Atwater explains how Republicans can win the vote of racists without sounding racist themselves:
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites…. “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”
Now, the same indefatigable researcher who brought us Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” remarks, James Carter IV, has dug up the entire forty-two minute interview from which that quote derives. Here, The Nation publishes it in its entirety for the very first time.
Atwater’s Southern stragey worked out real well in 2008 & 2012, huh, GOP?

The latest sign comes from Florida, where Republican Gov. Rick Scott — a particularly outspoken critic of Obamacare — has indicated a new willingness to reconsider his stance against expanding Medicaid to the poorest residents of his state.
2014 is going to be a thing to behold. aka MORE SHELLACKIN of the GOP!

Walsh Weighs Bid for Illinois Governor or Senate
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/11/13/walsh_weighs_bid_for_illinois_governor_or_senate.html
Less than 12 hours after his concession speech to Tammy Duckworth (D), Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) told the Daily Herald he was not ruling out a future bid for governor or U.S. Senate.
Said Walsh: “You know that I believe fervently in that vision. I don’t know of many other candidates who articulate that vision. Am I going to do something? Oh gosh, I don’t know. People approach me every day and ask, ‘Walsh, are you going to run for the governor? Are you going to run for Senate?’ I want to do my part to lead a movement to present a vision to this. I’d rather go down fighting. Democrats have ruined this state but they’ve been able to do it because the Republicans have allowed them to.”
Joe’s just one of those CRABS in a hot steaming pot of water that just doesn’t want to stay down and die. His beady lil eyes, screeching, and clawing will be in vain. HE WILL DIE.
Wishful Thinking
The roots of Romney’s defeat reach much deeper into the Republican Party than many would like to admit.

Dick Morris: I Predicted Romney’s Landslide To Help Him Win
http://www.newshounds.us/dick_morris_i_predicted_romney_s_landslide_to_help_him_win_11132012
Dick Morris visited the Hannity show tonight to explain how he got it so wrong with his prediction of a “landslidey” Romney win. After blaming Hurricane Sandy and acknowledging that he got it “dead wrong” about the demographic turnout, Morris made a jaw-dropping admission. That his prediction was designed to help turn around Romney’s failing campaign.
Morris hinted at what was to come when he said early on, “I called it as I saw it from the polling and I did the best I could and I also worked very hard for Romney.” That right there is disturbing. Morris is billed by Fox News as a “political analyst” and is usually introduced on the air, as he is in this segment, as “former Clinton advisor.” And he did not disclose that he was working for Romney when he made his predictions, at least none that I saw.
But later, Morris openly admitted his prediction was an election ploy:
Sean, I hope people aren’t mad at me about it… I spoke about what I believed and I think that there was a period of time when the Romney campaign was falling apart, people were not optimistic, nobody thought there was a chance of victory and I felt that it was my duty at that point to go out and say what I said. And at the time that I said it, I believe I was right.
A spy tale with missing pieces

The one familiar aspect of the David Petraeus scandal is that he had an affair. Everything else about this story is weird.
Petraeus, who resigned Friday as director of the CIA, is brilliant, brave, dedicated and accomplished. But he is also vain. Even his most loyal and ardent supporters have to acknowledge the care with which he has always burnished his own image. He is used to being surrounded by acolytes — staff officers, journalists, hangers-on — whose fawning attentions can only foster a sense of superiority and entitlement.
